SALEM SQUARE GARDEN Alice Horton’s Funeral Service
[Please click here to LISTEN to what the mourners hear as they file into the arena:
[Hundreds of people have turned out for Alice Horton’s funeral. Her children Bill, Mickey, Tommy, and Marie, are there, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren Julie and Doug, Jennifer, Jack, and Abby, Laura Horton with Mike and Jeremy, Shawn, Belle and Claire, David and Scotty Banning, Jessica and Nick Fallon, Melissa Anderson, Sarah, pretty much every Horton relative, plus the regulars, hospital board members and staff, and many other friends, acquaintances, local dignitaries, and extended family members.]
Father Jansen: Thank you all for coming here today. Ordinarily, we hold our funeral services at St. Luke’s Cathedral, but our church isn’t large enough to hold all the love of the people who wish to pay this great lady their last respects, so the Salem Seahawks were good enough to let us use their stadium.
Before we begin, I have a few housekeeping notes. I am pleased to announce on behalf of Salem University Hospital that the new maternity wing is being dedicated in Mrs. Horton’s name: The Alice Horton Maternity and Pediatrics Center. Also, the reading of Alice Horton’s Will will take place at Mickey Horton’s office at 3234 Marlboro Court on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Before you leave the chapel today, I mean the stadium, please be sure to sign the guest book.
Now, I would like to ask her son, Bill Horton, to step to the microphone.
Bill: Thank you all for coming today and sharing your love and thoughts about my mother, Alice Horton. This is a sad, sad day for this community and for this family who has lost its beloved matriarch.
I’ve spoken to many of you over the past few days, and your kind words and remembrances have meant more than you know to Mickey, Tommy, Marie, and to me. I was here in town for a family affair and that enabled me to be at my mother’s side when she passed away. I’m grateful I was able to be with her.
I would like to thank the members of the community for their outpouring of love. Some of you, like DJM, are wearing black to express your sorrow. Thank you to Nurse Hamster, who Fedexed me the donut-embroidered armband I’m wearing today. And thanks to all those who emailed me with their remembrances. I’d like to read one of the emails to you now [puts on his glasses and reads]:
“PAllison remembered the time Alice was almost killed by a robot that was delivering meds at the hospital. She recalled the time when Mom helped Bo kidnap Hope from her wedding to Larry Welch, and also when Mom went to New Orleans with Bo and Hope to help steal the prism and expose the Cartel. Then there was the time she and Bo helped Roman escape from jail and another time when she traveled abroad to help Jennifer and Frankie.” [takes his glasses off.]
Thank you. I had almost forgotten about those days. Despite her important role as our family’s matriarch, Mom was always up for an adventure and showed incredible courage and ingenuity, as my niece Hope and her husband Bo can definitely attest to. Just a little while ago, my niece Julie told me that her life would have been a shambles without Alice, and that Alice was more like a mother to her than a grandmother. And my daughter Jennifer is devastated today, because she and my mother were as close as any grandmother and granddaughter could be.
As for my memories, I remember Mom as an active member of our church, someone who volunteered at Salem University Hospital and was later a member of the hospital board. When us kids were young, she sat on the PTA.
Still, her most important role in life was the role that gave her the most joy: wife and mother. She was a devoted wife to my father Tom. When he died, a part of her also died. I know they are reunited now, along with my sister Addie, and that they are smiling down at us now.
I can still see Mom coming out of the kitchen with a plate of donuts, or presiding over a family dinner in the dining room. Every room in my parents’ home was so filled with love and family and memories. After dinner, our family would sit in the living room talking for hours. Any time any one of her children or grandchildren had a problem, she is the person we would turn to for advice. But she gave advice sparingly. Instead, she listened and helped guide us to do what we knew in our hearts was the right thing.
I cannot even begin to imagine what next Christmas will be like without Mom. It is almost unthinkable. She lovingly handcrafted those ornaments for each one of us, year after year. Nothing gave her more joy than when she got to make a new ornament for someone who was marrying into the family or when a new baby was born. Each ornament was hung on the tree so that, no matter where in the world her family was at Christmas, we were always home. [His voice cracks as he wipes a tear away.]
Even though today is indeed a sad day, everyone here who knew my mother needs to remember how lucky they were to know her.
I believe that the memories we have of Alice Horton will warm us in the coming months and years. I ask you all to keep your memories of my mother close at heart, and tell your children and your children’s children about this gracious lady, so we can keep her alive in our hearts and minds for all the days of our lives.
My brothers, my sister, and I have so many favorite memories of her, that we had a hard time choosing which ones to put on this video tribute. We would like to share it with you now. [Readers, please click here to WATCH:

HORTON HOME, the evening of the funeral
Mickey: Bill, you did Mom proud today. Bill: Thanks Mickey, and thank you for giving me the honor of delivering the eulogy. Tommy: Here’s another telegram that arrived while we were at the service. Listen everyone. It’s from JAKiriakis, a fan. Shawn: Is he any relation to Grandpa Victor? Tommy: Not sure. Could be. Here’s what the telegram says.
“Whenever I think of who Alice Horton really is, I see her sitting in the chair next to the fireplace and listening to the song "Always" after Tom died. Even in her grief and her despair, she held her family together. Alice was the epitome of perfection - as a grandmother, as a mother, as a confidante, as a mentor and as a role model. I remember her helping Bo rescue Hope and watching her clutch his waist as he shot down the road on his motorcycle. I remember when half of Salem was trapped in the explosion/cave-in under the Alamain mansion somewhere in Europe, when Alice's memories kept everyone's hope alive. I remember when Gina surfaced and Alice refused to believe that it wasn't her beautiful granddaughter. I remember when she was Roman's neighbor and brought him some solace after he and Marlena split up.
Coming home for Christmas has always meant a trip to the Hortons to hang the ornaments on the tree. Without Grandma Horton, Christmas won’t been the same.
Her passing leaves me wistful and bittersweet for the time spent in Gran's living room, Gran's kitchen and all those hours we spent with her while she volunteered in that striped frock at University Hospital. Without her donuts and the various things she's baked into cakes and pastries, half of Salem would be behind bars and the other half would have gone hungry.” [The family breaks out in laughter.]
Maggie: Oh my. That’s so true. But how did he know all that? Mickey: I don’t know, but that telegram made me realize something. Mom wouldn’t have wanted us to spend the whole week crying. Bo: You’re right, Mickey. Mrs. H would say “Get it out of your system and move on.” Julie: I know! Let’s each tell a funny story about Grandma. Jack: That’s a great idea. I’ll start. One time, when I went undercover for a story, and I had to dress in drag, Alice loaned me her high heels ... and guess what? Jennifer: What? Jack: I never gave ‘em back. Abby: Dad! Dad: Seriously, I still wear them on special occasions. Black patent strappy things with a three inch heel. Abby: I’m soooo embarrassed.... Jack: My day is complete. I try to embarrass her at least once a day. Doug: Oh, I’ve got a story too! Hope: Tell us, Dad. [The evening continued on this way, well into the wee hours, with Alice’s family alternately laughing and crying while remembering cherished moments with Mrs. H.]
