How square am I? I subscribe to TV Guide. Not what it used to be. They went from the pocket-sized treasure to a larger format a long - long time ago. Then they started slipping in double issues. And now they put out nothing but "triple issues."
That said they brought back the fun "Soap Dish" column. It is edited by Stephanie Sloane and according to her little introductory bio she has written for Soap Digest for more than 30 years. She wrote a revealing and rather shocking piece about Sloan.
It is a welcome addition, and it will be featured in every issue.
There was a time when iconic magazines ruled. Circa 1980's and even the 90's magazines like TV Guide (their Fall preview issues were gems), Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated were all wonderful weeklies that I enjoyed to no end. Rolling Stone, another winner, if memory serves, was a biweekly publication when I was a subscriber. Those days are gone for the most part even those publications are still plodding along but looking quite different.. I still subscribe to Sports Illustrated (a monthly now and it is cheap). Same goes for Time, sort of bi weekly, but they aren't what they used to be. Either am I. Ha.
Check Sloane and other Soap writers TV Guide articles out if you get a chance.
