THE HORTON HOUSE, THAT NIGHT

Daniel rings the doorbell and Jennifer lets him in.
Jennifer: Hi Daniel. Come on in. I have a surprise for you.
Daniel: For me? This should be interesting. Remind me to tell you about the surprise I got earlier today.
Jennifer leads Daniel into the living room where Bill is sitting in his mother’s favorite chair. He looks up as Daniel and Jennifer walk in, rises from the chair and takes off his eyeglasses.
Jennifer: Surprise! Daniel, I want you to meet my father.
Daniel and Bill stare at each other.
Bill: So this is the dinner guest you were telling me about?
Jennifer: Um. You know each other?
Bill: We met at the hospital.
Jennifer: Duh. Why didn’t I think of that?
Bill: Jennifer, I told you not to say “duh.” That’s very immature.
Jennifer: You’re right, Daddy. I must have picked it up from Abby.
Daniel: Um Jennifer, can I talk to you for a second?
Jennifer: Oh sure. Let’s go into the kitchen and you can help me set the dinner table.
They go into the kitchen.
Daniel: I thought it was just going to be the two of us.
Jennifer: It was. But my father surprised me and I couldn’t tell him to leave. What’s going on with you two?
Daniel: Oh nothing. Except I may have insulted him earlier today, called him an old geezer, and made a fool of myself.
Jennifer: You didn’t!
Daniel: Yup. I did.
Jennifer: Well you’re off to a fine start with your girlfriend’s father.
Daniel: Girlfriend?
Jennifer: Did I say that out loud? Jeez Jennifer. You’re a nincompoop.
Daniel smiles and kisses Jennifer. Bill walks into the kitchen and sees them kissing.

HORTON KITCHEN

Bill walks into the kitchen and sees Jennifer and Daniel kissing. He clears his throat to let them know he’s there.

Jennifer: Oh my gosh. Dad. Um.
Bill: I thought I smelled something burning, so I came to see what it was.
Jennifer: Oh my gosh, the meatloaf.
Bill: I had a few other names I wanted to call Daniel, but “meatloaf” works. By the way, you’re blushing.
Daniel: She blushes easily.
Bill: I meant you. Let’s eat.


AFTER DINNER, HORTON FRONT DOOR

Jennifer: Thanks for coming Daniel.
Daniel: Thanks for dinner. It was ... um ... great. I’ll ... see you ... tomorrow.
He leaves and Jennifer locks the front door as Bill starts going up the stairs toward the bedrooms.

Jennifer: Where do you think you’re going, Mister?
Bill: To bed. I’m tired.
Jennifer: Not so fast. What’s with the attitude?
Bill: I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Jennifer: You barely said two words at dinner. Do you know how uncomfortable this evening was because of you? How dare you be rude to my guest!
Bill: Guest? Looked to me like he was more than just a guest.
Jennifer: That’s right! He’s my ...
Bill: He’s your what?
Jennifer: Um. I’m not sure what we are just yet. You do know that he saved my life, don’t you? I don’t appreciate you treating him the way you did. What’s up with that?
Bill: Daniel Jonas may be a great doctor, but he’s also a pompous womanizing jackass. Speaking of “Jack Ass,” you’ve already had one. Are you looking for another?
Jennifer’s mouth falls open.
Jennifer: I ... I can’t even respond to that. But I will say this. Who are you to call Daniel a womanizer? I may not have been around at the time, but I have it on good authority that both of my brothers were the result of some ... extramarital activities.
Bill: You mind your tongue young lady. I’m your father and you will show me some respect.
Jennifer: If you want to get some respect, you have to give some respect! I’m going to bed.
She pushes past Bill on the staircase and runs upstairs to her bedroom.

LOL. Just loved the meatloaf comment form All In The Family. So great the way that Jen stood up to her Dad about the way he acted with Daniel. I don't blame Bill I would have done the same thing. Thanks for the chapter Kpatch.

Great story kpatch! Nice of Jenn to remind Bill that he's no angel. Too bad she's too blinded by Dan's pecs that she can't see what a jerk he is. They ARE nice pecs though....
