Now that we've had Emily O'Brien onscreen as Theresa for a few weeks, what are your thoughts?

Every time Theresa is on screen, I think about a bad comedy bit. She is trying to play Theresa as an ingenue and it's not working. Everyone's got Theresa's number.

I also don't like how the character has gone from being a schemer to playing god with people's lives. She is now evil, and her motivation isn't even all that clear. Marrying Alex so she can get her hands on his money? That is as bad a plan as Dmitri marrying Gwen to get his hands on his own money.

I agree wholeheartedly, Kpatch. There is nothing about Theresa that is working - the writing, the recast... the characterization... nothing! Like you said, her motivations don't even make sense. She went from scheming to use Alex to make Brady jealous to now all of a sudden she's involved in a plot to defraud Xander of his fortune and she wants to marry Alex for his money? This feels like a poor man's version of Theresa and Brady's original love story except this version of Theresa really doesn't have that much chemistry with Alex to begin with. And Alex isn't even that much of a rootable or likable character like Brady is for a lot of people, (although I'll admit that Brady isn't really my personal favorite but I know a lot of people love him).

Also if supposedly one of the main reasons why Theresa was kept on a lot longer than initially planned is that because they wanted to use her to introduce Tate to the canvas, okay... then why don't we have any scenes of her with her son? The writers have been telling us for the last 5 years that Theresa was not only a good mother but that she is also a successful businesswoman whose shoe design Leo was literally raving about a while back. And yet when she comes back Theresa not only barely spends any time with her son but her fashion business apparently somehow has gone kaput just so the writers can trot out the same tired storyline of her being a gold-digger again. It's boring and dull and cliched and I'm fed up with it.

If this is all the writers are capable of doing with Theresa, then maybe it's better if she just pops in for occasional visits every once in a while and nothing more. After 10 years on this show, she deserves better, a LOT better.

I wanted a Theresa who decides to expand her growing fashion business into Salem and also spends time trying to interfere with Tate's relationship with Holly because she doesn't want Tate to make the same mistakes that she made, (I know, I know, I know... it's a retread of J.J./Eve/Paige, but honestly, that's better than what we have now!). She could've even competed with Gabi to prove whose company is the most successful and maybe she could've also recruited Talia to be a cosmetic specialist, (maybe it turns out that Talia didn't really want to be a doctor after all but felt pressured to become one because of her dad and she actually likes cosmetics and fashion).

The point is, there are so many things they could've done with her but they just took the lazy way out because they are not interested in character development or even good story-telling. All they care about is stupid jokes and inane plot references and that's basically it. If Theresa really is going to stick around for the long haul, she needs a hard RESET and a proper recast with a new face. Simple as that.
