What exactly is a nurse 'practitioner'? I thought a doctor is a practitioner?

^^ They are almost doctors. This is the definition from the American College of Nurse Practitioners.
Nurse practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses who are prepared, through advanced education and clinical training, to provide a wide range of preventive and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. NPs complete graduate-level education preparation that leads to a master’s degree. NPs take health histories and provide complete physical examinations; diagnose and treat many common acute and chronic problems; interpret laboratory results and X-rays; prescribe and manage medications and other therapies; provide health teaching and supportive counseling with an emphasis on prevention of illness and health maintenance; and refer patients to other health professionals as needed.

And then in a couple months she will be a full blown doctor.

Wow. That way above your average nurse. Thanks for posting that.
I agree MrsM. At some point she will be a doctor.

The thought of Melanie being an actual doctor is seriously a disservice to doctors. I mean, I get "accelerated" program, and I can buy her being a nurse through an online degree, but...
Well, would you trust her as a doctor? You never see her study, she has no maturity, and she's getting her degree from an accelerated program online? I wouldn't trust that doctor, and Salem U would have a big time lawsuit!

They don't seem to have a problem with doctors (ok, one doctor) groping patients, so why would they question finishing med-school in one year? Didn't you know? You can inherit your medical knowledge. Why do you think so many Hortons are doctors?!?

Decisions decisions.... which doctor would I trust my life to. Carly - who operates under the influence, Melanie = the clueless future doctor, Daniel - who would probably be checking out my boobs, or Lexie - who didn't keep a very good eye on Fay. My vote is for Maxine the nurse. I love her sense of humor!

If I were truly ill, I would only want Maxine near me. If I were just feeling kinda randy, bring on Dr. Feelgood.

Maxine cracked me Up in her scenes with Maggie. Maggie, I think, was quite shocked herself lmao

I really like Maxine and have since her very first scene, but lately she sure seems to be overstepping her bounds as a nurse......
