Chapter 3 BRADY PUB Eric sat down next to Nicole. ERIC: Nicole, we need to talk. NICOLE: What could you and I possibly have to say to one another, Eric? ERIC: I just wanted to tell you... NICOLE: Tell me what? That I'm lower than any creature that ever walked the earth? That i'm going to hell? That even though I didn't do anything, somehow you believe that I did the most unforgivable thing in the world? ERIC: No, I wasn't gonna say anything like that. NICOLE: Then what else do you have to say to me? What? Did I cause the DAYSaster? Did I sink Atlantis? Am I the reason that pandas are on the endangered species list? ERIC: No, that's not at all why I'm here... NICOLE: Then why are you here, Eric? ERIC: I came to a realization recently. NICOLE: Oh, really? And what realization is that? That I'm the daughter of Satan? ERIC: No, I realized that you... NICOLE: I don't have time for this. Nicole grabbed her purse. ERIC: Nicole, just let me finish, please. NICOLE: No. Why should I? You didn't let me finish when I was trying to tell you the truth. Do you have any idea how much everything you said hurt me? ERIC: Of course I do. Now that I know what I know, I do. And I feel horrible, Nicole, I feel really horrible about everything I said. I'm sorry! NICOLE: I don't think you do, though. I don't think you know just how awful what you said was, or how much it hurt me. I can't do this anymore, Eric. I can't see you anymore. I can't even look at you. Nicole stormed out. A few minutes later, a woman in her early 30s came up to Eric. WOMAN: Rough day, Brady? ERIC: More like rough half-year. Wait, how do you know my name? WOMAN: We met once. A long time ago. I'm not surprised you don't remember, it was like 15 years ago. You were just getting out of college and I was 16. ERIC: Your face does look familiar. Were you one of Sami's friends? WOMAN: No, Eric. I'm just someone you thought was worth caring about. Eric look confused. WOMAN: It's me, Madison. Told you I'd be back. NOTE: Just so everyone's clear, this is NOT Madison James. This is the Madison who was a teenage runaway that Eric helped in the late 1990s. She was played by country singer LeAnn Rimes. |

Chapter 4 BRADY PUB ERIC: Madison? Eric stood up, as did Madison. The two hugged. ERIC: Oh my goodness, you've grown! It's so good to see you! MADISON: It's good to see you, too. The two sat down. ERIC: How are you? MADISON: I'm great. How are you? ERIC: Well, things could be better. But, we'll talk about that later. What are you doing back in Salem? MADISON: I'm just passing through. I'm on a tour right now. And, since I was nearby, I thought I'd stop in Salem and say hi. ERIC: A tour? MADISON: Yeah. A few years after we met, I graduated high school. Then I joined a band, because I figured out that my main passion was music. But, then the band broke up, and Zi went solo. ERIC: Wow! That's awesome! MADISON: Thanks. So, about this problem you're having, what's going on? NICOLE'S APARTMENT Nicole opened the door and walked in to find Brady sitting on the bed. NICOLE: What the hell are you doing here? BRADY: I used the spare key under the mat. NICOLE: I could have you arrested for breaking and entering. BRADY: I didn't break anything. NICOLE: Then why are you here? Let me guess, you're here to tell me the happy news that you and Kristen are back together again, even after all of the horrible things she did to you. And that I should just lay down and accept it because you and I aren't friends anymore. BRADY: No, that's not why I'm here at all. I'm here because we need to talk. NICOLE: About what? There's nothing to talk about, Brady. BRADY: Yes, there is. And I'll start with: I'm sorry. |

You were completely right when you said she was no good for me. And... NICOLE: Okay, time's up. BRADY: But, I wasn't finished. NICOLE: Well, I am. I listened for a minute. That's all there is to it. BRADY: But... NICOLE: No buts. Now, get out. BRADY: Will you just let me finish? NICOLE: No. Why should I? You never let me finish. And Zi'm not just talking about with Kristen. There have been so many other times. BRADY: And I... NICOLE: You know what's funny, Brady? When I try to be a good person, when I try to help people, no one wants to hear a word. They just say, "stupid old Nicole, stop getting into our business. You have no idea what you're talking about". But then, when everything goes downhill, when they realize I was right, then they want to talk. BRADY: Nicole, please, I'm sorry for every time I've hurt you. Please, tell me how I can make it up to you. I just want us to be friends again. NICOLE: We can't be. We're not friends anymore, Brady. I'm not sure we ever really were. Now, please, get out. Slowly, Brady walked out. Nicole sat on the couch in her living room, staring into space. A flash of images going through her mind. Click here to listen to the music going through her head. A barrage of images. Her father hurting her, Colin Murphy, her days as a porn actress, E.J. throwing her out into the streets, losing her first baby, her failed marriage to Victor, her father trying to kill her, teaming up with Jan Spears, losing her second baby, Brady telling her to stay out of his life, Eric accusing her of rape. That was the final image. Nicole stood up and screamed. NICOLE: I don't need anyone!!! And that was that. She had cut all emotions out of the picture. The only thing she could feel now was numbness. ST LUKE'S Father Matt sat in the church office. A chill went down his back. MATT: He used to tell me about this. |
