This story is how I would have written the 8-13-12 John and Marlena scenes

John and Marlena watched as the paramedics wheeled the gurney with the last of the injured out of the ballroom.
“Well, that was the last one, Doc. You ready to get outta here?” John asked Marlena, as he ran his hand gently down her back.
“Yes, I'm ready.” Marlena answered, and they both made their way carefully through the rubble of the once elegant room.
John made sure Marlena was safely seated in the passenger side of the car before he made his way around the front of the Jeep to the driver's side. Neither spoke as John pulled out of the parking lot and headed toward home, but he did reach for her hand, and gently kissed her fingers before laying their joined hands on his lap. Marlena turned her head to watch John as he drove through the night, so grateful that he was uninjured.
“I'm fine Sweetheart. You're the one with that goose egg on your forehead.” He took his eyes off of the road briefly to give her, what he hoped was a reassuring smile.
“John, you've been out of the wheelchair less than a year. You could have been paralyzed if some of the debris had fallen on you.” Marlena squeezed John's hand as she spoke.
“But it didn't. I'm fine.”
John pulled into his parking spot in front of the Townhouse, and they walked hand in hand to the door, Marlena preceded John in the house and went directly to the answering machine, which indicated they had messages.
Brady and Madison called assuring them that they had not been in town when the explosions hit. They didn't hear about it until they were checking in to their Hotel for their honeymoon, and they hoped the family was okay. John sent a quick text to let them know that everyone was okay. Sami called and said that she and the kids were fine. Marlena returned her call and reassured her that she and John were home safe, and sound after helping with the rescue effort. They filled each other in on the status of the other members of the family, and their friends. Marlena told Sami that she would see her in the morning, and told her that she loved her, and to tell the kids the same.
“Okay, Pretty Lady, time to get cleaned up and to let me take care of that gash on your forehead.” John walked up behind Marlena while she was on the phone with Sami, and was now rubbing her shoulders. Marlena replaced the phone on the charger and turned around so she could lean her head on John's shoulder, he wrapped his arms around her and held her close.
“Who is the doctor in this family?!?”
“Tonight, it's me. Come on Doc, let's go get cleaned up.” John slipped his arm around Marlena's waist as he led her through their bedroom, and into the bathroom.
John turned on the shower to let the water warm, then they undressed, he took his wife's hand and led her in to the glass enclosed shower.
“I love you Baby.” John said softly as he pulled her close and kissed her.
“Oh John! I love you so.” Marlena reached up and wrapped an arm around John's neck to deepen the kiss.
They slowly broke apart, and each took a turn pooling liquid soap into the palm of their hand, they washed each other carefully and slowly, taking great care around the bruises and abrasions. They lingered under the spray, caressing each other, and sharing passionate kisses until the water began to cool. They helped each other dry off, and Marlena let John administer first aid to the cut on her head.
They got into bed, and John wrapped his arms around Marlena as she settled her head on his shoulder, and placed a hand over his heart.
“When you spoke to Roman earlier did he say if they had any idea of the casualties?” Marlena looked up from John's shoulder while she spoke to him.
“He said they won't have a number until morning, at the earliest.”
“I'm so glad that our family is okay.”
“Me too Sweetheart.” He said as he ran a comforting hand down Marlena's arm.
“I'm so grateful that you weren't hurt tonight. I love you so much.” Marlena's hazel eyes filling with unshed tears.
“Hey, now. No tears. I love you. You are my life.” John whispered, his blue eyes shining with love for the woman that meant everything to him.
John shifted, and gently pushed Marlena away from him until she lay on her back, and then he covered her body with his as he began to kiss her tenderly and to explore her body with his hands. She gasped, that was the sound that John loved to hear from her, she was such a passionate and expressive lover, and their lovemaking was that much more special because of the deep feeling each had for the other. Sated and reassured that they were both okay, they fell asleep wrapped in each others arms.