HORTON CABIN, the next day
Maggie: Sami! Thanks for coming so quickly. Sami: How’s he doing? Maggie: Awful. I was afraid this would happen. Sami: Has he been...? Maggie: Yes. He started drinking after Alice’s funeral. I saw the look on Lucas’ face when Bill talked about the ornaments. I think it’s what sent Lucas over the edge. Sami: What? Why? Maggie: The last ornament Alice ever made was for Chloe. And Chloe broke it. Sami: Talk about a bad omen! Maggie: I need to go out to the store to buy some more coffee. Stay with him until I get back. [Exits] [Sami sits on the edge of the bed that Lucas is lying in.] Sami: Lucas, you look terrible. When was the last time you shaved and got dressed? Lucas: What’s the disserence? Sami: Disserence? Lucas, have you been drinking? Lucas: What do you care? Sami: Of course I care. Are you kidding? Lucas: Leave me alone. Get out of here. Sami: I’m not going anywhere until you’re sober. Lucas: I don’t ever want to be sober. I want to be dead. My life is worthless. Sami: Why? Just because Chloe walked out on you? You don’t know how lucky you are to be rid of that tart. Lucas: Don’t talk about her that way. I’m the one who’s unworthy. Sami: How dare you say that about the man I love. Lucas: Love? Sami, you don’t know what love is. Sami [stroking Lucas’ face]: You’re wrong, Lucas. Sometimes I forget what love is, but in my more mature moments, I know it’s you. I’ve loved you for most of my life, and things always go wrong when we’re not together. But that’s all in the past. I know what I want now. And that’s why I’m never leaving your side again. KIRIAKIS MANSION
Kate: Philip, we need to talk. Philip: About what? Kate: About you and Lucas. Have you seen him? Philip: No. How’s he doing? Kate: He starting drinking again. He’s a complete wreck. You should call him or go see him. He needs our support. Philip [pouring a drink]: I’ll do that. Kate: Now, about you…I heard you and Stephanie broke up. Philip: Where’d you hear that? Kate: The Scorecard section of Soap Opera Digest, page 87. Philip: Wow, news travels fast. Kate: Would you care to tell me why the two of you broke up? Philip: No. Kate: Let me rephrase that. Why in hell did you and Stephanie break up? Philip: Mom, it’s personal. I don’t ask you to confide in me about your love life. In fact, please don’t. Kate: I just don’t understand. Do you and your brother want to break my heart? I was thrilled that Lucas was marrying Chloe and I was thrilled that you and Stephanie seemed headed in that direction too. My sons finally chose women I approve of, and then, poof, splitsville. Philip: Maybe your approval was the kiss of death. Kate: Don’t mock me. This is not a laughing matter. Philip: Neither is your marriage to Stefano Dimera. I don’t remember you asking for MY approval before you married him. Kate: That’s personal. Philip: Ah hah! Kate: Don’t “ah hah” me. I just want what’s best for my sons. Philip: That’s nice, Mom, whatever. Meanwhile, I’m missing a pivotal episode of The Apprentice, so I’ll catch up with you later. Kate: Philip, I will not tolerate that kind of insolence! Philip: I’m sorry, Mom. It’s just that this is a bit of a sore subject. Kate: Then let me help you make things right with Stephanie. Philip: Nooooo, thank you. You want to know what happened with me and Stephanie? I’ll tell you. I’ve been fooling myself by thinking I was the right man for her. Kate: I don’t understand. Philip: For months now, she’s been trying to mold me into the man of her dreams -- a hero-type, like her father -- and she keeps getting more and more disappointed that I’m not that kind of man. It kills me that I can’t live up to her expectations, but I can’t be someone I’m not. I need to be with someone who accepts me the way I am. Someone like... Kate: Someone like who? Philip: No one. Someone else. That’s all. Kate: Any woman would be lucky to have you. Philip: Can we change the subject? Kate: Sweetheart, I didn’t mean to pry. Where’s your father? Philip: He went out to dinner. Kate: A business dinner? Philip: Yes and no.
CHEZ ROUGE
Caroline: Thank you for inviting me to dinner, Victor. I haven’t dressed up and gone out in a long time. Victor: You should get out more often, Caroline. You look lovely. Caroline: Aw, thank you Victor. You said you have some exciting news. Victor: Yes. I do. Stephanie, your very talented granddaughter, came up with an idea to help your business become self-sustaining over time. Caroline: Stephanie did? Victor: The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, Caroline. She’s a very bright young woman. Caroline: What’s her idea? Victor: We are going to market and sell your clam chowder in mass production. Caroline: It sounds like a lot of work. I’d better start cooking. Victor: Ha! No, my dear. All you have to do is provide the recipe and some oversight. We’ll set up the rest. Caroline: Really? You think people will buy my chowder? Victor: I’m certain of it. Caroline: It sounds like a wonderful idea, but... Victor: But what? Tell me what you’re concerned about. Caroline: Not about the chowder. About the business itself. Victor: Go on. Caroline: I don’t mean to sound ungrateful. You’ve done so much already. But the Pub is a 20-hour a day job. Victor, I’m not as young as I used to be. Victor: But you’re just as lovely. Caroline: That’s kind of you to say. But I don’t have the energy I used to. Victor: Say no more. We’ll hire someone to run the pub for you. Caroline: I don’t know. It’s been a family business for so long. I hate to just turn it over to a stranger. Victor: You’re still the owner, Caroline. You’re still in charge. You will do the hiring. We’ll run an ad for a manager in the paper and get the ball rolling. How does that sound? Caroline: Too good to be true. Victor: Caroline, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking since Alice Horton died. Her death made me realize how short life is. Caroline: She lived to 95. Victor: Humor me, Caroline. I’ve always wanted the opportunity to do something special for you...to take care of you. I feel like I’m finally getting that chance. Caroline: I’m surprised how much I like it when you take care of me. Victor: I’d like to see it extend outside of business, Caroline. Would you be willing to give me that chance? Caroline: Victor, when you asked me out to dinner, I didn’t think it was just to talk about business. So, I’d say that I am already giving you that chance. Victor [puts his hand on Caroline’s hand]: Thank you.

THE BRADY PUB Roman: It’s too bad John couldn’t make it back in time for the funeral. But I can’t tell you how glad I am that he’s back to his old self again. Marlena: It was a miracle. Roman: And he had no residual effects from the paralysis? Marlena: None. Well … actually, one. Roman: What is it? Marlena: It’s of a highly personal nature. Roman: [Long, awkward silence.] Oh. I see. Marlena: It’s the reason he’s thrown himself into his work with the ISA. Roman: [Long, awkward silence.] That must be hard on you. Marlena: It is! He’s been pushing me away for months now. We’ve tried everything -- hypnosis, couples counseling, surgery, massage therapy, porno -- and nothing makes a difference. Roman: I’m really sorry to hear that. [Long, awkward silence.] How long will you be staying in Salem? Marlena: I’m thinking maybe permanently. Roman: Huh? I don’t get it? Marlena: This was actually a trial separation for me and John. Roman: I’m shocked. I thought you and John were.... Well, all I can say is, he’s a fool. There are more important things in life. I would never give you up willingly. Not for anything. Marlena: I know you wouldn’t. Roman: Marlena, can I tell you something? I always felt like my life was stolen from me. I had a great life. WE had a great life together. Then Stefano took it all away from me. And I was never able to get over it. I had one great love in my life, and that was you. [Readers: Please click the link to WATCH the memories Roman and Marlena are sharing, then return to this page. Roman: Do you think ... Marlena: Go ahead, Roman, say it. Roman: Do you think we could give it another shot, Doc? Marlena: I was hoping you’d say that. [Stephanie is sitting at another table in the Pub brooding. Click here to LISTEN to the song that’s playing on the jukebox: www.imeem.com/kyutzo/music/1c...gees_emotions/][Melanie walks in.] Melanie: Soooo, I heard Philip finally dumped you. No big surprise there. Stephanie: Go to hell, Melanie. Melanie: Actually, I’m not going anywhere. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. You rubbed my face in your relationship with Philip. Now it’s my turn. You know, I never understood why he wasted all that time with you anyway. I think it’s because he felt sorry for you after Max dumped you. [Stephanie throws her glass of beer in Melanie’s face. A cat fight ensues. Marlena and Roman try to break them up, but are unsuccessful. Pete the bartender steps in and gets kicked in his shin for his troubles. Just then, Victor brings Caroline home from their date.] Caroline: Stephanie! Melanie! You will stop this nonsense this minute! [The two women stop fighting.] Victor: I can’t believe that this is the behavior of two of Titan’s young executives. You’re both fired! Caroline: Victor! [Stephanie runs out of the Pub.] Caroline: Victor, please don’t fire them over this. Victor: I’m just teaching them a lesson, Caroline. I’ll hire them back in the morning. Melanie: Don’t bother. I already have a better offer. I’m going to take me and my fuel project to the Dimeras! To be continued….

