Chapter 3
“That one-night stand was the beginning of the end for me and Melanie. And it was the beginning of a second chance for me and Chloe ... but we didn’t know it then. See, after Parker was born, Chloe had some emotional problems, and I ended up with custody of the baby. I moved here from Salem alone ... gee, it’s almost two years ago now. And then ... then one day, there was a knock at the door. It was Chloe.”
“When she first got to Chicago, she hated me. She blamed me for keeping her and our son apart, and she wasn’t shy about letting me know how she felt,” Philip remembered.
Chloe: Just so you know, I’m only here for Parker. I’m not interested in any kind of relationship with you, not even friendship.
“It took a while, but we were able to work things out and become friends again.”
Philip: Here, I’m giving you one of my dog tags, and I’m keeping the other. Chloe: I don’t understand. Philip: This is our touchstone. A symbol of trust.
“Before long, I started to feel something for her, and friendship just wasn’t enough.”
Philip: Just because love hasn’t worked out for either of us up to now doesn’t mean it never will. Chloe: I’m not willing to take the chance. Philip: I’m not willing not to take the chance.
And just like every other time I’ve been around Chloe, I fell in love with her again. And as usual, she kept pushing me away.
Philip: Tell me what you’re afraid of. Chloe: I’m afraid of everything. I’m afraid of getting hurt. I’m afraid of hurting you, of hurting Parker. I’m afraid of my past coming back to haunt me. I’m afraid of giving my heart to someone only to have it broken again. I’m afraid of losing my best friend. Philip: You won’t lose me.
“Then finally ... finally she admitted her feelings for me.”
Chloe: Okay, okay. What I love about Philip Kiriakis, by Chloe Lane. ... I love your patience. I love your strength. I love your sense of humor, your wisdom, your sensitivity, your tenacity, the way you are with Parker. I love the way you look in a suit, I love your mind, your body, your soul, your scent, your depth, your romantic nature, the way you root for the home team, and the way you pretend not to cry at sad movies. You’re honest to a fault, you’d sacrifice everything for the people you love. I love the tears you get in your eyes when I tell you the reasons I love you. I love that I can sometimes still see the same sweet sensitive boy you were when I first met you. I love the way your arms feel around me, the way you kiss me. And I love the way you love me. How long a list did you want, because I can go on.
“She finally said what I waited half my life to hear. Did I tell you Chloe proposed to me?”
“No, I don’t think you did,” George said.
“Well she did,” Philip smiled as he remembered. “She got down on her knees and proposed.”
Chloe: Philip Kiriakis, you’re the most amazing man I’ve ever known. You made me believe in true love again. I love you with all my heart and I want to spend my whole life with you. Will you marry me, Philip?
“We were going to get married. My life was finally perfect,” Philip said as his smile disappeared and was replaced with anger. “That is, until Stephanie Johnson showed up at my door a month ago.”
To be continued ...

Are those "memories" from a previous story? They seem familiar somehow.

I can't believe that Philip is spilling his guts to a stranger. He is normally so reserved and private. This story takes place after After the Fall, Chasing the Moon, and A Question of Love. Hope that helps DD

I'd say the alcohol has made Philip shed any inhibitions at this point. Anyone willing to listen is his prescription. George seems like a friendly and nice guy.

Are those "memories" from a previous story? They seem familiar somehow. That is correct, DD. They are from the three stories that Mrs M mentions in the quote below. It was my way of reminding readers about the history if they read those previous stories, or if they didn't, it was my way of letting them know what happened with Chloe and Philip while they were off screen in Chicago (in my stories anyway). I can't believe that Philip is spilling his guts to a stranger. He is normally so reserved and private. This story takes place after After the Fall, Chasing the Moon, and A Question of Love. Hope that helps DD Thanks Mrs M. As for your question, as sportsgirl notes below, Philip's tongue has been loosened by alcohol, and also by loneliness. He's been a solitary man for the past month between Thanksgiving and Christmas (as you'll see when we get deeper into the story) and he's basically letting it all out. The fact that George is a stranger makes him easy to talk to. No preconceived notions or judgments. And while Philip is telling George what happened, he's also filling readers in on what happened when he learned Parker was Daniel's son, not his. I'd say the alcohol has made Philip shed any inhibitions at this point. Anyone willing to listen is his prescription. George seems like a friendly and nice guy. Thanks sportsgirl.

I really enjoyed Philip sharing his memories with George. It's very kind of George to listen to Philip on Christmas Eve.

Chapter 4
“Who’s Stephanie Johnson?” George asked.
“Old girlfriend,” Philip replied. “One-time fiance. Or was it two times? Hmmm. Maybe it was three.”
Philip noticed George glancing at his wrist watch. “I’m sorry. I’m keeping you. You should go. It’s Christmas eve and you should be with your family.”
“Um, yeah. I really should go,” George said hesitantly. “But ... finish your story first. I really need to know what happened. What happened when Stephanie showed up? Why did it change everything?”
“It was a Wednesday night, the day before Thanksgiving. We were trimming the Christmas tree.”
“So early?”
“Yeah,” Philip laughed. “Chloe wanted the tree up early. And what Chloe wants, Chloe gets.” Philip looked at George. “I could never say no to her, you know? Same as when we were teenagers. Besides, she was really excited about our first Christmas as a family and I loved seeing her happy like that. You know, we already wrapped about a dozen presents for Parker.” Philip got a far-away look in his eye. “They’re still there. They’re still under the tree ... waiting for him to open.”
George put a hand on Philip’s shoulder. “So Stephanie wrecked your Norman Rockwell moment.”
Philip nodded and flashed back to that day.
~Flashback to Philip and Chloe’s bedroom~
“You’re the only man I know who gets turned on trimming a Christmas tree,” Chloe said as Philip trapped her under his body and undressed her.
“I doubt that. Besides, I didn’t get turned on by the tree, baby,” Philip said, low and slow, between kisses. “I got turned on by you. Oh man, the way your curves looked every time you reached up to hang an ornament. Mmmm.”
Chloe laughed and tried to keep things from getting hot and heavy. “Philip, we don’t have time for this.”
“I don’t need a lot of time,” he whispered.
“But I have a million things to do.”
He nuzzled her neck, and in his sexiest voice, he said, “Add me to your to-do list and make it a million and one.”
“Oh my,” Chloe said, getting caught up in the physical contact. “ The way you said that ... was so sexy. Say it again,” Chloe said breathing harder. “Oooh, and while you’re at it, do that again.”
“This?” Philip captured Chloe’s lips, kissing her deeply while he fondled her breast and rolled her nipple between his fingers. “My pleasure.”
She arched her back and locked her legs around Philip’s body, clamping him tighter into hers, while her fingernails raked the skin on his back. She bit his shoulder as their bodies grinded together in rhythmic repetition, up and down, again and again and again until climax.
Philip stayed on top of Chloe for several minutes, as they both caught their breath, and their heart rates returned to normal.
The afterglow was cut short when the doorbell rang.
“Who could that be?” Philip wondered out loud.
To be continued on Tuesday...
