The following chapter is intended for mature audiences.
THE LAKE HOUSE BEDROOM
In bed that night, Philip was reading the book “What to Expect When You’re Expecting ... For Dads” and Chloe was reading the libretto to The Merry Widow.
Philip: Damn, I keep forgetting. Chloe: Forgetting what? Philip: When we drove into our garage tonight, the porch light wasn’t on. I keep meaning to replace the freaking bulb. Chloe: Did you know that Wesley said “freak” yesterday? Philip: You’re kidding. Chloe: No. I’m not. He copies everything you say and do. Philip: I know. It’s pretty funny. Chloe: No it’s not. Not when he starts cursing. Hey, don’t laugh. And don’t start teaching him any more bad words. Philip: But he’s my “mini me.” Chloe: I am seriously hoping this baby is a girl. Philip: Why’s that? Chloe: Because I don’t want to be outnumbered three to one. You men are going to drive me crazy. Philip: Well, let’s find out. Chloe: Find out what? Philip: The baby’s sex. Philip flipped to the index of the book he was holdling, then back to one of the inside pages. Philip: Hmmm. Chloe lowered her head to look at Philip over her eyeglasses. Chloe: Hmmm, what? Philip: This book says that you can find out the baby’s sex between 18 and 20 weeks. You’re ... what? Chloe: Twenty-six weeks. Philip: So? How come we haven’t talked about this before? Chloe: We’ve been a little busy, what with kidnappings, executions, and mind control ... as well as our everyday lives. You don’t really want to know the baby’s sex, do you? Philip: Hell yes. Don’t you? Chloe: No, not really. Philip: Why not? Chloe: I don’t know. I like surprises. Philip: Seriously? Since when? Aren’t you the same woman who always says that surprises are overrated? Chloe: Volcanoes and epidemics notwithstanding, I actually do like surprises. Philip: I’m never gonna let you live this down, you know that, don’t you? Chloe: Ha. I’m in trouble now. Philip: So, I want to know the sex, and you don’t. When’s your next appointment with Dr. Bader? Chloe: The 17th. Why? Philip: So she can tell me the baby’s sex. Chloe: Uh uh. No way are you going to know the baby’s sex if I don’t know it. Philip: Why not? Chloe: Because you’re going to slip and tell me. You know, call him a he or her a she. Philip: How about we call the baby Phloe? Chloe: What’s a flowee? Philip: Not flowee ... Phloe. It’s a combination of both our names. Chloe: That’s ridiculous. Philip: Why is this such a big deal to you? Chloe: Why is it a big deal to you? Philip: What are you? A parrot? ... Okay, I want to know because ... I missed out on this stuff with Wes. We didn’t know he was mine while you were pregnant, so we didn’t have the chance to enjoy the journey together. Not to mention the fact we weren’t even together at the time. And now we are. Chloe took her glasses off and set them on her nightstand along with the manuscript. Chloe: In that case, if you want to find out, then you should do it. But I still don’t want to know. Philip: Why not? Chloe: I don’t know. I guess I don’t want to start thinking about those things until the baby’s here. Philip: What things? Chloe: Things like ... will she be pretty? Will he be popular? Will he be smart enough? Will she be confident? Philip: Sweetie, whether you think about those things or not, it’s not gonna change who our child is. No offense, but what you’re saying doesn’t make any sense. Chloe: I know it’s not exactly logical, but it’s how I feel. It’s an emotional thing, you know? Philip: Not really. Chloe: That’s because you’re a man. Philip: True, but you like that part of me. Chloe: It’s one of my favorite things about you. But could you maybe try to understand how I feel? Philip: Sure. I can try. Chloe: What are you smiling about? Philip: Just thinking. ... You know, I don’t have any idea what our son or daughter is going to be like, but I can tell you one thing. Chloe: What’s that? Philip: With you for a mother, they can’t miss. Chloe: Philip, that’s so sweet. But I hope he ... or she ... looks exactly like you, dimples and all. Philip put his book on the nightstand and leaned over to Chloe’s side of the bed. He kissed her. Philip: If you can wait, I can wait. Chloe: Wait for what? Philip: To find out the baby’s sex. Chloe: Oh. Philip: What did you think I meant? Chloe: When you kissed me, my mind went somewhere else. I thought you meant you could wait to make love to me. Because that’s something I can’t wait for. I want you now, Kiriakis. Right now. Philip smiled and Chloe pulled him toward her. Philip kissed her deeply, then used his nose to nuzzle the sensitive spot on her neck. He traced his nose along her neck to her shoulder, moving downward to draw circles around her pink nipple. Unable to resist temptation, he took her breast in his mouth, alternately nibbling and flicking its point with his tongue.
He felt her body writhing beneath his, her obvious pleasure turning him on even more. He rolled her other nipple gently between his fingers, then skated his hand southward along her silken skin until he reached her magic button. He pressed the button repeatedly until she screamed his name.
His mouth released her breast and found her lips. He slipped his tongue between her lips and he kissed her nearly senseless. Chloe: Philip. Oh my god, please, I need to feel you inside me. Philip: Not yet, baby. Soon.
To be continued Monday ...
