How do you all feel about Days using cast members as officiants (such as Marlena, Maggie, Justin, Abe) instead of, say, a member of the clergy or a justice of the peace like they used in the earlier Days?

I don't mind so much when it's Eric, since he was previously a member of the clergy. Nor do I mind when it's Marlena or Abe, as they've both long been able to marry people. Not as big of a fan of other people doing it. I think the idea that literally anybody these days is able to officiate marriages is a bit much, and I do kind of miss the days when they'd either get married in a church or before a justice of the peace. In the absence of that, I'm fine with Eric, Marlena or Abe officiating.

It took time for me to adjust to this new way... anyone can go online and become an officiant. I am old fashioned and preferred marriages performed by ministers/justice of peace.
However, when my husband and I renewed our vows for our 25th Anniversary, my Dad officiated it. Since then, I have attended weddings where family or friends have officiated. BUT there is something to be said about getting married, especially for the first time, by a minister that makes it seem more ....sacred.
I didn't mind Justin officiating Maggie's fake wedding to Konstantine because he was in on the set up. And since this was not Xander and Sarah's first marriage, I actually enjoyed Maggie officiating their ceremony. As far as Alex and Teresa, never wanted it to happen so I didn't care either way. LOL

I don't love it. Maybe if there were one or two cast members who were ordained to preside over weddings and such, but there are so many of them that it's unrealistic. I agree though that I liked Maggie doing Xander and Sarah's very small wedding in their apartment. It was intimate and lovely.

It seems like half of Salem is able to perform wedding ceremonies now.

Well, pretty much anyone can become an officiant, so it's not unrealistic. I kind of like that it can have a more personal touch instead of priest/minister/J of P, etc, who doesn't really know the couple.
And from a show budget perspective, they don't have to hire another actor to play a bit part for a day or two.
