Week 5 – Guilty Pleasures Night This is Dancing with the STARS!!! Tonight the couples are dancing to music that you probably never wanted to hear ever again. To demonstrate what kind of songs you might hear tonight, here’s the opening number. Opening number: Excuse me while my ears bleed. It’s Hanson and that god-awful song from the 90’s “Mmm Bop.” Someone make it stop. This might be a long night. (I will not post this video, but if you’re dying to see it, I’m sure someone has it on youtube.) Kirstie/Maks – (Samba) “Hit Me Baby One More Time”: Oh no. Maks shaved! This makes me very unhappy. But, cest la vie. Their dance was….nice. No mishaps. But nothing spectacular. She still looks nervous and she’s obviously thinking too much. But tonight was good. My Score: 8 Judges Score: 26 (8, 9, 9)Chris/Cheryl – (Tango) “Don’t Stop Believing”: Huh? Journey = Tango?? Yeah, not so much. Poor guy. One of these days she’ll teach him to lead. Maybe. I can say that his frame was very good. He kept his shoulders down and his elbows level, so for that, it was good. Alas, the band did not help them at all. The arrangement was truly a travesty. To make it a true tango, they could have played with it, but it sounded the same as on the radio, which is NOT a tango. Argh. My Score: 7 Judges Score: 22 (7, 8, 7) Go to 2:00 for dance. Romeo/Chelsie – (Waltz) “My Heart Will Go On”: Talk about ears bleeding….oy vey. But back to the dancing. Even though the song makes my brain hurt, it was pretty good. I thought he did a really good job. There were a bunch of times Chelsie was leading, but Romeo was able to hide some of it and he clearly knew where he was supposed to be and when he was supposed to be there. She wasn’t dragging him around the floor like Cheryl likes to do with Chris, but he wasn’t exactly holding the reins the whole time. Still, it was quite good. My Score: 9 Judges Score: 28 (10, 9, 9)Whoa!!! The first 10 of the season! Of course it was from Carrie Ann. When it comes from Len, I’ll agree with it. Maybe.Go to 1:44 for dance. Chelsea/Mark – (Quickstep) “Walking on Sunshine”: They played it straight this week. Nothing too outrageous and a very nice quickstep. She seemed to forget/get off balance a couple of times, but I think those minor moments are the only thing stopping her from getting 10s. My Score: 9 Judges Score: 28 (10, 9, 9)Kendra/Louis – (Samba) “La Vida Loca”: Louis wanted her to shake everything God gave her, but Kendra pointed out that God didn’t give her her boobs. But she shimmied all over that floor. She even got on the judges table and shook it all. Bruno felt compelled to shake a dollar bill at her. I didn’t care for that, but I hope it was all in good fun. My Score: 9 Judges Score: 25 (8, 8, 9)Hines/Kym – (Viennese Waltz) “End of the Road”: Man, I love this song! And THAT is how a man is supposed to dance!!! That was fantastic!!!! Everything about it was awesome. Everything. My Score: 10 Judges Score: 27 (9, 9, 9)Carrie Ann is officially an idiot. She took off a point because he was THINKING too much. So stupid.Go to 2:02 for the dance. Sorry for the crappy quality. It was the only one I could find. Ralph/Karina – (Paso Doble) “Everybody Dance Now”: He looked more Sgt. Pepper than Karate Kid, so that was kinda strange. And then Karina slipped and fell. Ralph, ever the gentleman, pulled her up and they struggled to get back on beat, and it seemed to take forever, even if it was only 2 eight counts. But in the end, it was still pretty good. I give him major props for continuing. Especially since HE didn’t fall. She did. I liked it though. My Score: 9 Judges Score: 24 (8, 8, 8)After watching it again this morning, I'm amazed at what I saw. HE WAS TRYING TO LEAD!!! AND SHE STOPPED HIM!!!!! If you notice when she gets up, he tries to grab her and go in one direction (pressumably with what was next) and she stops him!!! Jeez, Karina! Let the guy lead!!! I actually got to watch most of it tonight and the one I enjoyed most was Kendra. It was fun and upbeat and I found myself smiling. I was sad that Maks shaved too. (See the random thoughts thread, lol) I thought Kirstie's footwork was all over the place and not quite right. Same with Chelsea Kane. I kept watching her feet, not the rest of her. She seemed like she only picked up her feet when the moved around the dance floor and just flexed her knees. It was kind of strange. I missed Hines and Romeo so I will have to catch those. Poor Ralph. Between the wardrobe trip and the song choice it was just a strange dance. Karina really lost herself and that isn't the sign of a true professional.

Where is the Kristie from Week 1? She is missing that fire. She's holding up well (and who wouldn't be with Maks as eyecandy, I mean partner), but she's lacking that spunk. Agreed about Chris/Cheryl's song choice being way off base and it just looks like she dances around and he poses. Romeo/Chelsie's dance I thought was pretty good. I enjoyed it as a love story. Chelsea/Mark I thought was upbeat and very cute, slightly hectic but cute. Kendra's dance...wow...she can shimmy at least. And of course she had the crass comment about God not giving her the boobs. And she wonders why Carrie Ann thinks she's afraid of 'elegance' *sarcasm*. But, overall I did enjoy the dance, she looked like she was having fun and of course the judges had an eyeful. I love how Carrie Ann couldn't stop laughing long enough to give her comments. Hines/Kym--I'm a sucker for Boyz II Men anyway, but paired with Hines Ward...wowzers! Really, really good. Ralph/Karina--DD, Karina did say she did get 'turned around' after the fall, so perhaps that's what happened when she stopped Ralph. But I do agree it seemed to take forever for them to get back on beat (once the broke hold and did the side by side stuff they were fine). I still see no reason why he had to have the long coat thing anyway. He used it one time I think but really it just looked weird.

That sucks cause I like Chris Jericho. I am a closet wrestling fan but haven't watched in about 5 years. I was so surprised to see this side of him dancing. He seems like a rely Nice, kind person. He smiles a lot too.

I think it's getting to the part where you hate to see anyone go home. I think after Kendra leaves next week (which I'm pretty sure she will) it will get REALLY hard. Sadly, I don't think Ralph is going to make it as far as I'd originally hoped. My bet is it comes down to Hines, Romeo, and perhaps Chelsea. That third spot is tricky though. Folks love Kirstie (and more folks love Maks), and we all just want to hug Ralph, so I just can't tell how this will all end up. We shall see!
