For writers and readers - love scenes in stories - graphic or otherwise. Do you think they enhance a story or detract from it? I will admit that of late I skip most detailed love scenes to get back to the good part..aka the story. But all the attention that 50 Shades is getting makes me ponder, what I sorta already knew, people like smut (or at least extreme heat). So as a writer that doesn't particularly enjoy reading the graphic love scenes, I struggle with whether or not to include them in my work. Is it okay to be a "Fade to black" type writer in these times or do you have to get graphic to get read? Oh to add even more relevance to this topic....they are adding love scenes to classics... ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/70462850.html

The idea of adding sex scenes to classics is so totally wrong. Leave them alone!!! I even hated they took a specific word out of Huckleberry Finn. People need to realize when the book takes place and such.
As for reading about it, I read 50 shades of gray (the whole trilogy) and I actually got tired of the sex near the end of Book one..I would have preferred more story in its place. because the story behind all that sex was really good.
In a fanfic of course the sex is more imagination as it can't get too graphic. So it doesn't bother me there, but then again it's the story I am more interested in. Sometimes a little sex is needed to help enhance a relationship.

This one is kind of a tough one. It really just depends on the book and the topic at hand. Is it a story that thrives on the details of that intimacy? I've not read 50 Shades, but from what I've heard about it, when I do read it, I expect very explicit details - not just teasing to what may or may not happen.
Also it depends on the writer's abilities to take you INTO the story. To feel what the characters are feeling and to have you so wrapped up it's like you are watching it unfold before your eyes. If they can draw you into the feelings being portrayed then less in your face detail works just as effectively as the direct "Wham Bam Thank you Ma'am" approach for other stories.
So I'm just going to tell you - you write what you are comfortable with. If the story takes you to the explicit parts, then go for it. If it doesn't & just kinda leads you to that point, then go that route. You can't please every reader and you have to feel comfortable with what you wrote. If you can't write it, how are you supposed to discuss it with your readers?

I like it if it is well done. I don't want sex just for the sake of sex. I like the heat. But it doesn't mean I like the story any less if there isn't any sex in it. In some stories the fade to black actually make them better because you can use your imagination. I love the way that kpatch works it into her stories. It is sexy without being raunchy.

I should post a "Love scene" that I wrote for Undertow that was cut from the story. I am definitely not hitting 50 Shades territory there

FYI for those who've never read fan fics other places. They can get very graphic. It depends on the rules of the particular site.
I enjoy sex scenes as part of good story. They can be very sexy without being trashy. You have to write what you are comfortable with though.

I love the way that kpatch works it into her stories. It is sexy without being raunchy. Oh thank you sweetie. Let's get physicalI like some heat, a bit more than just inuendo. As an author, it took me a long time to get past the fade-to-black stage and get more physical. I'm over the hump now.
