Brady, still in the pink shirt/white jacket combo, emerges and sees Sarah. She is glad that EJ dropped charges. He can’t wait to get out of there. She asks if he has a moment, she has something she needs to say to him. Brady wants to talk to her too. They are going to head into his old haunt the interrogation room when Kristen calls him. She wants to know if he is really out. Brady confirms. She asks him to stop by her place on the way home, dangling Rachel as bait. She wants to know exactly how his release came about.
Brady comes in to see Sarah. He is sorry about the interruption. Sarah says she owes him an apology; she has been blaming him for months for the accident. Brady says that he thought he was guilty too, thanks to Fiona. But Sarah told the police she saw him behind the wheel and that nearly sent him to prison. If he never forgave her she would understand. Brady says she is forgiven. But Fiona could never have framed him if he wasn’t so drunk. He can’t forgive himself for relapsing. Sarah tells him he is a good man who had the good sense not to drive. Brady says now he remembers, he is having a hard time understanding why Sarah ID’d him as the driver. Did she see him in the passenger seat and got mixed up? Sarah doesn’t take this out. She admits that she lied.
Brady gets that she wanted him to pay, but he is surprised she would lie to the police to make that happen. Sarah says that is not why she lied. Brady asks if she was protecting Fiona. Sarah says absolutely not, she had no idea that Fiona was the driver. Brady heard that Fiona tried to push her down some stairs. Sarah confirms, and says that she would have succeeded if Xander had not come home when he did. She is a monster. Brady is sorry for Sarah, and for Xander. He can see she is reluctant to tell why she lied. He has had time to think about it and has a theory. He thinks she was trying to protect somebody, but not Fiona, but her son. Because the night she had him arrested, Xander was going to kill him, wasn’t he?
Brady knows how much Xander wanted revenge. He wanted to break his legs, it is not much of a reach to think he’d take it one step further. He tells Sarah about the guy pricking him with his ring and everybody thinking he was drunk. He lies that he has not drunk since the night of the accident (I remember him and Fiona swilling in her room afterwards). Brady says when he came to Xander was there and said he was just there to confront him, but he thinks he was there to finish him off. Sarah is silent. Brady says that Sarah calling the police stopped him from doing that. He says he thinks Sarah knew what her husband was up to, and she called the police to stop him from committing murder. Does that sound about right? Sarah still says nothing, but her face says it all.
Brady can tell that he is right. He gets it. He is no fan of Xander’s, but he doesn’t blame him for wanting to pay him back for what he thought Brady did to Sarah. Sarah says he is very generous. Brady says that as far as her lie goes, she thought it was better that a guilty man go to prison over the father of her child going to jail for murder. Brady can’t blame her. He knows she tried to do the right thing in the end by recanting her statement. Sarah says she did, but it was for selfish reasons. She tells him that there is an experimental drug that can help her walk again, but somebody offered it to her in exchange for getting the charges dropped. Brady can guess who made that offer.

This was a good scene, one that was necessary. Except I don't think Brady is smart enough to connect the dots (nor is Eric smart enough), but at least it got Sarah out of admitting something that could implicate her husband in a crime.

Yes, I agree that Sarah played it smart. I just hope Brady doesn't use it to convict Xander. They all need a fresh start.

Nobody can prove Xander meant to kill that night. Only Sarah and Maggie could confirm
