Jack. When he was first introduced I found him irritating, as he was always hanging around Kayla and trying to undermine Steve. Then he got sick and used his cancer to manipulate her. Then he raped her and I loathed him. Just the sight of him on screen through 1988 made me sick. In early 1989 the writers paired him with the town virgin in a weird mentor relationship. I still hated him but I was interested. Then in the fall he broke into Bayview and met Isabella and I saw his genuine need to make Steve and Kayla's relationship work. He said that after everything the 3 of them went through that they had to make it, and he made it happen. By early 1990 he was my favourite, and Matt's performance throughout the year was insanely good. From being Isabella's bestie, to loving Jennifer but never daring to think he deserved her, then apologizing to Steve for letting Jennifer in and finally killing Harper to save his brother. What a year it was. The redemption of Jack was my favourite story ever ❤️
