Your favourite and mine, Marlena Evans is shuffling paperwork and pretending to be busy until whoever her scene partner is wanders in. And the ‘winner’ is Eric. She shelves what she was doing and notes his sad facial expression. This is his normal facial expression, but she is his mom so she knows something is wrong. He whispers that Holly knows that he killed her father.
Marlena knows how tough it must have been on poor Eric to tell Holly the truth. Eric amends that Holly didn’t actually hear it from him. Tate accidentally told her first. Marlena says Oh My Gosh. Eric correctly says they should have told Holly years ago and Holly is furious at Nicole and him and has every right to be.
Marlena’s heart breaks for Eric. How awful this is for him. Nicole should be here to talk to her own daughter. Eric says Nicole can’t fly with Jude right now as he has a head cold. Marlena offers to talk to Holly. Eric says that Holly will immediately ask her how long she has known the truth. Marlena agrees that she would have to admit knowing from the beginning and then Holly would blank her. If only her wonderful Eric had had a chance to tell her first. He has such a caring and compassionate way about him that Holly would have immediately understood and forgiven. Eric says he and Nicole were naïve and deluded. Marlena says that they both love Holly. Platitude #1 from esteemed Dr Evans: Where there is love, and a will, there is always a way.
Marlena continues to coddle Eric. Holly is like his daughter. He feels her pain. Platitude #2: You can only be as happy as your least happy child. Eric sobs that this is true. Marlena says that she has learned that you can’t be strong for your kids if you are wrapped up in their sorrows. You can’t suffer along with them. She continues that sometimes you fail your kids and sometimes you cause their problems, but you have to tell them you did what you thought was best at the time, and just keep on loving them. And then give it time. Eric mutters a few of Marlena’s buzz words (Love, compassion, time).
Marlena is hugging her favourite child. She is so sorry for him that he is dealing with so much, not just Holly, but Brady’s issues. Brady would prefer to go to prison and atone. Eric gets that. Marlena and Eric will help him with some ideas to self flagellate. Eric thanks Marlena for her listening and wisdom. He thanks God for her. Marlena thanks God for Eric. Somewhere, Sami is hurling.
A bit later, at the hospital, Fiona and Xander are waiting outside Marlena’s office. Xander pours something from a coffee cup that he drinks too fast for it to be a hot liquid. With any luck, he tells his mother, Sarah will remember whose face she saw behind the wheel. Fiona is not into that.
In with Marlena, Sarah worries that the good Doc is conflicted. If Marlena were conflicted she would not be doing this, she assures Sarah. She also wants to find out the truth of what happened. Is Sarah ready to see what happened? Sarah needs to know. She needs to know who hit her that night.

Can't argue but it was basically a boring pep talk but Eric should not just give up so I agree with that.

I am so sick of her coddling Eric. It was all about poor him, nothing about the child they lied to her entire life. HE drove drunk. He actually did it. He killed unloved Dr Dan.
Does Holly know that she only exists because Chloe stole her embryo and implanted it post Dan death? Is she aware that Brady, the guy who she hates right now, is straining Saint Dr Dan's heart with his aberrant behaviours? I hope EJ fills her in on everything.

Marlena is coddling a killer. She is sooo sympathetic to Eric when she should be offering to talk to Holly to help her deal with this revelation and NOT to help her forgive Eric.
I'm really disappointed that we didn't see Holly and Maggie talk. That would have been pivotal. They jumped right over it.
