from daytime royalty daytimeroyaltyonline.com/topic/8724077/1/Joe Mascolo On His ReturnJoe Mascolo, who returns to Days on August 22nd, says it was always the plan for him to come back to the show. However, during his short break, Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas, Jr. were replaced by Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell. Mascolo admits that Darrell and Marlene's story ideas were "not incredible" but "they wanted to tell Stefano's story in a certain way, so we did." Mascolo is happy that Gary Tomlin was brought back to write the show. Shares the actor, “I like his insights." Mascolo says he doesn't know where his story is going because he hasn't been back for long, but he has an idea what Gary might be aiming for based on conversations he had with him last year. Mascolo shares that he was very disappointed Stefano wasn't with Lexie when she died, but the writers wrote it so Stefano died first which made it impossible for him and Lexie to share a proper goodbye. "That's the way they were writing it," shares the actor. "Which was too bad." Mascolo says he's excited to have Eileen Davidson back on the show. He says they did some crazy things before and it will be interesting to have her back in the mix. To read the full article, pick up the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, on stands now!

Thanks Karebr. I'm hoping they will fix the EJ paternity nonsense.

I feel terrible that Joe wasn't there to have an onscreen goodbye with Renee. I'm confident that they had one off screen, but still. Joe definitely got screwed.

TFP karebr13! ITA that Joe got screwed with the way they wrote him off and then him not being able to be there to say goodbye to Renee, just terrible! Plus, not being EJ's father seriously, I hate when writers retcon stuff sometimes that it's really tring to put a square peg into a circle. It just doesn't work.