CHEATIN’ HEART
Stephanie: Where’s Max? Bartender: It’s his night off. Stephanie: Damn. EJ: Max is quite the popular fellow these days. Stephanie: Oh, hi EJ. EJ: “Oh hi EJ.” You certainly know how to stroke a man’s ego. Stephanie: I’m sorry, EJ. This just hasn’t been one of my best weeks. EJ: You do look like you’ve been through the wringer. Stephanie: You certainly know how to stroke a GIRL’S ego. EJ: Come. Let’s sit at that table there and you can tell me your troubles. I’ll buy you a drink. Bartender, a couple of draughts over here please. Now, then, Stephanie, tell me what happened. Stephanie: I lost my boyfriend and my job in the same week. EJ: Ouch. So sorry to hear that. I didn’t know you were seeing anyone. Stephanie: I was. And it was pretty serious too. EJ: Anyone I know? Stephanie: Yeah, your business rival. Philip Kiriakis. EJ: Really? I didn’t realize you were dating your boss. Those things usually end badly. Besides which, I can’t see you and young Mr. Kiriakis together. Stephanie: Thanks a lot. EJ: I didn’t mean that as an insult, love. I meant that you’re too sweet for him. Stephanie: Hmmm, why does that sound familiar? Oh, I know. That’s what you said to me when YOU broke up with me. EJ: At least I’m consistent. Do you ever think about Monte Carlo? Stephanie: You mean when we were there for the Grand Prix in 2005? Once in a while, it crosses my mind. EJ: We certainly were torrid together, weren’t we? Stephanie: I think of it more along the lines of a head-on collision. What about YOUR current love life? EJ: What love life? Stephanie: I thought you were going to marry Nicole. EJ: We WERE going to be married. I was foolish enough to think she had changed. I was wrong -- in spades. Stephanie: I guess we’re both in sad shape, huh? EJ [reaching for her hand]: I think I know how we can make each other feel a little better, at least for tonight.
SALEM SEAPORT
[Sami and Lucas are walking arm in arm along the pier after midnight.] Sami: I can see you’re feeling better now, aren’t you? Lucas: I am. Thanks for making me attend that AA midnight meeting tonight. You were right when you said it was just what I needed. Sami: I was really proud of you for getting up and telling everyone your story. What are you planning to do now? Lucas: Just take one day at a time, as they say. Sami: You know I’m here for you. Lucas: You don’t need to babysit me, Sami. Sami: I’m not babysitting you, Lucas. Lucas: There must be a million other places you’d rather be right now. Sami: Didn’t you hear what I told you the other day? Lucas: I heard you, but I’m not holding you to it. Sami: Not even if I want to be held ... held to it, that is? Lucas [facing her]: Do you really want to get back on that merry-go-round again? Haven’t we been down this road enough times? Sami: Maybe we just need to keep doing it until we get it right. Lucas: And how close are we to getting it right? Sami: This close. [She kisses him.] Lucas: I’ve missed you, Sami. Sami: Not as much as I’ve missed you. [They kiss again.]

DIMERA MANSION
[Outside the front door, Stephanie and Melanie run into each other as both are leaving the mansion.] Melanie: Well, well, well. What are YOU doing here? Stephanie: None of your business. Melanie: You know, Stephanie, you remind me of a cockroach. Every time I think I’ve squished you, you turn up somewhere else. Stephanie: You’re so funny, Melanie, that you should be in the circus. You know, Melanie, you and I are more alike than we’d like to think. Melanie: Ooh. This should be good. How are we alike? Stephanie: We’re both survivors. We may get knocked down, but we’re not knocked out. Melanie: I know, you’re right hook isn’t as potent as you think. Stephanie: Oh, by the way, you should get used to seeing me around here.
[Inside the mansion.] Stefano: How are things going with Millicent? EJ: Melanie. ... I’m not certain she actually has any information we can use. The alternative fuel project is like a big puzzle that she can’t even decipher. Stefano: Then that makes her expendable. That’s too bad. I thought she was the whole key to bringing down Titan. EJ: Not to worry. I’m working on another angle. I believe Stephanie Johnson knows more than a few of Titan’s secrets. Stefano: Oh? And what makes you think she will share them with us? EJ: Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, as they say.
[Both men laugh that evil Dimera laugh of theirs as Kate enters.]
Kate: What’s all this about Titan? Stefano: Elvis, would you excuse us. [EJ leaves.] Cara Mia, you are looking quite lovely this morning. Kate: Don’t try to change the subject by sweet-talking me. What were you and EJ talking about? Stefano: It was business, Dolcezza. Nothing for you to be concerned about. Kate: If it was about Titan, it certainly does concern me. Stefano: Katharina, you know you mean the world to me, but I will not have you interfering in my business. Kate: And I will not stand by and have you interfere in my son’s business. Stefano: Oy. Kate: I need your word that you will not do anything ... I mean ANYTHING to harm Philip’s company. If I don’t get the answer I want, I’m going to pack my bags right now and you will never see me again. Stefano: But Tesoro... Kate: I mean it, Stefano. Stefano: Ah well. Yes, of course, you have my word. I will not go after Titan. Kate: Thank you! Stefano: Do you have any relatives working at Basic Black? Kate: No blood relatives. Stefano: Ah! Perfecto!
THE BRADY PUB, one month later
Chelsea: I’m so depressed. Abby: Depressed? Why? This is a happy day. Chelsea: I just never thought my grandmother would get married before me. That sounded weird didn’t it? Abby: A little. Chelsea: I’m glad you decided to move back to Salem, Abby. I’ve really missed having my best friend around. Abby: Me too. Chelsea: I don’t mean to be a downer. It’s just that I hate going to these things alone. Abby: Then may I have the honor of escorting you to the wedding, Ms. Brady? Chelsea: The honor would be all mine, Ms. Devereaux.

ST. LUKE’S CATHEDRAL
Victor and Caroline’s Wedding Day
[Click here to LISTEN to the background music: ]
Father Jansen: And now, Victor and Caroline would like to say something to each other. Victor [facing Caroline]: We’ve had a most unorthodox courtship, Caroline. I spent most of my life loving you from afar. Today, I finally am free to tell the world how much you mean to me...how much you’ve always meant to me. You were worth waiting for, Caroline. Caroline: And I am a very lucky woman. During my life, I’ve been loved by two wonderful men. Two very different men, but both with big hearts and sincere intentions. I have to say that I’m surprised to be standing here with you today. Surprised and very happy. Victor: I love you very much, Caroline. Caroline: I love you too, Victor. Father Jansen: By the power vested in me, I pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.
