Motown Night!!
Gladys and Tristan – RUMBA (21) (I don’t know if live singing was such a good idea, but I can go with it for a little while.)
Ok. If this were a real ballroom competition, this routine would be perfectly appropriate for a beginner lady in the 60+ age group. So for that, Gladys did great! Her hips were actually pretty good and her footwork was nice. To put her up against the younger kids really isn’t fair. However, I think the writing is on the wall. Gladys is done.
Bye Tristan. We love you. (Really. Seriously. Love. Call me!)
My Score: 6 Bless her heart.
Maria and Derek – FOXTROT (26)(Yeah, this live singing thing was better in theory. These old Motown folks are not sounding good.
)
This was not one of her better routines. She seems stiff and… just off somehow. I don’t know what was missing, but this one didn’t do it for me. That swirly silver dress did though! I love the way it moved!! So pretty!!! [/b]My Score: 7[/b]
Roshon and Chelsie – RUMBA (23)At times, this was really good. As much as I hate the guy (I think I’ve mentioned it before), I have to give him credit. Parts of this were very smooth and his hips were good. BUT, for some reason it just skeeved me out. It was like watching a 12 year old grope a 24 year old. It was just wrong. And icky. Yuck. I didn’t hate it (or him, like I have before) but I didn’t particularly like it either. Still…
My Score: 8Katherine and Mark – SAMBA (29)Uh-oh!! It’s the return of the bumpit! Ahhhhh!!!!!!
Well, the parts that WEREN’T Samba were good. But her Samba action was terrible. She was too high on her toes and wasn’t settling in her hips at all. She locked her knees too much and that ended up making her look stiff and not at all relaxed like she should have been in the Samba. It was NOT a good Samba. A good performance, perhaps. But not a good Samba.
My Score: 7 I don’t know what the judges were seeing (other than a hot girl) but they completely mismarked her, IMO. Talk about favoritism!! She danced a terr-i-ble Samba. Sure, she
looked pretty, but they can’t harp on other stars about their lack of technique (and score them low) and then come back and praise someone with ZERO technique and score them high. Ok. Sorry. Rant over.
Donald and Peta – FOXTROT (27)Well, that was lovely. I wouldn’t think of Motown as a Foxtrot, but they sold it! Donald had lovely footwork and his frame was very good! It wasn’t perfect, but it was VERY good!!!
My Score: 9Melissa and Maks – VIENNESE WALTZ (24)For Melissa, this was spectacular!!! She was relaxed. She was smooth. She was elegant. Towards the end, she started to forget her frame (shoulders went up) and she did lose some energy (as Len said) but overall, it was really, really good!!!
My Score: 9 I should add that their rehearsal package (not shown here) was FULL of arguments and Maks looking like a jerk. Melissa took Brooke’s mic in the celebrequariam and made it known that “85% of [their] rehearsal was fun and wonderful. Those little bits they [TPTB] put together were only brief moments of a wonderful week.” Thank you Melissa! Thank you for standing up and saying what we’ve always known – the rehearsal packages are edited to manufacture drama when it might not even be there.
Jaleel and Kym – CHA CHA (29)Hmmm. That sure was a whole lot of Kym leading herself.
I don’t know why I’m left feeling rather BLAH about this routine, but I didn’t care for it. He wasn’t really connected to it, somehow, and certainly wasn’t moving with ANY kind of hip action (as required in Cha Cha). Something about it just rang false. Hmmm.
My Score: 7 Although, speaking of manufactured drama, there seems to be a distinct coolness between Jaleel and Kym. I don’t think they are getting along AT ALL. Every smile she gives him just feels hollow. Maybe it’s my imagination, but I don’t think she likes him.
William and Cheryl – RUMBA (27)I need a minute. Or two. Or twenty. Holy hotness!!!! That was one of the sexiest things I’ve ever seen. Only one thing could have made it better and that was more chest and less shirt, but otherwise, I loved it!!! I thought the judges were downright rude and they should all have their eyes checked. That was H-A-W-T!!!!!
My Score: 10 I went back and watched it again this morning, and I still feel like it was a beautiful routine. Len called it “raunchy.” Uh, sorry Len, but maybe you need a little more “raunch” in your life! This dance was sexy, sure, but it didn’t cross any lines in my book. Plus, if you want to see something raunchy (or at least NSFB – not suitable for ballroom) just harken back to Maria’s and Derek’s Salsa from Latin night. Or even their Rumba from week 3 – where they totally had simulated sex on the floor – AND GOT THREE 9s!!! Hello! They made out on the floor!!! Ugh! Such BS.
The Dance Marathon – CHA CHAOrder of EliminationGladys and Tristan + 3 points (No shocker here.)
Maria and Derek + 4 (Yeah, she looked bad.)
Roshon and Chelsie +5 (Ehh. Whatever.)
Melissa and Maks +6 (I’m glad she stayed that long.)
Donald and Peta +7 (Not bad. Not bad at all.)
Jaleel and Kym +8 (Their lifts looks ridiculous.)
William and Cheryl +9 (Oh, he had me when he ripped open his shirt *SIGH* and then clearly forgot his entire routine. Whatever. You go hot boy!)
WINNERS: Katherine and Mark +10 (She looked the best on this one, so I can’t argue with the judges.)

I didn’t initially add in the Marathon scores, but after looking at them again, I don’t disagree with the judges, so I added their scores to mine. It ended up shaking my leaderboard a bit. Interesting.
Going home: Yeah, it’s curtains for Gladys and our lovely, lovely, leprechaun. We will miss you Tristan. :’( Don’t be a stranger. (Seriously!! Call me!!!)
