Paulina tells Roman that Rafe and Jada are joining her shortly but orders a plate of mozzarella sticks. She’s celebrating because she got a clean bill of health. Roman is glad to hear that. Stephanie walks in, and Paulina greets her as if she were Chanel, causing Roman and Stephanie to look confused and concerned. Roman asks if the doctors forgot to check Paulina’s eyes. Stephanie hands Paulina a report. Paulina explains that she was joking. Of course she can tell the difference between Stephanie and Chanel, even if Johnny can’t. Roman jumps to Johnny’s defense. He’s heard about what happened and doesn’t approve, but Johnny is still his grandson. Paulina doesn’t know what came over Johnny, he was acting just like his father.
Stephanie says the mistake was partially hers and Alex’s fault. Paulina doesn’t hold them responsible. She invites Stephanie to sit down and asks why she and Alex got back together. Roman goes to cook food. Stephanie tells Paulina that the incident at the hospital was the start of her and Alex starting things up again, but it’s already over. Paulina heard about Abe and Kate putting a stop to that. She imagines it must be hard for Stephanie. Stephanie claims it isn’t, and that she and Alex are better as friends.
When Roman brings the food, Stephanie has left. Jada and Rafe arrive. Paulina notices the ring on the finger and congratulates Jada and Rafe, as does Roman. Rafe says they’ve been celebrating ever since. Roman says lunch is on the house. Paulina is thrilled for Jada and Rafe and wants all the details. Rafe says the doctors have cleared him, and as soon as she okays it, he’s ready to go back to being the commissioner. Paulina says that after much thought, she decided that’s not a good idea.
Rafe assures Paulina that he’s fully recovered and ready to get back to work. Jada vouches for him. Paulina isn’t worried about Rafe’s ability to perform the job. Rafe is an excellent cop, but since the P.D. is short-staffed, he’s needed back at the station as a detective. Paulina wants Jada to stay on as commissioner.
Jada agreed to stand in for Rafe while he was recovering, not replace him entirely. Paulina thinks this is the right move. Crime has been down with Jada in charge, and she’s overseen many high-profile cases, including the death of Li Shin and apprehending Vivian. Jada declines taking the job from Rafe. Paulina says it doesn’t belong to Rafe, but whoever she chooses, which is Jada. She hopes Rafe understands. Paulina’s phone rings, she has an emergency to attend to, and leaves, with plate in hand. Roman says Paulina is unpredictable.
Jada tells Rafe this isn’t what she wanted. Rafe knows, but it’s what Paulina wants. Rafe says he should consider himself lucky he’s still a detective. Jada doesn’t know what to say. Rafe does, and congratulates Jada. he hands the commissioner’s badge back to Jada.

Paulina is the WORST. Jada was HORRIBLE as top cop. She was so bad she makes Rafe look fairly competent.
Funny bit about Roman telling Paulina she was calling his grandson an "idiot."
Awkward moments between Rafe and Jada.
Jada was so bad she should have been demoted all the way down to traffic cop.
I give Days a touch of credit here. Smug Rafe certainly didn't expect this twist. He took it as well as one could.

Hilarious to see Paulina leave the pub with a plate of uncovered food, no time to box it up.

She's worried about her health so she orders fried cheese...
Paulina is the worst. This should have been disclosed privately and in an office, not in a pub with mozzerella sticks. Also, for a corp business woman, she certainly doesn't know about employment law.
Rafe should sue on so many levels and Paulina should be ousted. This is one reason I strongly believe EJ should have been mayor. Paulina doesn't know what she's doing and shows too much favoritism.