THE BRADY PUB, at Victor and Caroline’s Wedding Reception
Abby: See, Chelsea, that wasn’t so hard. Chelsea: It was actually the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever been to. Brady: Hey Chels. Aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend here? Chelsea: This is Abby Devereaux. I thought you knew each other. Abby: We do. It’s nice to see you again, Brady. Brady: Little Abby Devereaux? You look a lot older than the last time I saw you. Abby: I’m not sure how to take that. Chelsea: I think he means it as a compliment. If you’ll excuse me, I need to go see if my family tree has changed now that my grandma is married to my grandfather. Brady: I DID mean it as a compliment. Would you like to dance? Abby: Love to.
Hope: It’s too bad Kimberly couldn’t make it. Kayla: It wasn’t so much that she COULDN’T make it. She just isn’t thrilled about the idea of Victor marrying Mom. Hope: That’s understandable. Steve: At least Frankie was able to make it back.
Bo: It’s great to see you, man. I’m glad you could come. Frankie: Hey, I wouldn’t miss this for the world. Say, there’s something I want to talk to you about. Bo: I know. Frankie: Ma told you I’m involved with someone? Bo: Not exactly. Frankie: Well, good, because I wanted to tell you myself. Bo: About you and Billie.... Frankie: How did you know? Bo: It’s not important. What’s important is that you’re happy. Frankie: We are. I just felt a little weird about it because of your history with her. Bo: There’s nothing to feel weird about. You’re both great people and I’m really happy for you. I hope it all works out. Frankie: Hey, thanks man. Bo: It’s too bad she couldn’t come with you. Frankie: Maybe next time.
Philip: Hi Steph. Stephanie: I’d really rather not talk to you. Philip: I understand. But I just figured since we’re sort of related now, we can try to be friends. Stephanie: I can’t believe you actually said that. Philip: That didn’t come out the way I meant it to. Steph, look, I’m really sorry about the way I handled everything. When I said we should take a break, well, it was because you yourself said that you want someone who’s kind and gentle. And it kills me that I was always disappointing y…. Stephanie: I see you’ve been reading Cosmo again. Go practice your anger management techniques on someone who cares. Philip: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Steph, maybe we should start ove... Stephanie: Let me guess. You’re about to ask me for yet ANOTHER chance? Philip: I wish you’d let me finish a sentence once in a... THE BRADY PUB, Victor and Caroline’s Wedding Reception continues

Bo: Frankie told me about him and Billie. Hope: So you were right about that! Steve: What about Frankie and Billie? Bo: They’re a couple now. Steve: No kidding? She does get around. I remember when Billie and me were together and ... Kayla [shakes her head and smiles]: This is one of those times when I wish he had amnesia again. Victor [approaches them]: Steve, can I speak to you for a minute? Will you ladies excuse us? Bo: “Ladies”?? What am I? Chopped liver?
Steve: What’s up, big dude? Do you want some advice for the wedding night? Just give her all the time she needs, be gentle.... Victor: Don’t be crass. I have a business proposal for you. Steve: Oh no, I’m not going there again. I am walking the straight and narrow, and I... Victor: This is a legitimate job offer, Steve. Steve: I already have a job. I have my own business. Victor: I hear it’s not going so well. Steve: I don’t know who told you that, but they were wrong. Victor: Really? How many cases have you had in the last six months? Steve: That’s confidential information. Victor: Alright then, how many lines of dialogue have you had in the last six months? Steve: You got me there. My genius agent thought we could get around the budget cuts by negotiating a contract where I get paid by the word. Victor: I see it backfired on you. Steve: And how! The suits realized that if they don’t write any lines for me, they don’t have to pay me. Victor: Some agent! Steve: I fired his butt. Victor: I’ll put you in touch with Philip’s agent. In the meantime, I have an opening for a director of security at Titan. Steve: Right. Like I’m gonna dress up in a guard’s uniform and sit in the lobby and get visitors to sign a guest book. I don’t think so. Victor: Hardly. I’m talking about Information Security, Steve. Corporate espionage, Internet security, firewalls, intellectual property, break-ins, hacking, guarding company secrets. In today’s environment, the competition is fierce and they’d like nothing more than to beat us to market. I need someone who can outsmart them all, including the Dimeras, and that’s you, Mr. Johnson. Steve: I appreciate the vote of confidence, Victor. I’m just not sure I’d feel comfortable working with your son. He broke my baby girl’s heart. Victor: The job pays $150,000 to start. Not including a signing bonus and stock options. Steve: I’ll take it!
Frankie: A lot has changed around here. Max: Maybe things wouldn’t seem so different if you didn’t stay away so long. [Caroline walks over.] Frankie [putting his arm around her]: Ma, I can’t believe you actually married Victor Kiriakis. Max: Don’t worry, Frankie. I had a long talk with Victor and he knows I’ll beat the **** out of him if he hurts Ma. Caroline: Max! I hope you didn’t really say that to him. Victor is a good man, and he’s very good to me. Look at everything he’s done for this family. He saved the Pub, he’s giving Steve a job, he gave you a job. Frankie: What’s this about a job, Max? Max: He hired me as manager of the Pub. Caroline: You’re the perfect person for the job, Max. You’ve already been doing it without getting paid. Max: I know. And now, suddenly, I’m earning all this money, plus a piece of the profits. Caroline: I was hoping you’d use some of that money to pay for college. Max: I enrolled at Salem University yesterday. I’m going to major in physics and minor in restaurant and hospitality management. Frankie: Hey, that’s great, little brother! Caroline: That makes me very happy too. My fondest wish has always been for you to graduate college. But I don’t want you wearing yourself out. You’ll have a lot of responsibility now. Max: Typical Ma. Worry, worry, worry.

