Brady is in shock. He didn’t believe Eric when he first mentioned that Fiona could have been the driver, but now he remembers. Fiona was driving, not Brady. He remembers being in the passenger’s seat. Fiona must have moved him, just like Eric said. Brady was ready to go to prison because he believed he was guilty.
Brady thanks Eric. If it weren’t for him, Brady would have never recalled that he was innocent. Brady says his father fought tooth and nail for him since the beginning, even when he didn’t want to fight for himself. And Eric knew something was wrong and kept digging. If Eric hadn’t told him he had left the bar with Fiona, he might not have remembered.
He leaned on Fiona when all of this first happened. She was the one who told him not to go to the police, which he didn’t understand at the time but does now. And Fiona came to see him and claimed she had something to confess before Kristen interrupted. And Kristen swore she was going to get Brady out. Now, Brady worries about what she’s planning.
Eric tells him to stop worrying about Kristen. They’re going to get him out, and Fiona will pay. But Brady realizes that Sarah claimed she remembered Brady driving the car. Why would she do that? Was she covering for Fiona? Eric doesn’t believe so and assures Brady they’ll get to the bottom of it.
*****
Jada is in the room taking Brady’s statement. She’s glad he seems so confident in his memories of the event, but this case will be based on credible witness testimony. They’ll need more than Brady’s statement to arrest Fiona. Eric tells her to go talk to Fiona and Sarah, and she’ll find all the proof she needs.
*****
After Jada leaves, Eric calls Marlena and asks her to come down to the station. They have good news. After he hangs up, Eric wonders aloud if Xander knew his mother was involved. Brady doesn’t think so. Xander was so angry he literally wanted to kill him. He doesn’t think Xander had any idea. Eric says that Xander is about to find out the hard way.
*****
Marlena arrives, hugging Eric. (She claims she can't hug Brady because he's cuffed to the chair.) She apologizes to Brady. When Sarah said she saw Brady behind the wheel, she believed her. Brady doesn’t blame her. He feels like he just got ten years of his life back. He’s going to stay in treatment and on the right path.

That was odd that she said she can't hug Brady. A mother would always find a way to hug their child. He had one free arm.

But she needed both arms to hug her favorite child, Eric. If the circumstances had been different, I doubt cuffs would have stopped her from hugging him.

Trust me, I know she's not his mother. That was kind of my point when I said a mother would find a way to hug her child.

But Marlena has been his step-mother since he was very young. She SHOULD be like a mother to him, but the feeling clearly isn't there, which is sad.

These scenes were good, but still bugged me for a couple of reasons: 1. I know the original story called for John to figure out the truth and save his son. For obvious reason we didn't get that. 2. Saint Eric got to save the day instead. Marlena got to cheer her favorite son, and still seemed okay with believing Brady was guilty all along. 3. Brady's neck is the same color as his shirt. It looks like a painful sunburn and makes me want grab some noxema.

I've noticed for a couple years that his neck and face are often super red which makes me worry about his blood pressure. So how does everyone know for a fact that John was supposed to help solve the crime and not Eric. I agree that Eric seems like a secondary choice but how do you know this?

So how does everyone know for a fact that John was supposed to help solve the crime and not Eric. I agree that Eric seems like a secondary choice but how do you know this? I don't dislike Eric like some members here but having him put together this puzzle was just too much. Eric has at times shown his "priestly" inclinations, but he has never ever been shown to be a nosy inquisitive type. Witness his head scratching ignorance over Sloan's sleazy schemes as a case in point The whole thing feels way too contrived. As for John I too have no idea but he would have been better suited for this thing. The good news perhaps, is that Brady won't OWE Kristen anything and maybe that stops any momentum in that ugly direction. I am willing to give Brady and Ava a shot. Not sure it would work but worth trying and is a hell of a lot more appetizing than a Brady Kristen reunion. Cripes Kristen has never shown an ounce of personal growth. Just the same old witch she has always been And I am afraid Xander and Sarah will find that out soon enough. Albeit (I'm straying her) I am also not sold on the "safety" of Dr. Rolf's "magic serum." I could see it now. They somehow get their hands on the serum, and it helps Sarah walk again. As well as turning her into a Wolfwoman. Ha.

Kpatch , I can't say for certain that was the original storyline, but I know I read it somewhere. Unfortunately, it was weeks ago and I can no longer recall where.
But the spoiler article said that John was going to investigate the accident and discover the truth about Brady being innocent. To me, it felt like it was headed that way during Drake's last few scenes and since they didn't know he wasn't going to return, I'm just assuming they made a last minute switch to it being Eric.

Thanks for explaining.
I would have preferred Paul to Eric in this capacity. He too is Brady's brother and I think he's done some investigative work. Maybe I have that wrong. In The Rest of Our Lives I've got him working at Black Patch with John and Steve, so that could be what I'm thinking of.
