Nathan said his goodbyes to Jen, who gave him a pic of Alice and Tom and told him to go be another Tom Horton.....(yeah, right... )....they talked about how wonderful he is and will be, yadda, yadda, yadda....Jennifer left, Nathan looks at the pic, sets it down, picks up Tom's doctor bag that Maggie (I think it was Maggie) gave him and left the room......very touching.... Goodbye you idiot...!!!!

You make it sound so poignant PA. Gotta go watch it. You know it occurs to me that Nathan lost his very first patient at Salem UH and his last patient at Salem UH. Didn't Johns Hopkins ask to see his won/loss record?

I felt he put the picture back because that is where it belongs. He doesn't need the picture as he has the bag. I thought it was sad as he had promise as a Horton but he never got a good s/l... Today he was great backing up & helping Carly, showing he cared.

But it was awkward with him and Carly given the whole Melanie situation. It was a quiet understated sendoff. There was more fanfare when I left my job to move to a new town.

First thing that I noticed is he put the picture of Alice and Tom on the table, but also left his coat there laid over the couch too. He walked up the stairs. I had to laugh at that...another person leaving to head upstairs or out for milk, never to be seen again! lOL

LOL ghoulgirl. I hadn't thought about the significance of "upstairs." MrsM, weren't you invited to Nathan's going away party? Invitation must have gotten lost in the mail. I did feel a wee tug of emotion when Nathan stopped on the staircase landing and smiled. It was like Mark the actor saying goodbye to the viewers. Good luck Mark.

What I thought about the scene, was that evidently the shirts at Days know the significance of the Horton family to the show...it's just too bad it's only when a Horton is leaving......

I, too, neglected to realize the significance of him going "upstairs" but now that GG said it, I'm cracking up over here. How many chacters must be lost to the dastardly "upstairs" before something is done?!?

They're probably all up there in a smoke filled room, eating pizza delivery and chinese take out and watching reruns of McCloud........I can hear them when Nathan comes in "shut the door"....!!!

Aw, he wasn't that bad. I really do think Mark had more potential in the role than the writers gave him. Then they hurriedly tried to make him a crazed person for Melanie, then redeemable, then gone. Poor writing through and through.
I'd like to think that my version of Nathan Horton (the potential) is much better than what we saw, and deep down he's a nice guy at Johns Hopkins and he'll grow up there. If he ever comes back to Salem, he'll follow in the Horton footsteps and be more like Mike and Tom and other Hortons before him (and by other Hortons I don't mean the other one that Stephanie dated that I won't mention)

I'll be honest and say that for the first little bit, when he first came on the show,I didn't mind him.I started disliking him when he met Mel and started making all kinds of assumptions about her and what she supposedly did to "poor cousin Nick".I did like that scene with Maggie when she set him straight about what Nick had done to HER.The look on his face when he realized he screwed up was priceless, yet in the next breath, when he saw her with Steph's pills,he was right back to assuming he knew it all.I've hated him ever since. It didn't help that he played both women against eachother.Nor did his attitude toward Philip from day one...ok...you get the point, lol.
