Interesting preview. I wonder how long Philip will be able to keep up the charade. Keeping up the charade is the least of Philip's problems...

Chapter 19
Daniel peeks his head in the window of the Kiriakis kitchen door, knocking simultaneously. He sees Maggie at the stove and lets himself in, carrying a small bag of groceries.
She turns and smiles, “Hi!”
“Hello…” He makes his way over to her, greeting her with a kiss on the cheek, he holds up the bag, “Here’s your green beans and coffee cake. Two of the most random grocery items…”
“Thank you!” She chuckles, “I didn’t have time to bake a cake… and believe it or not there is nothing here.” She turns and retrieves a bowl from the cupboard dumping the beans into it. “Well, actually I had made an apple pie- but when I went to get it out of the fridge, it was half gone.” She laughs.
“For once, it wasn’t me!” Daniel chuckled as he stirs the substance on the stove, enjoying the aroma, “What is this?! I think could drink it!”
“Lemon and Garlic sauce for the chicken…” She turns and hands him the bowl of green beans, and an empty pan, “De-string please?”
“Bean duty it is!” He mockingly salutes her and walks to the island, taking a seat and beginning his task.
She turns back to the counter, her back to Daniel, she continues to cut potatoes and place them in the pan.
He is surprised by the lack of conversation and clears his throat, “So how is everything around here? Melanie doing okay?”
She shrugs, “Yes, I guess so; physically.”
“Is something wrong?”
Maggie takes a deep breath, she shrugs, “Not particularly…” She turns to face him, “She’s just very confused. It’s hard to sit back and let her feel that way without telling her the truth.”
“Well, has she hinted to anything she might remember? Are things coming back to her?”
She shakes her head, “No, she just told me that she feels lost. Like she’s forgetting something important” She turns back to her potatoes, “I wish I could tell her what it was.”
“I do too, you know I do… but we can’t tell her about something she doesn’t remember. And at this point, we have already been going along with what she believes. So what are we supposed to do now?”
“I don’t know, Daniel. I’m just starting to think we should have never done this to begin with.”
Daniel sighs, “We had to. There was no other choice. It’s too much for her to handle.”
“Well the fact is, she’s going to have to handle it eventually…” She spoke with a slightly stern tone in her voice, “Maybe it would have been easier just to do it right off the bat.”
He looks down, shaking his head, continuing to break up the beans, “So, you think I made the wrong decision.”
Maggie turns and looks at him, her eyes weary, “No, I’m sorry. I’m just a little edgy, I guess. You did what you thought was right… and you probably are right. I understand we have to protect her right now. I’m just afraid of what may be developing in the process. ” She shrugs, turning her back again, “I’m just concerned.”
He raises an eyebrow, “About her and Phillip?”
“More or less,” she pauses her stirring and looks back to Daniel, “Have you seen the way she looks at him? Even more so the way he looks at her?” She raises her eyebrows, “I don’t know, if he’s pretending to be happily married and in love, he’s damn good actor.”
“You think he still has feelings for her?”
Maggie leans with one hand on the counter, and the other on her hip, “I don’t think his feelings ever went away. And obviously, Melanie’s never did either, or we wouldn’t be in this situation, don’t you think?”
“I guess I didn’t think of it like that…”
She sighs, “I don’t know. I’m not a psychiatrist and I could be making too much out of it, but it seems to me that Melanie’s feelings didn’t materialize out of nowhere. They were obviously suppressed and never dealt with or they wouldn’t have come out in this way.” She watches as Daniel’s face grows distant, “What's wrong?”
He focuses back to his mother, “Nothing, I was just thinking about a conversation Melanie and I had before the accident.”
“About what?”
“Philip. It was the night that you and Parker came to the house to make cookies. We talked about Philip being back and how she felt about it and I got the very same impression from her then that you just described.”
Maggie shakes her head and turns back to the stove, “There is no use in analyzing it. We’re knee deep now. I just wish things could be different.”
“I know and I do too. I hate what this is doing to Chad. He’s a mess.” He watches as Maggie opens the oven and pours some of the sauce over top of the chicken, “I saw him today…”
She closes the oven and looks at him with raised eyebrows, “You did?”
“Yeah…”
“What did he say?” She spoke anxiously.
He shrugged, “Nothing much. Really nothing much, actually he would barely talk to me.”
She lowered her eyebrows, “Poor thing… where was he?”
“At the coffee shop,” He looks at her curiously, “Why? I mean… I know you’re concerned about him, but you seem a little extra interested.”
She shrugs and turns back to the counter, taking the pan of potatoes and putting them in the oven, “I’m not… I just want to know what he’s doing.”
He raises an eyebrow, “Really?”
She closes the oven and walks to the island, standing across from Daniel, “He came to see Victor the other day.”
“Yeah?” He continues to work on his bean task.
She looks down, shaking her head, “I probably shouldn’t say anything..”
He rolls his eyes, “Well, you have to now!”
“He asked Victor for help protecting Melanie and the baby from Stefano. I guess he thinks he’s going to put a stop to the business… I don’t know.”
Daniel’s eyes grew wide, “What?”
She nods, “Yeah… He asked Victor to get some information for him about Stefano’s enemies”
“He isn’t going to help him, is he? I mean… He can’t help him go after his father. Isn’t that some kind of mobster code of honor?”
“Daniel,” She looks at him sternly, “Victor isn’t a mobster… anymore.”
He chuckles slightly, “Ma, come on… I think it’s safe to say ‘Once a mobster, always a mobster’…”
“Whatever… But this is serious.” She looks at him firmly, “I’m really concerned about Chad.”
He nods, “I know... I’m sorry, I’m not making fun of it. I agree with you. This isn’t good…”
“Victor said he wants to help him, only so he doesn’t make a serious mistake.”
“That’s nice of him,” Daniel raises his eyebrows, “I just hope Stefano doesn’t get wind of it…”
Maggie takes a deep breath, nodding in agreement, she observes as Daniel solemnly shakes his head, “What?”
He looks up, “I don’t know. I can’t help but feel like this is all my fault. Maybe I should have thought this whole thing through a little better.” He takes a deep breath, “It’s bad enough Chad is hurting because Melanie doesn’t remember him- he also has to go through every day knowing that she and Philip are together. He must really feel like he’s lost her…”
Maggie raises an eyebrow, “And I pray to God he isn’t right.”