TITAN’S EXECUTIVE OFFICES Philip: Welcome to Titan. Nick: Thank you Philip! With my record, it means a lot to me to have a job like this. Thanks for giving me the chance. Philip: I'm sure you heard that Melanie took your energy project to the Dimeras. Nick: I heard, and that really ticked me off. They’re the last ones I’d want profiting from my invention. Philip: The good news is that they haven’t done anything with it yet. Meanwhile, our attorneys are working on bringing an injunction that limits the Dimeras’ ability to use it. Nick: That’s good. Philip: When I interviewed you, you mentioned that you have a new idea. Nick: Right. While I was in prison, I came up with a design for the next generation biofuel. This is going to make the old idea look like a horse and buggy. I have the blueprint right here. Philip: Excellent! And so there are no misunderstandings, I’m going to need you to sign this agreement giving Titan full rights to the project. Nick: With pleasure! THE JOHNSON APARTMENT [Kayla comes home after work and sees a note from Steve that says: “The stars are out tonight, baby. Come look at them with me.” She smiles and heads for the stairwell. Steve comes out from behind the door holding one yellow rose.] Kayla: What did you do? Steve: Your mother’s wedding inspired the romantic side of me. Come here, baby, I want to show you something. [He points to the back of the door.] Kayla: The initials of all the couples who have lived in this building. Steve: Bo and Hope, me and you, Austin and Carrie, Jack and Jennifer … Kayla: Justin and Adrienne, John and Isabella, Brady and Chloe, Shawn and Belle, Sami and Lucas… Steve: You know what they all have in common? Kayla: Aside from the obvious? Steve: They all thought they had the greatest love affair of them all. But they’re wrong. WE’RE the ones who have the greatest love affair of them all. Dance with me, Sweetness. [They dance and kiss.] Steve: We were apart for a long time, Sweetness. But no matter what I did or where I went, my heart was right here with you. I want to renew my commitment to you, baby. [Steve gets down on one knee.] Will you marry me all over again, Sweetness? Kayla [with tears flowing]: You know I will. [They kiss passionately and eventually lower to the blanket on the ground, and make love on the rooftop, just like their first time. CITY HALL
[Abby is interviewing Abe and Bo for an article in The Salem Spectator.] Abe: So, what do you want to know? Abby: I was looking over some statistics for the City and I couldn’t believe it. Since the two of you were appointed to your jobs, the crime rate is down 26% overall, with violent crimes down by 37%. Unemployment is at 3% compared to the national average of almost 8%. You’ve lowered the tax rates for residents and small businesses. Salem was named one of the top 10 most livable cities in the U.S. Whew. I could go on and on, but all I can say is wow! That is just so impressive. How did you do it? Abe: We had a multipronged strategy that targeted our highest crime areas. The waterfront, for example, has been a hotbed for drug deals and prostitution ever since I can remember. Bo: So we started by cleaning up the docks. Abe: We offered tax breaks for businesses to move into that area. Bo: And today, we have a thriving seaport and farmer’s market where the docks used to be. It’s well-lit and inviting to tourists and residents alike. … Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound like a travel brochure. Abby: But you’re right. I went to the Concert Under the Stars at the Seaport with Brady the other night. We saw a band called The Dead Fishies. They were great. Bo: You and Brady Black? Is this a news flash? Abby: No comment… I think the waterfront cleanup is wonderful, but I can’t imagine that it would account for all of the 26% lower crime rate. Bo: Well…it doesn’t account for ALL of it. Abe, is it okay if I tell her about the Dream Team? Abe: I suppose, but this has to be off the record. Abby [puts down her pen and paper]: What’s the Dream Team? Bo: For some time now, I’ve had these visions where I see things that are going to happen in the future. Abby: Visions! Really? Bo: Right. Well, it’s taken a while, but I finally learned how to channel my visions. Now I can see a crime about an hour before it happens – enough time to dispatch a black & white, and catch the criminal red-handed. Abby: Wow, that’s amazing! Who else is on this “Team”? Abe: My mother-in-law, Celeste Perrault. Abby: I remember your mother-in-law. Which reminds me, how are Lexie and Theo? Abe: They’re very well, thank you for asking. Theo is enrolled in a program for high-functioning autistic savant children and he’s really thriving. And Lexie is the chairperson for the state chapter of Autism Speaks. Say, if you ever want to do a story about autism, Lexie would be a great contact for you. Abby: Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind. Bo: I hope we’ve given you enough information for your article. Uh oh. Abby: What’s wrong? Are you having a vision? Bo: Yeah. I see Hope getting angry at me because I’m late in picking Ciara up from school today. Abby [laughs]: Well, then I won’t keep you any longer. I want to thank you both for your time. Bo: No problem. It will be nice to read a good-news story about Salem for a change.
JAVA CAFE
Chloe: So, you and Max? That blows my mind. Nicole: I know. Who’da thunk? Chloe: I don’t know Max very well, but he always seemed like a nice guy. Nicole: He IS a very nice guy, especially considering who his biological father is. He’s nothing at all like Trent. Chloe: But he’s not...I mean ... he’s not rich or powerful... Nicole: Thanks for the ringing endorsement! Chloe: No offense, Nicole, but he’s so different from the men you typically go after. Nicole: That’s just it. I didn’t go after him. It just happened. And no, he doesn’t have money. He’s just a regular guy with a good job. Chloe: Working at the Pub? Nicole: He’s the MANAGER of the Pub, if you don’t mind. But enough about me. How have you been since the wedding disaster of the millennium? Chloe: I’ve been terrible. My life has turned into one big train wreck. Nicole: What happened anyway? Chloe: Without going into the gory details, Sami found out about... Nicole: Oh, Sami. I should have known she was involved somehow. Chloe: Yeah, Sami got some incriminating information and she threatened to tell Lucas unless I backed out of the wedding. Nicole: Incriminating information? That sounds interesting. Spill, girl! Chloe: Uh uh. No, I’d really rather not talk about it. I just want to forget all about it. Nicole: And you’re really leaving Salem? Chloe: I got a job with Opéra National de Paris. I leave next week. And it can’t be soon enough for me. Nicole: Well, I’ll miss you kiddo. I’ll see you before you leave, but don’t expect any mushy good-bye scenes from me. Speaking of good-byes, what time is it? Chloe: 2:30. Nicole: I gotta run. I promised Max I’d help him at the Pub this afternoon. See ya later. Chloe: See you later, Nicole. [Then, to herself:] I hate sad good-byes too. SALEM PLACE
[Chloe is walking out of the Java Cafe and runs smack into Philip. They stand there looking at each other for several minutes. Chloe breaks the ice.] Chloe: This is a coincidence. I was just thinking about you. Then again, I’m always thinking about you these days. Philip: I ... I was just heading back to work. Chloe: Before you go ... Philip: There’s nothing more to say, Chloe. Chloe: ...I should probably tell you that I’m leaving Salem next week. Philip: Uh oh … were there more budget cuts? Chloe: It’s actually a much bigger deal than that. Didn’t you get your email from Ken Corday? Philip: I’m about three weeks behind in reading my emails. I’d better get back to the office. Chloe: Philip, wait! This may be the last time we ever see each other. [They look at each other for a long while. Then Philip grabs Chloe by her arms and kisses her passionately, a long, last kiss. Just then, Kate rounds the corner and sees them, but stands back so they don’t see her.]
Philip: Good-bye, Chloe. Take good care of yourself. Chloe: I’ll always love you, Philip Kiriakis. Philip: I’ll... [He stops himself from finishing his sentence, then turns and heads back to the Titan building. Chloe walks in the other direction and runs into Kate.]
Chloe: Kate! How long have you been standing there? Kate: Long enough. Lauren: Ich. I can’t believe someone actually got paid to write these predictable lines. Nadia: I know. Sometimes I think we could write better dialogue ourselves. Lauren: That’s a great idea! Let’s do it. Nadia: Oh, I’m excited! You start. Kate: Is Philip the reason you broke up with Lucas? Chloe: Philip and I were just saying good-bye. Kate: Really? That didn’t look like a good-bye kiss. Is it your personal mission to keep breaking my sons’ hearts? Chloe: Of course not! I was telling him good-bye because I’m leaving Salem and going to Europe. Kate [sarcastically]: Well then, get me a pen so I can give you Austin’s address. I don’t think you’ve had the chance to break HIS heart yet. You know, Chloe, it’s a good thing you’re leaving the country. Chloe: Why? Kate: Because I would make it MY personal mission to make your life a living hell. I would make that flesh-eating bacteria look like child’s play. Chloe: Kate, why are you being so mean to me? I’m the one who saved your life. Kate: As Victor said, everyone has bone marrow. But no one gets away with hurting my sons. Nadia: Laur, that was fabulous! You really had me scared. And mentioning Austin was a stroke of genius! Lauren: You had some amazing moments too, Nadia. Nadia: Wanna go get some lunch? Lauren: I can’t. I’m dieting. Have you heard about the new Lemonade Diet? [They exit the set.]
TITAN’S EXECUTIVE OFFICES
[Victor’s voice comes through the intercom.] Victor: Philip, Brady, come into my office, now.
