This information is permanently bookmarked in the Fancreations section, Author's and Readers' Etiquette, but it bears repeating. I originally wrote the Author's Etiquette portion, but I was asked by some of our authors to add a reader's etiquette section. For those of you who read the fics here and comment on them, thank you, we truly appreciate the time you take to do so. For those of you who read and don't comment, please take a moment each update or every once in a while to let the author know that you're out there and appreciate the hard work they put into their creations. The fanfics are written exclusively for you and I speak from experience when I say they take a lot of time, focus and energy. Reader comments are a payment of sorts for the hard work that goes into creating these stories. Okay, stepping off the soap box now. ===== For AuthorsThank you for taking the time to write fan fiction for the entertainment of our members. Here are some keys to success. Before posting the first chapter of a story, please make sure you plan to see your story through to completion. Readers get invested in our fan fiction and, out of respect for their time, please finish your story. Post chapters on a consistent basis so readers know what to expect and when. Somewhere in your first chapter, please include a schedule, i.e.,: To be continued weekdays To be updated once a week To be updated daily, including weekends Please make the chapters manageable and not overly long for readers. Be respectful of your readers’ time. We look forward to reading your stories! Important: Please note that it is against Proboards policy to post any content that includes violence against children. ========== For ReadersThank you for taking the time to read the works of fiction posted at MyHourglass. The stories posted here are free of charge. If you are reading and enjoying a story, please make a point of logging in and commenting on the story. Our authors work very hard for the benefit of you, the reader. All we ask in return is a moment or two of your time to let the authors know that they are appreciated.

I like this:
As a writer I love hearing feedback and comments, they fuel me to write faster. It is always interesting to hear how someone interprets what I've written.
As a reader, and I am addicted to reading fanfic especially Buffy fics but that is OT, I like reading the comments of my fellow readers and engaging with them, almost feels like a book club to me.
I am terrible with those rules for writing though. I cannot stick to posting schedules at all. My muse is not that regimented.
But I have taken the suggestion to post shorter chapters - for now - lol...it is totally confusing for me on my end because I am dividing chapters up and I lose count blah, blah, blah and sometimes I think things flow better if read in its entirety. I know in the publishing world they recommend short chapters too...apparently people like to read a little before bed. This goes against everything inside of me because I'm the type that will only read a book if it is long and I don't care about squeezing something in before bed, if the story is good I will stay up and read.
Anyway...I will try to incorporate more of the suggestions. Thanks for posting this.
