Rafe drops by to visit Jada. She is happy to see him and wants to know if he has changed his mind about quitting. He tells her that he hasn’t, he is there to drop of his badge & gun. She was hoping he would reconsider. He tells her that Roman pointed out that he could sue Paulina for removing him from his job when he was injured in the line of duty. She wants to know if he is going to, but he tells her he doesn’t want to cause any problems but can’t work for a department that would treat him this way after the years of service he has provided.

She reminds him they worked together before, but Rafe said this is different. He was demoted and she is now HIS boss. She offers to quit but he tells her no. She is a great cop and boss. But he doesn’t want to work for her. He tells her that he doesn’t want to end up resenting her and she is more important to him than the job. She wants to know if she asked him to stay, would he?

Pauline comes in before he can answer and tells them about the poisoned cupcakes. She gave them the card but nobody on the show knows anything about them. He needs to get over to the hospital and start an investigation. Rafe tells Paulina that Jada will have to find someone else to handle the investigation because he has just resigned for personal reasons. He tells Jada that he will see her later at home and leaves. Paulina didn’t want this to happen when she decided to keep Jada on as commissioner. Jada informs her that Rafe was hurt by the demotion and didn’t wat the job to come between them. They need to find out who poisoned the cupcakes. Kate comes in and says it might be Hattie Adams. Jada suggests they wait to get the results from the blood test to confirm it wasn’t just food poisoning. Paulina calls Kayla and she confirmed they were poisoned, but just enough to make people sick. Jada will get her team on it and put an APB out for Hattie.

I liked the way Rafe broke the news to dumbass Paulina. It had a big SCREW YOU attached to it without being TOO obvious.

They tried really hard to make this into a sexism issue, but it would be hard for Rafe to be subordinate to anyone, not just Jada, after having been Commissioner for so long. Abe didn't want to work for his wife either.
