Downstairs, Justin runs into Maggie. He mentions his argument with Xander. He says he doesn't want to drop the case, but he's wondering...does Maggie want him to too?
Maggie tells Justin she doesn’t want him to drop the case. She loves Brady but is disappointed and horrified. Justin says a lot of people in the house are struggling with how someone they all love could cause such a tragedy. Maggie says she’s familiar with Brady’s insidious disease, explaining that it lies in wait for a moment of weakness, and the only way to fight it is to reach out to your sponsor. Justin points out that Maggie is Brady’s sponsor. Maggie says that she could have helped him, but he never gave her the chance. She told him to call her, even if he was drunk she would come get him, but instead he decided to get behind the wheel drunk. She can't believe he'd do such a thing.

Maggie ran someone over while drunk many moons ago, did she not? Maybe it was even Sarah.

My mother backed over my favorite little sit down and ride fire truck when I was a small child. It was the worst thing that ever happened to me at that point. She replaced it with an inferior version. Ha.
But Maggie is trying to be diplomatic about Brady. And enough babbling Justin get to work and investigate the case.

When the truth comes out, both Maggie and Sarah will be supportive of Fiona due to understanding addiction. Xander not so much
Maggie thought she ran over Adrienne and Sarah, and was in the car, but it was Orpheus at the wheel. They put Maggie behind the wheel much the same way Fiona did to Brady.

carolineleg , I'm talking about wayyyyy before that, when Maggie's daughters were young, decades ago. Hmm, I don't think so. She was sober all the time I watched. Sarah got ran over by Eve, like somebody said, and she was in a coma in 1990 too after a fire I think.

That wasn't a question. I knew it happened, just couldn't remember which daughter was involved.
From Soap Central: Because Mickey and Maggie learned they would never have a child of their own because Mickey was sterile they adopted Janice Barnes. In 1978, Janice was taken away from Mickey and Maggie by her natural mother Joanna Barnes. Janice was eventually found and returned to Mickey in Maggie, but Joanna took a job in Salem and stayed close to her daughter. This relationship took its toll on Maggie, who began to drink heavily. Later that year Maggie's drinking increased, and she was arrested when she had an accident with Janice in her car. Both were knocked unconscious and transported to the hospital.
Maggie joined alcoholics anonymous, but fell off the wagon when Janice's custody hearing grew close. When the possibility that Maggie may lose Janice to her natural mother Joanne, Maggie kidnapped Janice and fled town with her. She would eventually return to Salem after Tom Horton found her in a nearby town.

Poor Janice. The only thing I recall about her is that she banged Bill Horton and then Harper Deveraux killed her for being a 'whore'

I remember her having Janice in the car. Vague memory but I remember watching with my mom and my mom being so disgusted that she put her daughter in danger (and rooting for Janice to be rehomed LOL)
I am not surprised that Maggie was harsh on Brady. She's struggled with alcoholism and saw him at his low points. She has been there, done that. Now this has impacted her own baby.

Brady, who got a second chance at life when Maggie chose to give him Daniel's heart, hasn't been making very wise decisions, honoring that gift he was given. Now he supposedly hit Sarah and paralyzed her....maybe even once the truth comes out, he will make better choices in the future.
Maggie, who has suffered and battled her own demons with alcohol, is able to find the ability to have compassion, love and forgiveness... after all the damage done to her family.... that takes a special and strong soul.
Fiona....you better hope when the truth comes out that Maggie and Sarah help Xander forgive you and help you seek proper rehab or face jail time.

I love that Maggie is having compassion towards Brady on this but her talk of how disappointed she was in him that he didn't give her the chance to help irritated me a little.
How is someone who is struggling supposed to come to a person who is backing the issue of the addict? Maggie was all about Theresa and Alex and constantly fussing over her and how proud she was. Yes Theresa needed to hear that praise and approval (partly to make her conscious get the better of her) but at the same time, Brady wasn't coping well with that situation and by constantly being put in it, it only made it worse. Yes Brady could have contacted a different person and he could have gone to more meetings, but Maggie's whole idea of helping him through it wasn't quite as easy as she was making it sound.

Everyone accepts that Brady was blacked out drunk, but are appalled that he left the scene without helping Sarah or calling for help. Um. If he's blacked out drunk, it stands to reason that he wouldn't have stopped the car to help. He wouldn't have even known he hit someone--if it had been him. It's not logical, but I know it's being done to keep this plot point fresh in everyone's mind when the truth finally comes out that Fiona was the one driving.

Jada even pointed out to Xander that the driver must have stayed at the scene nearly 20 minutes