Victor: Sit down, men. I’m taking a step back from running the business. Philip: Again? Victor: Now that Caroline and I are married, I want us to spend more quality time together. Caroline hasn’t done very much traveling in her life, so I’m going to take her on a year-long trip around the world, starting with Greece. That’s where both of you come in. I’m leaving the U.S. operations in your hands, Philip, and giving Brady the reins of Titan Europe. As you know, we had to eliminate the Vienna office due to poor market conditions, so you’ll be running the business from our Paris office, Brady. Congratulations, men. I know I’m leaving Titan in capable hands. Brady: Thank you, Grandfather. I won’t let you down. [Shakes Victor’s hand and leaves.] Victor: I thought you’d be pleased, son. You don’t look very happy. Philip: It’s just that... I’ve been feeling pretty cooped up lately. I’m ... I was thinking about getting out of Salem for a little while. I would have liked to run the European operations. Brady always gets the things I want. Victor: Stop your whining, Philip. It makes more sense for Brady to do it. He’s familiar with the European business community after spending so much time working for Titan in Vienna. He’s a natural to run our overseas operations. If you need to get away, take a vacation. Philip: I just wish you had talked to me about it before making the announcement. You tell me I’m the CEO, and yet you always make these major decisions without consulting with me first. Victor: As Chairman of the Board, I have a right to make major decisions. I don’t need to consult with anyone on it! I made the right decision, and I’m standing by it.
[Kate arrives as Philip stomps out of Victor’s office. He walks right past her.] Kate: Victor, what’s going on with you and Philip? You’re not giving him a hard time again, are you? Victor: What are you doing here Kate? Industrial espionage? Kate: What? Victor: You’re in bed with the Dimeras now. You’re not welcome here. Kate: I was actually coming here to tell you that I have Stefano’s word that he won’t try to undermine Titan. Victor: His word, huh? I don’t recall you being gullible, Kate. Kate: I asked for his word, and he gave it to me. I believe him. Victor: I see. Well, thank you for your efforts on our behalf, but I’m going to continue to keep my guard up where the Dimeras are concerned.
[Kate leaves Victor’s office and goes to see Philip.] Kate: I just ran into Chloe in Salem Place. Philip: So? Kate: She told me she’s leaving Salem. Philip: And I repeat, so? Kate: I must admit that I’m rather disappointed about the part you played in her breakup with Lucas. [Philip stares at her, but doesn’t say anything.] When did you start seeing her? Philip: 1999. Kate: No, I mean when did you start to have feelings for her again? Philip: Ten years ago. Kate: It’s all starting to make sense now. You, Stephanie, Lucas, Chloe. Philip: The only thing you need to know is that it’s over … for Lucas’ sake. And one other thing… We never betrayed Lucas. It’s important to me that you know that, Mom.

THE HORTON CABIN [Please click here to LISTEN to the song that accompanies this scene: ] Father Jansen: Lucas, Samantha, are you ready? Lucas: I sure am. Sami: Me too. Father Jansen: Well, you know the drill. Lucas: Sami, we’ve been through hell and back (oops, sorry Father Jansen.) We’ve been through an awful lot, but somehow we keep finding our way back to each other. It’s because you’re the love of my life, Sami. Sami: You were my first love, Lucas. First, last, and always. I know that I can be so stubborn sometimes. Lucas: You can say that again. Sami: Sometimes, I don’t see what’s staring me in the face. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me, Lucas. And I promise here and now that I will never forget it as long as I live. You’re the one that I want to be with for the rest of my life. Father Jansen: I think I know the answer but, do you, Lucas, take Samantha Gene to be your lawfully wedded wife? Lucas: I do. Father Jansen: Do you, Samantha, take Lucas to be your lawfully wedded husband? Sami: I do. Father Jansen: Then, by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride. [They kiss, then shake Father Jansen’s hand. He leaves.] Maggie: I am so happy for both of you. You were right about not having a church wedding. Lucas: No more church weddings for me. They’re bad luck. Will: I think it’s awesome that my parents are married to each other, but it had better last this time! Roman: Lucas, your mother is going to have a fit when she finds out you got married without telling her. Lucas: Well, it’s better than her having a fit beforehand. I don’t need her opinions any more. Marlena: I wouldn’t put much stock in her judgment anyway, especially now that she’s married to Stefano Dimera. You made the right choice, Lucas. Lucas: See, Sami, I can make my own decisions. Sami: Finally! [kisses Lucas.] Bill: We do have some news though. Lucas: What is it? Bill: Mickey, why don’t you tell them. Mickey: Lucas, Sami, we have some good news and some bad news. My mother left the Horton cabin to me and Maggie, and now that we're retiring, we want to live here full-time. Sami: You’re throwing us out? Where will we go? Lucas: I’m hoping that wasn’t the “good news” part. Bill: Here's the good news part. My mother left her house to me. And, since I’m going back to Africa tonight, I want to give it to the both of you. I wasn’t there for you growing up, Lucas, only because I didn’t know you were my son. So, I’d like you to give me the opportunity to do this for you now. Will you accept? Lucas: Is there a mortgage on it? Bill: It’s free and clear. Sami and Lucas [in unison]: We accept! Sami: I love the idea of living in the Horton home. It was always such a happy home filled with so much love. Ooh, and we get to continue the Christmas tree-decorating tradition. Lucas: Yes, but you're gonna have to brush up on your donut-making skills. Maggie: There’s one other thing I’m hoping I can persuade Sami to do. Sami: What’s that? Maggie: As Mickey said, we’re retiring. So, would you run Chez Rouge for me? Sami: Really? Oh my goodness, yes. I would love to! I’ve been wanting to find a job, and now... Thank you, Aunt Maggie! Thank you so much! Maggie: Wonderful. Now that that’s settled, everyone here is invited to Chez Rouge to a private dinner to celebrate Lucas and Sami’s wedding. CHEZ ROUGE, that evening [Please click here to LISTEN to the music that’s playing: www.metacafe.com/watch/224267..._james_ingram/ ] Maggie: It’s too bad Bill couldn’t join us before flying back to Africa tonight, but in his absence, I’d like to raise a glass of sparkling cider to toast the bride and groom. Roman: Here, here! Marlena: To Sami and Lucas. Bo: May you both be as happy as Fancy Face and me. Doug: And the Fair Lady and me. Roman: Not to steal anyone’s thunder, but I have some news too. Sami: What is it, Daddy? Roman: Doc, is it okay if I tell them? Marlena: Please do. Roman: Your mother and I are getting back together. Sami: OH...MY...GOSH! Are you serious? Roman: As a heart attack. Sami: This is what I’ve hoped for all my life. This is the happiest day ever! Bo [to Hope]: They’re playing our song, Fancy Face. Hope: Are you asking me to dance, Bo Brady? [The couples all get up to dance.] Bo: Remember our New Year’s Resolution, Fancy Face? Hope: Which one? Bo: The one where we said we’d spend more time together as a family? Hope: I remember that one. Bo: Since Mrs. H died, I’ve been thinking that we need to make good on that promise. Hope: No arguments here, Brady. But your job.... Bo: I implemented a new policy at work yesterday. No more overtime. Hope: No more overtime pay, or no more overtime work? Bo: Both. The city will save money, and I get to spend more time with you. Hope: I love you, Brady. Bo: And I could not love you more, Fancy Face. To be continued....

