Chapter 4
PIER
WILL: What just happened? Why is everything in black and white?
GRACE: Your wish has been granted, Will.
WILL: My wish?
GRACE: You wished that you had never been born.
WILL: Well, how was that wish granted?
GRACE: I told you, I'm an angel. I can do things. So, this is what the world would be like if you weren't in it.
Philip walked up to them.
PHILIP: Hey! What the hell are you two doing on my Pier?
WILL: Philip? Don't you recognize me?
PHILIP: Recognize you? I don't even know you! Who are you? And, how did you know my name?
WILL: Philip, it's me. It's Will.
PHILIP: I've never even heard of someone named Will. Will who?
WILL: Will Horton. Son of Sami Brady.
PHILIP: You're realated to that skank?
WILL: Excuse me?
PHILIP: Sami Brady only has one kid, but, I'm surprised it's only one, what with the amount of people she sleeps around with. Now, get off of my pier before I have to throw you out.
GRACE: Come on, Will.
The Angel led Will out into the streets of Salem.
WILL: What was that all about?
GRACE: Philip never joined the army. He joined the coast guard. But he lost the love of his life in a shooting and has turned into a bitter man who doesn't want anyone on "his" pier.
WILL: Who shot him?
GRACE: André. See, without you in the picture, the DiMeras took over.
WILL: That's horrible! And, what did he say about my...our mother?
GRACE: You don't have a mother, Will. You never existed.
WILL: Okay, what did he say about Sami?
GRACE: Sami's married to E.J. She works in a gentlemen's club. When E.J. allows her to go out, that is.
WILL: This is sick! You know that? This is so sick! If you're playing a joke or something, this has gone too far! What are you, a hypnotist or something?
GRACE: It's not a joke and I'm not a hypnotist. I'm an angel. And, I've granted your wish. You've been given a great gift, Will: the chance to see what the world would be like if you had never been born.
WILL: I need to get out of here.
CHEATIN' HEART
Will ran to the Cheatin' Heart.
MAX: What'll you have?
WILL: Just my usual.
MAX: Okay, stop playing around, what'll you have?
WILL: Max, you know, my usual. A rum and coke.
MAX: Let me see your I.D.
WILL: Max, what's wrong with you? You know me. You know I'm 21.
MAX: Hey, I'm the bartender here. I make the rules. Show me your I.D., or get out.
Will rummaged around in his pocket.
WILL: Where is it?
The Angel walked in and sat next to Will.
WILL: Where's my I.D.?
GRACE: You don't have an I.D., Will. If you never existed, it's impossible for you to have an I.D.
MAX: Looks like we got us a couple of wise guys, here. How about you two just go on home. I don't wanna have to call security.
Will and the Angel got down from the bar stools.
SALEM PLACE
WILL: What's his deal? I've known Max my whole life and he's never acted like that.
GRACE: You haven't known him your whole life because you don't have a life. You never existed. Max dropped out of high school and consequently never went to college, he went to the army. He got injured in battle and has a prosthetic leg now. He never quite got over it. He works as a bartender in the Cheatin' Heart.
WILL: Why didn't he go to college?
GRACE: He never got over his rebellious phase.
WILL: But, I wasn't even alive during his rebellious phase. How did he get over it in my timeline?
GRACE: Well, if you had lived, then Sami would have gotten pregnant with you around the time Max was considering dropping out of high school. But, seeing what happened with Sami getting pregnant and dropping out scared him and he decided to get a better education. It's amazing how one person affects so many peoples lives, isn't it?
WILL: Where's Sonny? I need to see Sonny!
Will ran off to find Sonny. The Angel followed.
GRACE: Will...
