Welcome back Dancers!!! Our new season has begun!! And this season, Tristan has a real shot – YIPPEE!!!!! Ok, let's see what we've got....
Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough (CHA CHA) - For the first number of the season, that was pretty hot!! Kellie surprised me. She has good natural movement and I can already tell she's going to shine in this competition. Once again, Derek has a contender on his hands. She locked her knees a little too much, but on the whole, she was really, really, good. MY SCORE: 8 JUDGES SCORE: 7, 7, 7 = 21
Victor Ortiz and Lindsay Arnold (FOXTROT) - So, he's a boxer and she's a recent contestant on So You Think You Can Dance. I see the music producers STILL have not figured out exactly what kind of music goes with Foxtrot. Argh. And Lindsay, apparently, attended the Cheryl Burke School of Backleading. Geez, that was terrible. I give him props for trying, but that just wasn't very good. Thumbs down for me. MY SCORE: 5 JUDGES SCORE: 6, 6, 6 = 18
Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson (CONTEMPORARY) - Boy, he sure is pretty. Yowza. I will enjoy seeing him half naked this season. I will enjoy that very much. I'm not sure, however, that I'm going to enjoy this new addition of Contemporary. That style REALLY exposes these stars' lack of training and, some times, makes it hard to watch. I actually cringe when I see toes not pointed. But, that's just me. As for this routine, it was....interesting. A lot of lifts, but not much real dancing. The small bits of movement were awkward for him (as I'd expected) but I didn't hate it. Just sort of ok with it. Blah, really. Kym looked pretty though, so there's that. MY SCORE: 6 JUDGES SCORE: 7, 6, 7 = 20
Lisa Vanderpump (and dog) and Gleb Savchenko (FOXTROT) - OK. I'm gonna be blunt here. I DETEST women that carry dogs around like they are their children/accessories. It's a dog, woman. Get a grip. Having said that, Gleb sure does have a lovely chest. Yummy! As for the Foxtrot, thankfully we got an actual Foxtrot song and the dancing was....well....what you'd expect from someone with little discernible talent and no real obvious grace. Sorry Lisa. Your time here is going to be rather short. MY SCORE: 4 JUDGES SCORE: 6, 6, 6 = 18
DL Hugley and Cheryl Burke (CHA CHA) - DL is not making me a fan of his. By him saying that it isn't manly to be wearing tights and cuban heels (the shoes Latin dancers wear) I am instantly turned off. He doesn't realize that he's insulted, not only EVERY MALE DANCER ON THE SHOW, but (more importantly to me) my husband. Soheck off DL. You are on my poop list. OH!!!! And then to top it all off, he's a T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E dancer. I mean, really, really bad. MY SCORE: 3 JUDGES SCORE: 4, 4, 4 = 12
Zendaya amd Val Chmerkovskiy (CONTEMPORARY) - Here's our requisite Disney kid. And, yes, she's a child. She's only 16. So obviously no show-mance with Val this season. The dance was ok. She's obviously had previous dance training (she IS a Disney kid, after all) so I'm not surprised that she's graceful, or at least appears to be, and can move pretty well. I don't think she's a finalist, but she's not terrible. So far, I dislike her personality more than I like her dancing, so we'll see what's in store for her. MY SCORE: 7 JUDGES SCORE: 8, 8, 8 = 24
Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd (FOXTROT) - The Bachelor. *insert eye roll* I really wanted to hate this dance. I mean REALLY. But, surprisingly, I didn't. Sean's footwork was actually really good and, even though he clearly wasn't leading, he was still in it. He wasn't being dragged around by Peta. His solo work was decent and I didn't hate it. Didn't love it, but didn't hate it either. So, kudos Bachelor man. MY SCORE: 7 JUDGES SCORE: 7, 6, 6 = 19
Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas (CHA CHA) - Ugh. Mark Ballas. *insert another eye roll* Seriously, that dude needs to stop. It's gonna be hard for me to like this pair, no matter how good Aly is because I have a serious dislike for Mark. But this is about their dancing which was OK. She wasn't awful but she wasn't amazing. I'm ambivalent. MY SCORE: 6 JUDGES SCORE: 7, 7, 7 = 21
Dorothy Hamill and Tristan MacManus (CONTEMPORARY) - Ahh, Tristan. We've missed you so much. Please, don't ever leave us again. You are just so, so pretty. We love you. As for the dance, it was... a little strange, if I'm being honest, and not my favorite of the night. I've decided I do NOT like Contemporary in the first week. They should have saved that till at least week 8 or something. It's too out there for week 1. But Dorothy was graceful, as expected, and Tristan was there for her in every sense, so I guess I didn't hate it. Don't know why he had to wear those gloves, and long sleeves, and really that shirt at all. Seriously dude. Lose it. Let me run my fingers through that glorious chest hair. Please? MY SCORE: 7 JUDGES SCORE: 7, 7, 7 = 21
Wynonna Judd and Tony Dovolani (CHA CHA) - Are they supposed to be dancing in a church? Um, ok. Poor Wynonna. She's so far out of her comfort zone, she can barely move. She's almost, seemingly, frozen with fright. Bless her heart. I think that's the hardest part for some of these celebs. You HAVE to let go and commit fully and be ready to make a “butt” out of yourself. If you hold back, it looks 10 times worse. Wynonna was terrified and it showed. She's gonna have to loosen up if she wants to stick around. MY SCORE: 6 JUDGES SCORE: 6, 6, 6 = 18
Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess (FOXTROT) - Might we have our season 16 sacrificial lamb? HEAVENS NO!!!! Andy was GREAT!!! I am totally shocked. Maybe my expectations for him were so low that if he didn't fall down, I'd be cheering, but seriously, he was actually pretty good. I am so surprised and pleased for him. He had lovely musicality and was really feeling it. At times he was walking a little too much and not exactly “dancing” but it worked for me. I'm proud of him. MY SCORE: 7 JUDGES SCORE: 6, 5, 6 = 17
Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff (CHA CHA) - Nothing special about this routine to me. Typical football player moves with typical Karina frantic backlead. Granted, he only used one week to prepare, so it looks like what you get when you only practice for a week. *Shrug* Whatever. MY SCORE: 5 JUDGES SCORE: 7, 6, 7 = 17
My Leaderboard
Kellie 8 Zendaya 7 Sean 7 Dorothy 7 Andy 7 Ingo 6 Wynonna 6 Victor 5 Jacoby 5 Lisa 4 DL 3
Judges Leaderboard
Zendaya 24 Kellie 21 Dorothy 21 Ingo 20 Sean 19 Wynonna 18 Victor 18 Lisa 18 Andy 17 Jacoby 17 DL 12
We still have next week to go before they start sending people home, but I think it's pretty clear that DL is not long for this season. Adios, dude.
But what are your thoughts? Who did you like? Who did you hate? Who surprised you?
