SOD At the safe house, Sami comes face to face with her husband, but doesn't know it yet.
"She thinks he's the one who broke her heart and who she just found out cheated on her," points out Alison Sweeney. "So when he walks in the front door, she's like, 'Get away from me. I can't stand the sight of you.' He attempts to convince her that he has no idea what she's talking about. He's like, 'Who are you?' That's where it starts. It's a great payoff; it's a great moment."
Sami goes to leave, but Rafe stops her. When he touches her arm, it's an electric moment. "It's classic soap," smiles Sweeney. "In that touch between them, she realizes that there is something different about him and he is in some ways his old self again. And part of her wants to believe it. She says, 'I would love to trust you, but I can't. I can't have my heart broken by you again, so I"m outta here.' She goes to leave and she opens the door and there's another Rafe standing there, and she's looking back and forth between these two identical men."
Sami is understandably confused. "She's stunned, in shock, appalled. There are a million emotions that go on in that moment," says Sweeney. "It takes a second and then Rafe II does some smooth talking of, 'Hey, baby. I'm trying to protect you from this guy,' and he concocts this whole story, sizing up the situation and realizing what Sami must think. That's where Sami realizes the DiMeras are involved. They build the tension of ultimately, who will Sami believe?"
Continues Galen Gering, "Rafe II has a pretty convincing argument about why he's the real Rafe and how the real Rafe is not the real Rafe. And you kind of almost believe she's believing the wrong guy, which I think is great, storytelling-wise."
A fight ensue between Rafe and a gun-toting Rafe II. Sami is knocked out during it and when she comes to, she grabs the gun and holds it on both of them. "The choice I made in the way I interpretted the script is that Sami knew the instant that guy came in and started telling them the story of Rafe being an impostor," explains Sweeney. "It clicked for her that he's the bad guy and that what's been happeningto her for the past five months. In that moment, there is no doubt in her mind who is the real Rafe. She pulls the trigger." RafeII is shot, but it's a flesh wound.
Once Sami and Rafe tie up the double, they now have to deal with their own situation and the fact that he has amnesia. "She's heart-broken," sighs the actress. "It's like losing him all over again. He's there and he's Rafe and now it just makes so much sense to her what the DiMeras did and it answers every question she has of why he was behaving that way. It validates all these horrible things she was feeling, and before she gets to the revenge of why they did it or any of that side of things, it's just such a relief to know she's not crazy. Her instincts were right. Those feelings of being disgusted by him and not wanting him to touch her, all of it makes sense now. And here he is, the real him, standing in front of her, and it's such a high and a wonderful feeling and such a relief and joy, and then for him not to remember her and have those same feelings is crushing. She loves him so much and it's overflowing and she can't let him see it; she has to tread so lightly."
Sweeney is thrilled to finally get to play the fallout of this months-long tale. "They were some of the best, most fun scenes I've played on the show," she declares. "They are so emotionally loaded with this unbelievable situation she's found herself in. He doesn't remember loving her or knowing her and she feels every time she tries to step in or remind him of something, he kind of steps away from her. She is manufacturing all of this optimism like, "It's going to work out,' but it doesn't seem to be playing out the way she thought it would."
By week's end, though, Rafe reveals that he's starting to remember. "That's everything she's ever wanted," smiles Sweeney.
SOW
During a showdown at the safe house this week, an armed Sami is forced to choose between Rafe and his impostor!
"Rafe is confused," explains Galen Gering. "He doesn't know what Sami's talking about, or who she is."
Rafe tells an angry Sami that the only thing he remembers is being locked up and escaping; everything before that is blank. Sami looses patience and turns to leave. "Rafe grabs Sami by the arm and tries to stop her," shares Gering. But Sami opens the door and finds herself standing face-to-face with the impostor Rafe. "She doesn't know what to make of it," notes Gering.
Rafe 2 accuses the real Rafe of being a fake sent by the DiMeras to take over his life. The impostor pulls out a gun, ready to shoot Rafe, when Sami protests that it isn't necessary. A fight ensues between the two Rafes and Sami ultimately gets possession of the gun. Both men swear to be the real Rafe and walk toward her. "Sami fires the gun and shoots the impostor," recounts Gering. However, Rafe 2 isn't seriously injured, and tries to take the gun from Sami. "Rafe knocks him out," shares Gering.
Rafe and Sami quickly tie up the impostor. "Rafe wonders how Sami knew he was her husband," says Gering. Sami responds that it was intuitive, and then realizes there may be a way to help Rafe get his memory back. She tenderly kisses him.
Will Sami's lip-lock be the key to restoring Rafe's memory?

I have to say that as much as I don't even like Rafe, I cannot wait for him and Sami to find their way back together. I find myself itching for these scenes and am looking very forward to them. I hope it is as good of a moment as I am hoping it will be.

My first thought when reading this is..."Sami shoots yet another guy and STILL doesn't manage to kill him?!" Salem seriously needs a shooting range. But I am so ready for this storyline to be over with.

When Worlds Collide: The 2 Rafes come face to face! Is it the end of the world, or just the end of a bad storyline? Tune in next week. I swear they did this on Lost in Space in the 60s. Rafe and anti-matter Rafe. My first thought when reading this is..."Sami shoots yet another guy and STILL doesn't manage to kill him?!" Salem seriously needs a shooting range. But I am so ready for this storyline to be over with. You beat me to it... yep, Sami is a lousy shot! I too am looking forward to this story ending and for Sami to get her man back! I had that thought too. You would seriously think that Daddy and Uncle Bo would give Sami some target practice lessons.

You would think that coming from the Brady family (with all the law enforcement background), that Sami would be a much better shot. Seriously. The last time she shot dead on was when she shot Alan in the jewels.

Maybe Sami can get one of those Navy SEALS to teach her how to shoot properly! ;D

Kpatch, with that 'anti matter Rafe' comment, I just literally fell out of my chair laughing. My bruised hip is mad at you, but the rest of me thanks you for that laugh.

"Anti-matter Rafe" also had me rolling on the floor. The kids in my class looked back at me like I was crazy. I just smiled and waved.
Even though I wasn't a fan of Rafe1 before (he was about as exciting as a Sominex), I LOVE Galen now. I'm hoping that the range he was able to gain by playing Rafe2 rubs off on his interpretation of Rafe1. I'm really hoping that as he regains his memory, Rafe1 is able to express more than the two things he always showed in the past: (1) I love you Sami. (2) I'm such a stand up guy.
But, when they all return to Salem (and we know they will), what are we going to call Rafe1 as he pretends to be Rafe2? Rafe1.5?

The new and improved Rafe 1.5! I love the idea lol I think Rafe is a Snoozefest. Rafe 2, while being very creepy, is An absolute hoot! I really hope Galen can manage to put the two characters together! That would make it Much more interesting to see Rafe!
