Chapter 1 SALEM INN Mia sat on the edge of a bed, holding a bowl of soup in her hands, slowly sipping it. She hadn't felt well all day, and knew it was because of last night. However, it was now early evening, and she was starting to feel better. Nicole walked in. NICOLE: Feeling any better? Mia nodded. MIA: The Gatorade helped. And so is the soup. I'm actually holding it down and my stomach doesn't hurt anymore. NICOLE: Still have a headache? MIA: It's there but it's not as bad. NICOLE: Well, it'll be gone tomorrow. And then, we're leaving town. MIA: What? NICOLE: I said, "It'll be gone tomorrow. And then, we're leaving town". MIA: I know what you said but...what? Why? NICOLE: You need more intense training. After last night's incident, training at places that don't serve alcohol. You and I are going on a little trip, Mia. And when I'm done with you, you'll be an expert at how to lie, cheat, and scheme to get the man you want. MIA: That's great, but it was only part of the question. The other question is: why are you doing this? NICOLE: What do you mean? MIA: Look, it's not that I don't appreciate what you're doing, I do, but why are you going to these extreme lengths to help me? NICOLE: Because I know how badly you want your man. I see a lot of myself in you. And, we've worked together before. So, why not? MIA: Any other reasons? Nicole stared off into space for a minute. PARK
Nicole is sitting on Benchy with a brown envelope. She opens it and looks inside.
NICOLE: How is this possible? This can't be right. She's my daughter.
SALEM INN Nicole snapped out of it. NICOLE: No. No other reasons. |
