At Rafe’s, Gabi opens the door to cousin Javi whose first words are he’s queer and Salem will have to deal with it. Gabi is thrilled to see him. They talk about his mother who just died. She tells him that his mother left her ring to Rafe. Javi is upset. Just because he’s gay doesn’t mean he wouldn’t want to give the ring to another man or keep it for himself.
When he states he’s staying in Salem, Gabi immediately offers him a job as her new assistant at Gabi Chic. He accepts.

I was so bored by the scene I missed the part about Javi being gay. Well at least that means he won't be courting Joy.
I guess his sexual orientation is the only discerning reason they brought this character in. Not much interested either way.
The whole Stefan/Gabi ending felt forced and botched.
I suspect Gabi and Stefan will unite at some point. Their parting has too many dangling participles.

Not offensive that he's gay, just the unsubtle writing. Nobody announces themselves that way to a family member. It's to inform the audience. |

Regarding his mom's ring, I know how Javi felt. (Is that short for Javier?) My grandmother had two grandsons (my cousins) and two granddaughters (me and my sister) and she left her engagement ring to her grandson. That always burned me up. That means she essentially gave it to someone who didn't know her because my cousin gave it to his fiance/wife. I may never have gotten married and wouldn't have had a ring at all. If she had given it to a granddaughter it probably would have gone to my sister since she's older. But I just didn't think that was the right thing to do, not that anyone asked me.  |

Oh, I have a few stories of family drama about engagement rings being handed down. That kind of thing leading to conflict and hurt feelings is not unusual. And yes, Javi is usually short for Javier.
As for the “I’m here and I’m queer” line, generally it’s said because most queer people had to keep quiet about who they are, and some still feel they have to within their society, family, and/or religion. Saying, “I’m here and I’m queer” may seem over the top to some, but for others it’s a way of being proudly open of who they are. I’ve had good friends use it in certain situations so it didn’t phase me. I’ll admit it came off a little clunky here, but, like you say, it informed the audience about Javi very quickly.

The only thing offensive in this whole thing is another Hernandez A new one will not make the existing two interesting I’m not overly invested here And Kpatch I’m guessing too Javi is sort for Javier as most people I know that go by Javi it’s short for this |
