Does anyone on here watch Hoarders? I was watching one episode tonight and it got so nasty that I couldn't watch it anymore. One lady lived with roaches, mice, rats, and a fridge full of old, molded food. I just wanted to throw up. Who would want to live like that?? And she was a secretary at a bank. YUCK is all I can say

My mom watches it. I watched one that took place in another part of my city. The people who live like that have pyschological issues. It's not simply a matter of wanting or not wanting to live like that.

I feel bad for people that live like that. I wonder what would make someone want to hoard all that stuff?

I've watched a few of these.. It really makes me feel like my house is clean.
I wonder though how sick a person must be to actually live like that. I've also seen some that have grown children & it upsets me that they can't get together to do something to help their parent. One I watched the children hasn't visited their Mom in 2 years and then were horrified by what they saw... I was screaming at the tv: maybe you should not have waited so long to visit your home!!! UGH

I have watched some of the shows and my mother-in-law is a borderline hoarder. She doesn't keep moldy food or anything like that but you can hardly get through her house. We have offered to help her clean it up and she has refused the help. You can't help somebody that doesn't want or accept the help.

UGH The one I saw last night there were young kids in the house and they thought that is how they supposed to live. It really is sad. I am glad my apt is clean, too!!!

Yeah the people on that show don't want help bc they don't think they have a problem. Alot of the people that hoard are masking that with the loss of loved ones or jobs.....it's really sad

One of my hubby's relatives is like that. He lost his dad as a kid so he wants to hang on to everything. And always feels like he just might have a use for this or that item someday.

I have a friend that is sort of like that. You can walk around & such, but stuff is everywhere. Nothing is thrown out. She still has baby clothes from her son who is now 40 years old packed in boxes in her basement. Her bathroom is never cleaned and all around the toilet is green gook! The dust on her tables is possibly 2 inches high. The minute you walk in there you are hit with a smell! Thank goodness she is in NJ and when I visit I never go there.

I suspect some people get so overwhelmed that they have no clue where to begin.

She at least knows what a pigsty she has. One time I had to go, & she would not let me use her bathroom. We had to go a diner down the road instead. I can't even imagine not letting a friend or relative use my bathroom if they had to go..

She may be depressed. House cleaning isn't a priority in that case.

I think depression could be a big factor, too. I don't see how people that live like that manage to stay well. On one I was watching last night, lady found $25000.00 that had been hidden under mountains of clothes, dust, mice and their poo, and god knows what else....so crazy.....
