I don't do much with my hair at all. I don't color/highlight it either. I did want to get a spiral perm but refuse to pay the $100+ to get it done. The length and the thickness always jumped the price up for me. I have a friend who used to perm my hair for me but I felt that that was the only time I saw her so I quit asking her to do it. I felt guilty b/c our lives were just so busy and complicated at the time. I may ask her to do it again once my hair grows back out if I can find the perm kit that I like. That's been my other problem. I found one kit that worked GREAT for my hair but they quit carrying it in my area. I tried another one and it fried my hair and lightly burned my scalp even tho we followed the directions perfectly. I've been afraid to perm my hair since by any other kits. I'm also very lucky to have natural highlights that really stand out in the summer. The highlights are there all year long but my sun exposure helps them to stand out a little longer through the winter months. so usually I settle for a $13 simple haircut (which I think is to much for how little is actually done).
Yep - my hair is one thing I tighten the purse strings on......right now anyway.

I'm getting a haircut tomorrow. A few days ago, I called Great Clips to see if Arnie is working Saturday. He's the cutter who gave me the worst haircut of my life as well as the best. They told me he doesn't work there anymore, that he went to the salon across the street. So I called the salon across the street from Great Clips and asked price and such, and said I'd like to make an appointment with Arnie. The owner told me that he started working there a week ago, worked for two days and hasn't been seen since. He isn't answering or returning her calls. Uh oh.
Anyway, I made an appointment with a new cutter at this new place. Wish me luck!

Seems to me that the fancier the place, the more they charge and I really haven't noticed a difference in the actual hair-cutting/styling service I am given. I guess it's just to help them pay the salon rent or pay for the fancy accent lighting around their mirrors, tropical plants, etc. I wish they would start posting their diplomas of sorts, so I could actually see if there is a difference in the schools they graduated from LOL! As someone with thick hair and lots of it, I share Mrs. M's sentiment about being cautious who touches it. I have never gotten my hair coloured before in my life (thankfully the grey hairs have stayed away thus far and I am happy with my original colour). Once every 3-4 months for a trim works for me.

I had been having so many hairdressers since I moved here 11 years ago. As soon as I found one I like, poof they were gone. I kept asking people for recs..Finally I have had my haircut by the same person for the last almost a year now. She is the owner of a local shop so she isn't going anywhere, but I wish she was a little cheaper. It's $35 for a cut & style. I think maybe this time I will let it grow a little longer. Less time between cuts. I am coloring it myself though as the salon is super pricey for that.

Hairdressers seem to come and go a lot down here too sportsgirl. I think I got a good cut today. I'll know more when I style it myself. The price wasn't what they said. They quoted one price, but she used a flat iron on me and that was an extra charge. Well come on people. You know it's my first visit to the salon and you don't tell me BEFOREHAND? That's bad business in my opinion. It's not the money as much as the surprise extra charge.

She asked is I wanted it flat ironed and I said yes also not knowing the extra cost. I agree they need to tell you!!

Yeah, I thiink they should have said, since they failed to inform me about the added charge, this time we won't charge you for the flat iron service. That would have been good business. I've never been charged extra for flatiron or curling iron before. Every business is trying to figure out ways to charge more, like they charge you for every little thing in health care. Soon, they will ask if we want to sit or stand during the haircut, and using the chair will be extra.

I go to a lady who works out of her home. She had a shop but that was more cost than its worth. She charges $10. I give her 20. Before we moved here I paid $35 for a shampoo and style. She's better than any of those more expensive stylists! The way she cuts it makes it look less flat. She's also a barber so my husband goes too.
I have super fine hair and LOTS of it. I keep it shoulder length. It's mostly flat and limp. I go for cuts about every other month.
I don't color. My hair is light brown with red hints. I did highlights about 10 years ago when my color was fading and I started losing the red tones first. That was a failure.
I also tried doing perms in the eighties. What was I thinking?

I don't spend a lot of time or money on my hair. My hair is dark ash brown (virgin), straight to slightly wavy, and thick. It's shoulder length (all one length) right now. I spend about $30 for a wash, cut, and blow-dry. I think shoulder length is my most flattering length, but I get lazy and let it grow sometimes. I usually have my hair cut every 4 to 6 months. It grows fast. A few years ago, I left it alone and it grew from chin length to my waist in 1½ years. I never use heat or styling products. The only reason I have it dried at the salon is so we can make sure the ends are even. I wear my hair down or in a ponytail. I've never been very good at styling.
I played around a lot in my 20s: color (always in shades close to my natural color), layers, thick bangs, thin bangs, short hair, waves, curls, etc. When I hit 30, I decided I'd rather stick to a simple style that I know looks good on me.
I love trying new shampoos and conditioners, so I splurge on them. Redken is my favorite brand. I'm not a product snob; I'll use drug store as well as salon brands. I've learned not to use drug store brands regularly because they tend to leave my hair feeling waxy. But I like to switch each time I wash my hair (every third day), so it isn't much of a problem for me.
