BLACK APARTMENT

Victor: What is it with you young people that you don’t answer your cell phones? Philip isn't answering his either.
Brady: Maybe he turned it off. That’s what we “young people” do when we don’t want to be disturbed.
Victor: What the hell is taking him so long?
Brady: Maybe he got lost.
Brady got up off the sofa and looked out the window.
Victor: And where’s Chloe? I’m ready for dinner.
Brady: I don’t know. I thought she’d be home by now.
Victor: Ah, to hell with the both of them. I’m done waiting. Let’s go out to eat.
Brady slid open the terrace door and he stepped out onto the balcony. From the third floor perch, he could see Chloe’s car pull into her space in the parking lot below.
Brady: Ha! Here she is.
He watched as Chloe’s car door opened, then saw the passenger door open as well. A man got out of the passenger’s side and went around to the driver’s side. He took Chloe’s hands and helped her out of the car. It took a minute before Brady realized that the man was Philip. Then, he saw Philip lean over and kiss Chloe on the lips. His heart clenched as he watched Chloe put her arms around Philip. Brady blinked several times to figure out if what he was seeing was some drug-induced illusion. It wasn’t.

Brady continued watching as Chloe walked toward the building. She would be at the apartment door in a minute. But Philip waited, standing next to the car. Brady stared down at him. He wanted to kill him. He briefly fantasized about taking a gun and shooting a bullet into Philip’s skull. He shook himself out of his fantasy. He had to pull himself together to greet Chloe. Time to test his acting skills.

As soon as Chloe walked through the door, Brady took her in his arms and hugged her just a little too tightly.

Brady: Honey, I’m glad you’re home.
Chloe: Hi Brady. Victor.
Victor: It’s about damn time you got home.
Chloe: I told you on the phone I had an extra performance.
Brady: Is that what they’re calling it? An extra performance?
Chloe: Excuse me?
Brady: How was it? On a scale from one to 10. Was it a 10?
Chloe’s brow knit as she looked at Brady. She didn't think he looked like he was high, but he sure sounded crazy.
Chloe: Did you get dinner started?
Brady: It’s in the oven heating up. Or maybe I should say, everything’s about to heat up.
The doorbell rang.
Brady: Right on cue.
Brady opened the door and Philip walked in.
Philip: Sorry I took so long.
Brady: Some things just can’t be rushed.
Philip: Hi Chloe. Good to see you.
Brady: Hmm, didn’t you already see each other?
Philip: Um. Not lately.
Brady: I guess five minutes can seem like an eternity.
Chloe: I’ll put dinner on the table.
Philip: Need some help?
Chloe: Sure, that would be nice.
Brady: Sure Philip, help yourself. Again.

Ruh Roh!

I can't believe Chloe and Phillip weren't more careful. I guess they're already getting careless. Oh well, now it can all come out and hopefully they can REALLY be together.

Apparently Chloe didn't think Brady would be on the balcony. Things are getting really interesting. I wonder if Victor will notice all of the tension and weird vibes between the three of them. Brady doesn't like getting a taste of his own medicine.

Okay, the committee met and we have agreed to post another chapter, but I'm not sure you'll be much more satisfied than you were with the last. Why don't I just post the whole thing and get it over with.
