Sure didn't take Belle and Shawn long to get busy. My guess is it won't take Chloe and Philip that much longer - even with a broken leg.

8:15 p.m.

THE WOODS

Philip: We need to call for help. I don’t have my phone.
Chloe: I’ve got mine. It’s in my purse. Here, rest against the car for a minute.
Chloe trudged back around to the driver’s side to get her purse. Meanwhile Philip surveyed the surroundings. She took out her phone and switched it on.
Chloe: Oh god. No signal.
Philip: Probably because of the storm.
Chloe: What are we going to do?
Philip: We need to take shelter.
Chloe: In the car?
Philip: Not if we can help it.
Chloe: Philip, I’m freezing.
Philip: Come here. Check this out.
He motioned with his chin toward a clearing at the foot of the hill.
Chloe: It’s a house. I hope they’re friendly.
Philip: I hope they have a phone.
Chloe: I hope they’ll let us in.
Philip: And let us stay until someone can come get us.
Chloe: Here, put your arm around me.
Philip: Let me know if I’m leaning on you too hard.
Chloe: You’re fine.
Philip: Ow. I know you like to speed, but let’s go slow.
Chloe: On foot, in 2 feet of snow, with you injured ... I’m pretty sure we won’t be speeding.
Philip: It’s getting hard to see.
Chloe reached into her purse with her free hand and pulled out a little flashlight attached to a keychain.
Chloe: Is this better?
Philip: Yeah. Still carrying your whole life in your handbag, huh?
Chloe: This is one time you should be grateful.
Philip: Oh I am.
Philip leaned on Chloe and she held him up as best she could as they made their way gingerly down the hill to the house. It was the only house in sight, possibly because visibility was poor. The snow continued to come down, sometimes straight, sometimes sideways when the wind whipped up. It nearly knocked them over a few times and slowed their progress toward their destination.

About 100 yards from the house, Chloe lost her footing and fell, pulling Philip down with her. They slid down the hill a ways.
Chloe: Oh my god, Philip, are you okay?
Philip laughed.
Philip: That’s one way to get there faster. Help me up.
It took a couple tries, but they got to their feet and finally made it to the single story cottage. They rang the doorbell. When no one answered, they rang again. Then knocked. Then called out.
Philip: Anybody home?
Chloe: Hello? ... I’ll go check around back. Wait here.
Philip: Be careful.


SALEM INN HOTEL ROOM

Shawn and Belle were snuggled together in the afterglow.
Shawn: Mmm, this was a great idea you had.
Belle: Shawn, I really do need to talk to you.
She turned to face him.
Belle: I’m pregnant.
Shawn: Belle! Honey, is the baby mine? Well of course it is. You wouldn’t be telling me otherwise.
Belle: Shawn, Shawn, Shawn, wait. Before you get excited, I ... I don’t know if the baby is yours or Philip’s.
Shawn: Then we have to do a test.
Belle: It’s too early now. But I just had to tell you.
Shawn: Does Philip know?
Belle: No, not yet.
Shawn: If you told me first, you must feel sure that the baby is mine.

So glad they were able to make it to the house. I hope they get in soon. They certainly didn't dress for this since they left from the reunion.

Glad to see Shawn so excited about Belle's pregnancy.

Why is it that I expect Philip and Chloe to be together, while, at the same time, I'm shaking my finger at Belle for cheating on her husband?

Boy I am freezing now. I could just picture Philip and Chloe losing their footing and sliding down the hill. Glad they made it to the house. Can't understand why Shawn would be so excited about the baby. If it is his he won't be able to say anything about it. Thanks for the chapter Kpatch.

8:30 p.m.

HOUSE IN THE WOODS

A few minutes later, Philip heard noises inside the house and heard the front door being unlocked.
Philip: Thank god.
The door opened and Chloe stood in the entranceway, startling Philip.
Philip: What? How did you get in?
Chloe: The back door was unlocked. Quick, come inside.
She helped him inside.
Philip: It doesn’t look like anyone lives here.
Chloe: I know. I tried the light switches and ... nothing.
Philip: I guess a dark deserted cabin is better than none. Did you see a phone with your little flashlight?
Chloe: I’ll look. Here. Here’s a sofa. Sit here.
Philip: Yes ma’am. Keep talking to me.
Chloe: What?
Philip: While you’re looking in the other rooms. Keep talking so I know you’re okay.
Chloe [from another room]: I didn’t think you cared.
Philip: I don’t. But you’re all I’ve got.
Chloe gave Philip a play-by-play as she walked through the house.
Chloe: This is a bedroom. No phone in here, but there’s a phone jack.
Philip: See if you can find a radio too.
Chloe: Why? Do you want music?
Philip: Just keep looking.
Chloe: Bathroom.
Philip: Indoor plumbing. That’s good.
Chloe: Another bedroom. Nope. Nothing in here.
Philip: Is there a kitchen?
Chloe came back into the front room and shone the flashlight where she was standing, about 50 feet away from Philip.
Chloe: This is the kitchen. No fridge. But here’s a pantry.
She went over to the sink and turned on the faucet.
Chloe: Running water! Thank God.
Philip: Are there any canned foods?
Chloe: You’re hungry?
Philip: A little, but we might be here a while. Jeez, Belle’s gonna freak out.
Chloe: I know. Brady too. I wonder how long it will take him to realize I’m not coming for him.


SALEM INN HOTEL ROOM

Shawn: If you told me first, you must feel sure that the baby is mine.
Belle: I told you first because you know that there’s a 50/50 chance it’s yours. Philip doesn’t know that. He would assume the baby is his, and I don’t want to tell him unless I’m 100% sure. I wouldn’t want to break his heart if the baby isn’t his.
Shawn: That’s one of the things I love about you. How thoughtful you are.
Belle: You can’t say anything, Shawn, not to anyone.
Shawn: If this baby turns out to be mine, I’m telling everyone. No way I’m gonna let people think the baby is Philip’s.
Belle: I understand how you feel, but we have to be smart about this.
Shawn: Belle, I love you. I want to marry you, baby or no baby. All you have to do is say the word. Divorce Philip and marry me.
Belle: If only things were that simple.
