Whew! Just spent like the last two hours reading this whole thing. Love it! And now I have to wait until tomorrow to find out the answer to that question. Can't wait.

Wow. What an ending. Can;t wait for Chloe's answer. Love that she was watching Philip sleep and did not even realize it. Kpatch is not only doing cliffhangers on Fridays they are happening in the middle of the week. It is Wednesday I am ready for the next chapter.

3:00 a.m.

HOUSE IN THE WOODS

Philip: Truth or dare?
Chloe: Um. I don’t think I have a choice. Truth.
Philip: This is something I’ve wanted to know for a long time. ... Why ... why did you choose Brady over me?
Chloe shook her head and slid her hand out of Philip’s grasp.
Chloe: You don’t want to know.
Philip: Apparently I do.
Chloe: I don’t want to tell you.
Philip: You have to. There are rules, you know. Don’t make me enforce them.
Chloe smiled broadly.
Philip: Ha! Got you to smile.
Chloe: Why is this important? I mean, why now?
Philip: Because it is. Because, I need to find ... peace. You were a huge part of my youth, Chloe. You know that. I was closer to you than to anyone. You were everything to me. And even as an adult, I can’t look back at those years without ... without pain ... without feeling angry at you.
Chloe: You’re angry with me?
Philip: I guess “anger” is a little strong. But I don’t want to feel that way about you anymore. And after spending tonight with you, I can see you’re still the same person I cared so much about back then. I just want to understand.
Chloe: I’m sorry Philip. I know I hurt you. But I didn’t know it still hurt.
Philip: It does. Not all the time. But sometimes. And I wish it didn’t.
He didn’t know why, but he took her hand again and brought it to his lips and kissed it.
Philip: Can you make it stop? Can you make it stop hurting?
Chloe’s heart fluttered and she felt her eyes get watery.
Chloe: I don’t know what to say.
Philip: Tell me. Just tell me why you chose Brady.
Chloe took a deep breath.
Chloe: It’s hard to explain, Philip. You and Brady are so different from one another. If it weren’t for you, I might have stayed “ghoul girl” all through high school. You changed my life in so many ways. You’re the one who opened up my heart, and ...
Philip: And?
Chloe: And ... you were the first person I ever really loved.
Philip: I was?
Chloe nodded.
Philip: You never told me that. I mean, I was pretty sure you did, even though you never came out and said so. You told me it was hard for you to express how you felt and I accepted that. Then, when you wound up with Brady, I figured I was wrong, that you really never did love me.
Chloe: Well I did.
Philip: Then why? What happened? Was it because of the terrible things I said to you at the last Last Blast dance?
Chloe: Partly, but ... Philip, I don’t want to make things worse.
Philip: It was a long time ago. I can handle it.
Chloe bit her lower lip and then blurted it out.
Chloe: Okay. I felt like I was being smothered.
Philip: Smothered?
Chloe nodded.
Chloe: You were always around me. You were always showing up at my doorstep ...
Philip: I thought you liked that.
Chloe: ... showing up at my classes, at my locker, when I was out with friends.
Philip: When you love someone, you want to be with them all the time.
Chloe: But I wasn’t like other people. Maybe it was because of the way I grew up, but I wasn’t used to being around people all the time. I needed space. I needed some independence.
Philip: Why didn’t you just tell me?
Chloe: I did. Lots of times. But you either didn’t hear me or you didn’t want to hear me.
Philip: Oh.
Chloe: I just needed to grow up and become my own person.
Philip: And I was hindering you.
Chloe: You scared me, Philip. It was overwhelming.
Philip: Hmmm.
Chloe: Maybe it’s time to change the subject.
Philip: To what?
Chloe: I don’t know. What do you think they’re doing at the reunion right now?
Philip looked at his wrist watch.
Philip: It’s 3 in the morning. If anyone is still there, they’re probably slow-dancing.
Chloe: Slow dancing? To what song?
Philip: I don’t know. Why don’t you dance with me and find out?

Being a Broe fan, this story is tough for me, but you handled her question well. Chloe & Brady were very much in love and I Hate how the show made that go away and made him a drug addict. That would not have happened otherwise.
Thank you kpatch, for not degrading their relationship too much...(even though Brady would never had an affair either)

But since you made him an adulterer, then it's ok to have them together, but after they leave their spouses. so they can be totally free to be together.

Thank you SG. I know this is tough for you as a Broe, and I appreciate you reading. Believe it or not, I was thinking about you as I wrote the story.

The show has never explored what happened in Vienna and how the drug abuse affected Brady and Chloe’s relationship, but I’m sure it wasn’t pretty, and it was the thing that ultimately led to the end of their marriage.

As for this chapter, did you notice that Chloe never really answered Philip’s question? Seems like she was avoiding getting too deep into the subject. She didn’t tell him why she chose Brady, just why she felt the need to end it with Philip.

Question for all readers -- Just curious. As you read the story, which actor do you visualize as Brady?

Funny, I visualize him as Eric..It's been too long since Kyle left for me. Nadia also looks good chemistry-wise with Eric.

I'm picturing a younger, slightly less buff Eric. Not quite Kyle, but not exactly the same Brady we see today.
