I will post previews tomorrow. I'd post an extra chapter today, but if I did that, I'd be at risk for running out of story and having a gap between this story and the next one I post. This story is complete, but I haven't had time to write anything new lately.

In order to not give too much away, I’m posting some random bits of dialog from the week ahead instead of a day-by-day preview.


Brady: Philip asked the four of us to look after Chloe.

Chloe: If he thought something might happen, why did he go?

Chloe: Please tell me this isn’t really happening.

Hope: You have to focus on the positive.

Chloe: Those people are barbarians.

Chloe: Colonel Hudgens?

Chloe: Nooooo.

Chloe: Ah! Help!

Ohhhh Kpatch you just love to torture us don't you? I do not like Chloe yelling Noooo. I think they need to replace the light to show Philip the way home. (sort of like the candle in the window). Hoping they find Philip soon. I am worried that the Noooo and Ah Help is because Chloe went into preterm labour.

THE LAKE HOUSE LIVING ROOM

Chloe found her phone and dialed Philip’s number. She listened as a fast-busy signal sounded at the other end. She dropped the phone.
Chloe: Oh no.

Jennifer on TV: I’ve just been handed some new information. Oh god. Um. We’re told that ... at least one of the hostages has local ties -- a Marine from here in Salem. His name is ... being withheld, pending notification of his family. We’ll provide updates as soon as they’re available. Stay tuned to this channel for further information. Now, here’s Willard with the seven-day forecast.

Chloe’s knees gave way and she started to go down. Brady grabbed her before she hit the floor and helped her to sit on the sofa. Daniel went into doctor mode and held her wrist to check her pulse. He looked at his wrist watch, then he held Chloe’s eyelids open as he checked her pupils.

Daniel: Her vitals look good.
Chloe: My baby. Philip, I need you.
Daniel: Your baby is fine. Your blood pressure probably just dropped. Someone get her some juice.
Chloe: Where’s Wesley?

Hope went to the kitchen and returned with a glass of orange juice.
Daniel: Drink this, Chloe. ... Someone should stay with her tonight. I’ll do it.
Nicole: Seriously Daniel? No, I’m staying with her.
Daniel: But you’re not a doctor.
Nicole: And you’re not a genius. I have 911 on speed dial. If there’s an emergency, I’ll handle it.
Brady: I’ll stay too.
Nicole: Thank you Brady.
Chloe: Give Wesley to me. I need to hold him.
Nicole placed Wesley in his mother’s arms and Chloe held him tightly against her body.
Bo: No, you all go on home. Hope and I have it covered.
Hope: We do?
Bo: Yeah.
Nicole: But ...
Bo: We have first aid training and ...
Lucas: And what?
Bo: I think Philip would want me and Hope to stay with Chloe.
Brady: But Philip asked us ... the four of us to look after Chloe.
From the sofa, Chloe looked from one speaker to the next to the next.
Chloe: Philip did what?
Lucas: He asked us to look in on you while he’s gone. Of course, he had no way of knowing any of this would happen.
Chloe: He spoke to the four of you? Even Daniel?
Daniel: That’s right, he did.
Nicole: So, Bo, you can go.
Bo: Um, look, this isn’t a competition, but after he talked to the four of you, he came to see me, and it seemed like it was really important to him for me to be the one who ... you know, if anything happened to him.
Chloe: Oh god. Philip ...
Hope went over and sat beside Chloe on the sofa. She put her arm around Chloe.
Hope: It’ll be okay, Chloe.
Chloe: If he thought something might happen, why did he go? I knew he shouldn’t go. I knew something bad would happen.
Bo: Chloe, we don’t know what happened exactly. Let’s not assume the worst.
Hope: Bo is right.
Chloe: You don’t understand. We’ve been through so much.
Hope: If anyone understands, it’s us.
Chloe: Yeah, but you got together young. And you mostly stayed together. It took us too long to figure out that we belonged together. We wasted so much time before we actually got together.
Brady: Thanks a lot.
Lucas: Yeah, thanks.
Daniel: Whatever.
Chloe: Then I thought Philip died in a fire, then he didn’t remember being married to me, then Wesley was taken from us, then I got kidnapped by a white slavery ring in Thailand, and after I got home, Victor and Kate were executed. Then we were gaslighted into thinking we were living with a stranger. And now, finally our lives were peaceful and normal for like two minutes and ... It can’t end like this. Please tell me it’s not the end. It just can’t be.
