Jason47.com is paying tribute to Macdonald Carey's 100th birthday during the month of March. Right now there are 3 great clips of Tom Horton -- Thanksgiving prayer, Tom & Alice's 50th anniversary and Tom tap dancing. Great stuff from the early years.

I always used to FF him and Alice. My mom remembers him from stuff he did before Days and always used to comment when she heard his voice "announce" Days coming on.
Did he ever actually have any real storylines on the show or was he always like the grandpa?

I will always remember the story line about Norm dePlume.. He was like a beat poet and he wore a disguise so Alice wouldn't know what he was doing.

Oh SG that was my favorite storyline also!! Loved, loved, loved it! I also liked when he read the story to the children at the hospital during Christmas!

I loved Dr. Tom. I cried when I was watching the news and they reported his death. Thanks for the info. He was in a lot of movies before he was on Days.

Did he ever actually have any real storylines on the show or was he always like the grandpa? No, not just grandpa. He was a father too (to Tommy, Mickey, Bill, Addy, and Marie) and got involved in his children's messes. Plus he had storylines of his own or with Alice, so no, he wasn't just a background character in the early years.

I am guessing he was involved in a lot of stories at the hospital as well.

I don't even know who any of those kids are that you named except for Mickey and Addy I only know of because of the Daniel/Chelsea storyline.

Still means nothing to me. LOL These people weren't on the show while I was watching...or they were FF'd. I do remember Tom though, a little, he was old and I'd breeze right through when he was on my screen.
