Marlena is in the townhouse when Steve comes by to let her know about Cat & Mark. Steve claims the only good news is that it appears Caterina is their mother, so she may not be dead.

Steve explains that Shane called the prison’s warden to keep Clyde from contacting anyone to give the kill order. She wonders how they can keep Caterina safe without knowing where she is. Steve says they can’t and reminds her of the silver lining. Her face lights up and picks up her phone to call John & let him know.

John is hanging over the proceedings like a ghost.

I would have rather not had this scene at all than for Steve to tell Marlena the story so she could relay it to John. I'm sure they had to do a lot of rewriting due to Drake's illness and death but it didn't work.

I actually loved Steve and Marlena talking out the Catharina situation. Of course so sad that John is off screen for all this, but at least the character now knows he didn't kill anybody.
