Has anyone seen this movie yet? It's the first movie in a long time that I want to see.

It looks good. I just hope it isn't overdone. I wasn't a fan of Moulin Rouge so I worry that this movie will feel like that one.

I saw it. Honestly, it isn't all THAT different from the 70s version with Redford. I left the theater like this:

It definitely emphasized the extravagance of the parties. The soundtrack was okay, but with some of the songs it were odd choices. It was a lot of hip-hop and Jay-Z (he was an exec producer of the movie) and Beyonce so hearing some of their more radio-popular songs kinda stuck out like a sore thumb for me (took me out of the movie and plot).
From a literary standpoint, it needed to be emphasized or more clear that Daisy was not in love with Gatsby and that she was truly a vain, selfish, and shallow person. It needed to be clear to everyone including the audience, except Gatsby that Daisy didn't have deep feelings for him. We saw some of that, but not to the extent that Mia Farrow did in the Redford version. But Carrie Mulligan was good in the role. What I didn't like about it was more of a director/editor decision to not show that shallowness fully.
I'm not a fan of Tobey MacGuire and he was definitely awkward in this role (even more awkward than what Nick Carraway is supposed to be), but watching him play the drunk scene was hilarious! If only to make fun of Tobey Macguire...LOL!
The guy that played Tom and the lady that played Jordan were spot-on.
But go see it because Leonardo Dicaprio did an excellent job as Gatsby. I loved Redford as Gatsby, but Leo did a fantastic job. He is the main reason I cried at the end, even though I knew how it would end.
