This is hard, because it totally depends on the recast. There have been some recasts where I liked the 2nd more than the 1st actor (like Austin), but others have been HORRIBLE imo (like Belle after Kirsten Storms). And there are some characters (like Philip) where it just would never be the same without the same actor.

You liked Peck more than Muldoon, SOS?
Matt Ashford wasn't the first Jack, but he IS Jack, in my opinion.
Lauren Koslow isn't the first Kate, but she IS Kate, in my opinion.
And the best recast in the last 10 years is Chandler Massey as Will. He owns the role now.

Did anyone watch OLTL? I loved Roger Howarth as Todd Manning, but the recast of Trevor St. John was just as good, and at times better to me than Roger. They both brought something to the role to make it their own yet you could still believe it was the same character. Sometimes lightning does strike twice.
Or how about YR? I actually think Peter Bergman is a better Jack Abbott than Terry Lester was. Granted Peter has been Jack for a long while now, but still he was another example of a recast that worked.

I love Peter as Jack on Y&R!! To me, he is the ONLY Jack!! Victor and Nikki are irreplacable as is Josh Morrow. I like him as Nick!! Victoria has been recast alot, but I like Amelia as Victoria. Daniel Goddard is the ONLY Cane for me!!! I know he is the only person that has played that role, but I can't imagine anyone playing the part of Cane other then Daniel and the girl that plays Lilly the best Lilly!! She has been recast and I didn't like the girl that replaced her. |

Some recasts work well. I agree that a character like Eric Brady who's been offscreen for a decade can be recast much more easily. Part of the problem as someone mentioned is the chemistry issue. I want a good actor as well as one who has chemistry with their partner. If there's no chemistry then it's hard for me to get interested in a couple.
Jay was a recast too! I think the original actor was only on for a short time.

Going under the theory that the recast is great, I would love to have Philip & Eric back... Days needs more of that age group studs.. I also voted for Bo if Peter leaves and I am character driven. I have been watching Days almost from the beginning and I have seen many come & go so I am flexible.
Even with Belle, Charity may have been horrible but they realized it quickly & replaced her with Martha.. Eventually things work out..