HEARTH & HOME OFFICES, the following Monday Lucas: Mom, I have something important I need to talk to you about. Kate: What’s goin’ on? Lucas: I’m starting a new chapter in my life. Kate: You’re writing a book? Lucas: No, at least not yet. I’ve gotten remarried. Kate: What? I didn’t know you were even dating anyone, unless you got back together with Chloe. Lucas: No, it’s not Chloe. And I’m not sure I know how to tell you this. Kate: Lucas, you’re starting to worry me. Lucas: You have to promise me you won’t flip out. Kate: OK. Lucas: I married Sami. Kate: Sami who? Lucas: Sami Brady. Kate [flipping out]: WHAT? ? Lucas [snapping out of his daydream]: I guess I need to tell her for real. [Lucas goes into Kate’s office.] Lucas: Mom, I have something important I need to talk to you about. Kate: You mean about marrying Sami? Lucas: How did you know? Kate: Will told me. Lucas: Will did? Kate: Don’t be angry with him. He accidentally let it slip. He’s apparently quite happy. Lucas: So am I. Kate: Well, that’s wonderful, sweetheart. I have a meeting I have to run to... Lucas: Wait, wait, wait. Is that all you’re going to say about it? Kate: Oh. You’re right. How thoughtless of me. Congratulations, sweetheart. I’ll call Sami and we’ll pick a day for you both to come over to the mansion for dinner. Lucas: What did you do with my mother? Did Rolf switch your personality with Kayla or something? Kate: No, it’s really me. My bout with cancer gave me a new perspective. It’s not worth fighting anymore. Lucas: So you’re okay with this? Kate: The truth? I still don’t like Sami. I never will. But I need to let my children make their own mistakes because my choices for you haven’t exactly worked out. I love you and still want you to be happy, of course, but I’ve come to realize that my idea of happiness may be different than yours and your brother’s. Lucas: Wow, this is amazing. I was expecting an argument. Kate: If you want an argument, go home to Sami. As I recall, she was always up for a good fight. As for me, I’m stepping out of the ring. [She leaves.] Lucas: Hmph. I’m not sure I like her this way. That was no fun at all. TITAN’S EXECUTIVE OFFICES [Abby is interviewing Victor, Brady, and Philip for an article the Salem Spectator] Victor: So you see, even though I won’t be as hands-on as I’ve been in the past, my son and grandson will continue to fulfill Titan’s mission and vision. The change in management will be seamless, as far as our shareholders are concerned. Abby: Perfect. Thank you, gentlemen. I appreciate all the information. Philip: When will the story run? Abby: In Wednesday’s business section. Victor: And I trust that it will be written with a positive spin. Abby: You can be sure it will. Unlike most reporters, I have no hidden agenda. Victor: Good! Please give my best to your parents next time you speak to them. Brady: I’ll walk you to the elevator, Abby. Brady: I had a really good time the other night. Abby: So did I. Brady: How about dinner and a movie this Saturday? Abby: I’ll look forward to it. Brady: Great, I’ll pick you up at 7:00. [They kiss.] [As Philip walks back to his office, he sees Brady and Abby kissing. Meanwhile, his office phone is ringing. He answers it.] Philip: Kiriakis. Melanie: Hi Philip, it’s Melanie. Philip: What do you want, Melanie? Melanie: I was thinking that I may have been a little hasty in leaving Titan. Philip: Is that right? Melanie: Yeah, I was hoping maybe I could come back. Philip: Sorry, your position has been filled. Melanie: Um, I see. Well, I actually have a proposition for you. Could we meet to talk about it? I promise to make it worth your while. Philip: Sounds like it could be interesting. Melanie: It is. Could we meet at Tuscany’s? Maybe tonight? Philip: Let me check my calendar. It looks like I’m open, so how about 6:30? Melanie: Perfect! [Philip hangs up the phone and logs onto his computer. He sees nine unread messages, eight are from Ken Corday and one is from Kate. He decides to read the message from his mother first. It’s a very short message, consisting of only ten words.] Kate’s Email: Philip, I want you to be happy. Follow your heart. [Brady enters.] Brady: So, what do you think? Philip: About what? Brady: About Abby! Philip: Isn’t she a little young for you? Brady: No. You just think that because of SORAS. Philip: SORAS? There's that word again! Could someone please tell me what that means? Brady: Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome. In reality, both Abby and me were born in 1992, three years before you were born, Uncle Phil. Philip: So you’re saying that I’m really 14 and you and Abby are 17? Brady: Exactly. Philip: In that case, I’d say you and Abby are perfect for each other. Brady: I've been meaning to ask you how Lucas is doing. Philip: I hear he’s doing better, but I haven’t spoken to him lately. Brady: What about Chloe? Have you spoken to her? Philip: Not really. Brady: You know, she told me what happened. Philip: What do you mean? Brady: The reason she left Lucas at the altar. Turns out she was in love with someone else and Sami found out about it. See, Sami wanted Lucas back, so just before the ceremony, she threatened to expose Chloe and her lover if Chloe went through with the wedding. Philip: Hmmm. Sami. Brady: Sami never changes. Say, Lucas doesn’t know about Sami’s role in all this, and I don’t think we should say anything. He’s been through enough. Philip: Trust me, I won’t say anything. Brady: I’m still trying to figure out who the other guy is that Chloe’s in love with. I have a hunch YOU know who it is though. Am I right, Philip? Philip: Why are you asking ME? Brady: Oh, brother. Forget it. Maybe I’ll find out for sure when we’re in France. Philip: Who’s “we”? Brady: Me and Chloe. She got a job with the opera company there, so we’re likely to see each other now and then. You really ARE out of the loop, aren’t you? Philip: I’ve just been keeping my nose to the grindstone lately. Trying to stay out of trouble. Brady: All work and no play makes Philip a dull boy. Philip: You know, Brady, you’re right. I HAVE turned into a dull boy. I need to get back in touch with my inner happy-go-lucky self. Brady: Let’s not get carried away. I don’t think you HAVE a happy-go-lucky side. Philip: Well it’s time I got one. [Gets up and grabs his coat.] Brady: Where are you going? Philip: It just so happens I have a date tonight. See you tomorrow. To be continued….

