:)This is one big question....Since Molly is leaving, it doesn't mean they are going to abandon Melanie....My feeling is, she will be replaced...My hope would be, the very first Stephanie....I forgot who played her, but she was an amazing actress...Not only is she a Redhead, sorry I am partial and I guess you know why, but she would certaily fit the bill to help fill Molly's Shoes.....Quirky and fun, but dramatically talented...  I certainly hope this is the case, because she would make a good coupling for Chad....I feel the fans of Chad and Melanie would be satisfied if this happened....Of course, it is just my opinion...What do you think? redcurlylocs... |

That was Shayna Rose who has joined the comedy group Miss Funny which also was joined by Rachel Melvin (ex-Chelsea)...That would be an interesting choice.. Keeping Mel a redhead would still match with Maggie.
I wonder what Days peeps have in mind though.

I don't think the will recast Melanie any time soon, if at all. There are lots of other characters that they could recast and just don't. Look how long it took for them to recast Brady.

For no more of a storyline than what they have Melanie for right now, just letting her stay gone for a while is fine with me. Then if they decide to give Melanie another good storyline and if Molly isn't available, I might be ok with a recast. I love Molly's chemistry with John (Victor) when they are on screen together so I'm not sure I would want someone else to fill the "Melanie" spot.

If not a new Melanie then they need a new "Mel" Type. All the other young women on the show are Flat flat flat. There has to be someone around with spunk and personality who is willing to take chances and make mistakes. They don't have anyone compelling without Melanie for that type of character.
They also need a Philip type...but that is for another thread.
Hopefully Tomlin/Whitesell will rectify these missing pieces.

I would be surprised if they recast Melanie right away. Until the kidnapping story she hadn't been doing much of anything. I can see her going to Europe to be with Carly or Nicholas. That way they can always bring her back down the road.
I find most of the college kids to be boring and bland. They definitely need to give them a personality or bring in someone more interesting to liven them up.

Tomlin put an end to that not using Melanie crap right away. It was insane how the last writers backburnered one of the strongest actresses they had. Did the same to Arianne...wth? You don't bench your best players...the ones that can handle any emotion, have great chem with a wide variety of cast members...
We have to remember Tomlin's regime created her character. I don't think he'd recast right away either...though I think they should just to help the younger demographic out. But I think he would have had plenty of work for Melanie if Molly had renewed.

I would hate to see Melanie recast. I don't think any actress could fill her shoes. She just has this spunk about her that no other actress has

I'm with Slyn in thinking they will need a Melanie-type. The old Melanie, not the one she became, but I predict it will be several months before they do it.

Interesting comments....I still think though, since Melanie is not being, KILLED-OFF, Shayna Rose, and thank you sportsgirl for the info, still fits the bill....Absolutely, in my opinion, Melanie has to be replaced.....There is just tooooooooooooo much story to tell with her.....redcurlylocs

I don't think that TPTB have any plans to recast Melanie. In fact now that Nick is back on the show I wouldn't be surprised if they don't try to bring Rachel Melvin back as Chelsea or recast Chelsea to fill the Melanie void. Chelsea and Melanie are similiar type characters and Chelsea was a lot more popular so it would make more sense to bring Chelsea back instead of Melanie. Also I could see Stephanie being recasted before Melanie so that Kayla could have her daughter back in Salem.
It is no secret on this board that I have never been a Melanie fan and I really am glad that the character is leaving and I am not going to miss seeing her on my screen at all. I like Molly but ever since TPTB started making Melanie into a young heroine and putting her into the role that should have been Stephanie's I have despised the character of Melanie. The worst thing TPTB ever did was make her into Daniel and Carly's daughter. She was far more interesting to watch when she was Trent's daughter with the troubled past that would scheme to get what she wanted. As soon as she finally won Philip's affection and married him she became one of the most boring and irritating characters to ever be on Days.

Most people didn't like Melanie when she first came on, and then grew to like her as they redeemed the character. I was the opposite, I loved Melanie as the young adult schemer and hated her as the heroin. I think Molly has to much personality and spunk to be crying over which man to chose or crying over a cheating husband. Melanie should have been the character that was reeking havoc over Salem and causing the drama. Kind of like a cross between Sami and Nicole with a side of comic relief. |
