Steve is on the phone with Tripp. He says it’s one thing to take doctor’s orders from his wife but another to have to get them all the way from China. Steve assures his son he is following Kayla’s orders, at least most of the time.
Tripp and Wendy plan on taking a backpacking trip through Vietnam and Thailand next month. It doesn’t sound like they miss home.
As the call ends Justin enters. Kayla said Steve might be in need of a lawyer but didn’t tell him why. Steve shares that he broke Clyde out of prison. Clyde was threatening Tripp, and that’s why Ava was working for him and why Steve felt he had to break Clyde out of prison. Now, Kayla thinks Clyde will throw him under the bus.
Justin agrees it’s a valid concern, but Clyde hasn’t said anything yet. Steve doesn’t want to live in fear. He wants to turn himself in.
Justin hopes he can broker a probation deal with no time served. But he has one question. Was anyone else involved? Steve swears it was all him.

Later, Kayla arrives. Steve hopes she’s on board with his plan because it’s not exactly what she had in mind. Kayla can’t imagine him spending a day in prison or losing him again, but she doesn’t want to live in fear.
She assumes that John and Ava will have to come clean as well. She’s shocked to learn that Steve told Justin he was working alone. Kayla understands why he’s protecting John, but why the hell should Ava get off scot-free?
She understands that Ava is Tripp’s mother but she has so many issues with Ava that it is difficult. She’s sorry. Steve says he’s sorry.
She wants to share his milkshake. Steve says she can if she gives him an early discharge. She agrees that he’ll be discharged tomorrow. He’ll need some more kisses to tide him over until then.

Even after all these years they are so good together. I agree with Kayla that Ava should be charged, it was her plan and she still screwed it up by going rogue. But Ava never does jail time, despite being a murderer and a rapist.
John I can see why Steve is protecting him given he is emotionally fragile and has spent months having his brain messed with.
Keep hiking, Tripp and Wendy, and never return to Salem!

Jack's in town but he never went to see his brother in the hospital. That would have been so much better than running into Bonnie in the pub. Such a missed opportunity!

I don't get it. Jack and Steve are one of my favourite things but the writers never put them together

Well, Steve's got one more day in the hospital. Sometimes it's difficult to figure out each storyline/character's timeframe in Salem. Maybe Jack will pop in before he's released.
