Love how Philip is angry at Brady. Saying he ruined everything. Sounds like he really wants to be with Chloe and not Belle. So great how Belle feels bad about what she did to Philip. Thanks for the chapter.

Funny how when Philip says "This is the last place on Earth I want to be" I hear "This is the ONLY place on Earth I want to be," Huh, isn't that strange?

Also, this story reminds me why I disliked Belle so much. She's as bad as Sami. UGH!!!

9:15 p.m.

HOUSE IN THE WOODS

Chloe: What’s with you, Philip? Why do you have a chip on your shoulder?
Philip: Because.
Chloe: Oh brother. Because what?
Philip: Because ... being stranded here like this with you ... it’s the last place on earth I want to be.
Tears sprang to Chloe’s eyes without her even being aware of it. Philip looked at her and immediately regretted what he’d said.
Philip: I’m ... I’m sorry Chloe. I didn’t mean that.
Chloe: Yes, you did. People tend to say how they really feel when they’re angry.
Philip: Yeah, but I’m not angry at you. I’m angry at the situation.
Chloe: Which we wouldn’t be in if I didn’t crash the car. You know, all these years, I thought of you as a friend. Even if we hardly ever saw each other or spoke, I thought we had a connection that was unbreakable. Now I know I was wrong. You hate me.
Philip: I don’t hate you. That’s ridiculous.
Chloe: I feel like I don’t even know you anymore. You’ve changed. You never used to have such hard edges.
Philip: I grew up.
Uncomfortable with the way the conversation is going, Philip got up and limped back to the kitchen area.
Chloe: What are you looking for now?
Philip: A drink. I thought I saw some wine in one of the cabinets. Here it is!
Chloe: Red or white?
Philip: Red. White would need to be chilled. But beggers can’t be choosers. Ha! Hey look at this.
Chloe: What’s so funny?
Philip: The date. 2002.
Chloe: Good year?
Philip: For graduating high school, yes. As far as vintage goes, we’re about to find out.
He took a couple of drinking glasses out of the cabinet and balanced them and the bottle as he hobbled back over to the fireplace.
Chloe: Be careful.
Philip reached the fireplace and handed Chloe the glasses as he sat back down on the floor. He poured them both some wine.
Chloe: No, it’s more than that.
Philip: What’s more than that?
Chloe: Your hard edges.
Philip: I thought we were finished talking about that.
Chloe: Nope. Just started.
Philip: Okay. Maybe you’re right. I guess life took me in a direction I didn’t expect.
Chloe: Like what?
Philip contemplated Chloe’s question for a long minute and shrugged.
Philip: The war. Losing a leg. Being rejected. Having to do things in business I never thought I’d do.
Chloe: That’s it! That’s what’s different. You’re more like your father now.
Philip: You might mean that as an insult, but I take it as a compliment. So thank you.
Chloe: I didn’t mean it as an insult. In fact, Brady’s more like Victor too. He has more hard edges than he used to.
Philip: I’ve noticed that.
Chloe: Oh that’s right. You see him fairly often. He’s in Salem every other month for board meetings.
Philip: You said something about that last night. Does that bother you? I mean when he goes away.
Chloe: Not really. I’m used to his absence.
Philip: What do you mean?
Chloe: Nothing.
Philip: I get the feeling you’re not just talking about business trips. Is everything okay with you and Brady?
Chloe looked at Philip and she was touched by the look of concern in his eyes.
Chloe: Can I tell you something?

Philip: Is everything okay with you and Brady?
Chloe looked at Philip and she was touched by the look of concern in his eyes.
Chloe: Can I tell you something?
Philip: Of course.
Chloe: Nevermind.
Philip: Chloe. Come on. What is it?
Chloe: Brady doesn’t ...
Philip: Brady doesn’t ...?
Chloe: He doesn’t always ... come home.
Philip leveled his eyes at Chloe, trying to figure out what she means.
Philip: You mean after work?
Chloe: Yes. After work. After anything.
Philip: Why not?
Chloe: I ... I shouldn’t be talking to you about this. You work for Titan too.
He reached out and covered her hand with his to reassure her.
Philip: It’s okay Chloe. You can tell me anything. I won’t tell anyone else. What happens in this cabin stays in this cabin.
Chloe nodded and took a deep breath.
Chloe: I think Brady ... is ... doing drugs.
Philip’s eyes widened, but he tried not to look too surprised.
Philip: You think he’s ....
Chloe: I know it for a fact. I’ve seen it. I’ve confronted him.
Philip: What did he say? Did he deny it?
Chloe: Hard to deny it when you have a straw up your nose.
Philip: Oh god. Wow. I’m really sorry. Have you suggested he get help?
Chloe: Well, what do you think? Of course I have.
Philip: Is there anything I can do? Or maybe Belle. She’s his sister and she might be able to ...
Chloe: To what? To talk some sense into him? To do what I couldn’t do? Because she’s little miss perfect and she can do no wrong?
Philip stared at Chloe in shock.
Philip: Chloe, I didn’t mean it that way. I was just trying to help.
Chloe: I know. I know. I didn’t mean it either. Belle is my friend. She’s great. I don’t know why I said that. Maybe I’m jealous because ...
Chloe closed her eyes and wished she could take the last five minutes back.
Philip: You’re jealous of Belle? You’re a glamorous opera singer who lives in Europe. Why would you be jealous of anyone?
Chloe: Sometimes the grass looks greener on other people’s lawns. I always thought Belle had the perfect life. She’s the perfect friend, the perfect sister, the perfect wi ... You know something, I just don’t know if I feel comfortable telling her about Brady. Brady would be so angry if he knew I was even telling you about it.
Philip: Chloe, can I ask you something?
Chloe: I guess.
Philip: Is Brady abusive? Sometimes addicts ....
Chloe: He’s not an addict!
Philip: But you just said ...
Chloe: Let’s change the subject.
Philip: Okay. Fine. What do you want to talk about?
Chloe: Anything. I don’t care.
Philip: How about those Cubs?
Chloe: I don’t follow American sports. ... Do you ... do you and Belle ever go to games together?
Philip: Yeah, we have. Baseball. Basketball.
Chloe: I remember when you used to play those sports in high school.
Philip: Good times.
Chloe: You were such an incredible athlete.
Philip: Those days are over. Harder to run when you only have one good leg. Well, before today, I used to have one good one. I guess I’ll just have to live vicariously through my kids someday.
Chloe shifts positions, uncomfortably.
Chloe: Do you want kids, Philip?
Philip: Definitely. In fact, Belle and I were just talking about it last night.
Chloe: Last night?
Philip: Yeah, why? Why did you sound so surprised?
Chloe: No reason. I ... so things are good with you and Belle?
Philip: Absolutely. We’re very happy together. Like you said, she’s perfect. She’s my dream girl.

I have totally hated they made Brady a drug addict and screwed up his marriage... The real Brady would never have done that, he was madly in love with her. GGGRRR!!!