THE BRADY PUB, before hours [Nicole is wiping down the tables before the breakfast rush. She starts singing.] Nicole: Once upon a time there was a tavern Where we used to raise a glass or two Remember how we laughed away the hours And dreamed of all the great things we would do... Those were the DAYS my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la... Max: I didn’t know you liked oldies. Nicole: There’s a lot you don’t know about me. I like old music, old movies. Ooh, I especially love the Film Noir genre. Max: Seems like I have a lot to learn about you. Nicole: I’ll be happy to teach you. Max: You know, I really appreciate you helping out here at the Pub while Pete’s on vacation. I want to pay you for this. Nicole: I already told you that you don’t have to pay me. I’m more than happy to help my boyfriend. [Kisses Max] [Stephanie and EJ enter the Pub and go sit at a table.] Max [to Nicole]: I’ll flip you for it. Nicole: It’s okay. I can handle it. Max: Pssst. I hear he’s a lousy tipper. [Nicole goes over to their table] Nicole: What can I get for you? EJ [stifling a laugh]: How about a dust mop? Nicole: Laugh all you want, I don’t care. At least I’m doing something honest and decent. EJ: That’s a change of pace for you. Stephanie: EJ! Be nice. Nicole, I’d like a western omelet and a cup of coffee please. EJ: I’ll have ... Nicole: ...Scrambled eggs over easy, hash browns, and black coffee. EJ: Yes. Thank you. Nicole: Be right back with your coffee. [Nicole stops at the jukebox and presses the “play random disc” button. Click here to LISTEN to the song that starts playing: www.imeem.com/eyndyel/music/H...-chance-again/ ] Stephanie: Is this weird for you, EJ? EJ: A bit ... and I feel bad about what I said to her. I should apologize. Stephanie: I think you should. Meanwhile, I’ll go say hello to Max. EJ: Nicole, I apologize for the things I said to you back there. Nicole: That’s fine. I’m sure I deserved every word of it. EJ: I’m actually quite impressed with what you’re doing... helping out at the Pub. And dating Max with no obvious ulterior motives? Nicole: I’ve learned my lessons. I’m through lying and scheming to get what I want. Because, come to think of it, I never do get what I want by lying and scheming. Stephanie: How’s it going, Mr. Manager? Max: Couldn’t be better. How’s your new job? Stephanie: It’s fabulous. No more unpaid internships, now that I’m a college graduate. I take home an actual paycheck. Max: Remind me where you work now? Stephanie: I’m a marketing assistant at TDA. Max: What’s that? Stephanie: It’s the ad agency that Tony and Anna Dimera own. Max: Ah, Dimera. Now I see the connection. Your boyfriend there helped you get the job. Stephanie: It doesn’t hurt to know the right people. Max: Right people? The Dimeras? You’re playing with fire again, girl. Stephanie: I don’t think it’s any of your business. Max: Not until you make it my business. Stephanie: What’s that supposed to mean? Max: Remember me? I’m the guy who picked up the pieces in Monte Carlo after EJ broke your heart the first time. Stephanie: I don’t care to discuss that with you. EJ: If only you had told me you lost the baby when it happened instead of hiding it and trying to purchase a baby and fool me into thinking it was ours. Nicole: I wish I HAD told you. Lying about that was the biggest mistake of my life. Instead of getting everything, I lost everything. And I’ll always regret it. EJ: I wish you had had more faith in our love... more faith in me. I would have stood by you, Nicole. Nicole: You would have? EJ: Of course. I loved you. I still do. Nicole: EJ, I love you too. Do you think we could… EJ: If you promise me that you will be honest with me and have faith in me, I believe we could try it again. Nicole: Really? Oh, EJ, yes, I promise. [They kiss.] I will never let you down again. You’ll see. You won’t be sorry for giving me another chance. Thank you, thank you. Max: Fine. Don’t discuss it. And don’t come crying to me when he dumps you this time. Stephanie: Don’t worry, I won’t. Max: This is kind of fun, isn’t it? Stephanie: You mean the two of us fighting? Max: Just like old times. Stephanie: Just like an old married couple. Max: Tell the truth, Steph. You miss me, don’t you? Stephanie: You’re the only one who “gets” me, Max. Max: Ditto. Stephanie [pointing to Nicole and EJ]: By the way, it looks like you lost your new waitress. Max: C’est la vie. Stephanie: Ooh, I love it when you speak French. [They kiss.] [Meanwhile, Chelsea and Melanie have arrived and are seated at a table in the Pub.] Chelsea: Look how happy everyone is. Melanie: I know, they’re making me sick. Did I tell you I’m giving up on men? Chelsea: Why, what happened NOW? Melanie: I thought that I might have a shot with Philip now that Stephanie is out of the picture. Chelsea: And? Melanie: He made it painfully clear that there was no possibility of us ever being anything more than business acquaintances. Chelsea: I think I’ll give up men too. [Melanie leans across the table and kisses Chelsea on the lips.] Chelsea: What do you think you’re doing? Melanie: I don’t know. I figured if we’re giving up on men, we may as well try something completely different. Are you game? Chelsea: I never thought about it before. But, why not? Sure, I’m game. To be continued….

TITAN'S EXECUTIVE OFFICES [Readers, please click here to LISTEN to the music that’s being piped in through Titan’s Muzak system: www.imeem.com/people/5vJy0U/m...inatra-my-way/ ] Victor: Well, that’s everything. Philip: Don’t worry about Titan while you’re gone. We’ll be fine. Brady: Philip is right. You just go and have a great time on your trip, Grandfather. Victor: Thank you, Brady. Good luck in France, and remember what we talked about. Brady: I will. Make sure you call me when you and Caroline get to Paris. Victor: I certainly will. You know I’m always a phone call away if you need anything. Brady: I know. [Embraces Victor and exits.] Victor: That goes for you too, Philip. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call. Philip: I will. And that works both ways. Victor: I know you’ll do fine, son. You’ll finally be able to do things your own way. Philip: True, but that’s because I learned from the best. Victor: Perhaps, but you have a good head on your shoulders. Philip: Come again? For a second I thought I heard you say I have a good head on my shoulders. Hell must be freezing over. Victor [laughs]: I know I’ve been hard on you, son ... harder than you deserve, but that’s only because I knew you had more potential. I was right too. I’ve watched you mature and make excellent decisions lately. Like bringing Nick Fallon in. That was a brilliant move. By the way, have you gotten caught up on your emails? Philip: You mean, did I read the Corday emails? Yes. I knew the end was near. I guess I was just putting off the inevitable. Now I have only three days to wrap up my storyline. Victor: Well, making peace with your father is a good start. In all candor, Philip, I have the utmost faith in you. I know you and Titan will be a great success. Philip: I appreciate that, Dad. I know we’ve had a complicated relationship over the years and we haven’t always seen eye to eye, but I’m … really going to miss you. Victor: Thank you, Philip. That means a lot to me. I’ll miss you too, son. Philip: Are you flying out tonight? Victor: There’s been a slight change of plans. We’re leaving the day after tomorrow. Caroline didn’t want to miss Steve and Kayla’s wedding. I assume you’re not going? Philip: No. Stephanie will be there, and the last time I saw her, she told me to go to hell. Victor: Too bad things didn’t work out for the two of you. I think she would have been a good partner for you, both personally and professionally. Maybe you should give it another try. Philip: We’ll see. You never know. Victor: I’d like to see your personal life going as well as your professional life, Philip. You need to find a good woman and settle down. I found the right woman years ago, but I made the mistake of not holding onto her. If you find the right woman, Philip, don’t let her get away. Philip: Wow, that’s a 180. I thought you said to “never trust a woman.” Victor: Well, perhaps I was wrong about that. Philip: Victor Kiriakis, wrong? Nah, I don’t believe that. Can I make an observation? Victor: Certainly. Philip: Caroline has had an amazing affect on you. She’s brought out a ... a side of you I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. Victor: Ah yes, the kinder, gentler Victor Kiriakis. Philip: Well, you seem happy. Victor: I am happy, son. And I want the same for you. Philip: Thanks, Dad. [They embrace. Then Victor goes back to his office to get his things. Philip is walking back to his own office when he sees Max get off the elevator.] Philip: Max, what are you doing here? Max: Looking for you. Philip: Why? What’s up? Max: Remember when I told you that if you hurt Stephanie, I’d beat the crap out of you? Well, this is for Stephanie. [He punches Philip in the face and knocks him to the floor. Max pulls him up by the collar.] And remember when I told you that if you hurt Melanie, I’d beat the crap out of you? Well, this one’s for Melanie. [Punches Philip again as Victor comes out of his office.] Victor: Max! What the hell are you doing? [Victor helps Philip up.] Max: The honorable thing. Victor: Have you taken leave of your senses? What would your mother say? Max: My mother would say she’s ashamed of me. But Stephanie’s grandmother would say he got what he deserves. To be continued....