Poor Maggie is really second guessing the choice to hide the truth from Melanie.

Okay on the show, Melanie would have overheard that conversation, but not here, right?? I mean she isn't lurking in the background and we don't know it is she??

Chapter 20
The tension during dinner seemed to be clear to everyone but Melanie and Parker. After his talk with Maggie, Daniel couldn’t help but doubt himself more and more. Observing the situation between Melanie and Phillip was becoming slightly painful to watch and even more so to play along with. Carly had joined the dinner party, and actually seemed to liven it up a bit. Her and Melanie at least seemed to be relaxed, for the rest it was a different story.
As they all sat in the living room after dinner, enjoying coffee, Parker was showing everyone how to play “checks” with Grandpa. Melanie and Phillip were laughing and smiling with one another as they watched the young boy and his grandfather square off in the game.
Daniel was standing next to Carly behind the sofa, staring at the interaction between his daughter and her ex-husband, as Carly was talking to him.
She looks over and notices he isn’t paying any attention, “Hey… Daniel.”
No response.
She leans in front of him, “Hello?”
“Huh?” He looks at her confused, “What?”
“I was talking to you… until I realized I was the only one listening.”
“Sorry.” He takes a drink and turns, walking to the corner of the room.
Carly follows, “What’s wrong?”
He turns slightly, glancing over his shoulder, “Look at them…”
“Who? Melanie and Phillip?”
He nods, “Yeah.”
“Okay?”
“It’s just getting a little hard to watch them together…”
She takes a deep breath, “This was your idea.”
“I know, okay. I know it was. You think I made the wrong choice too, huh?”
Carly’s eyes widen, “Did I say that?”
He rolls his eyes, “Like the whole ‘This was your idea’ thing didn’t just give anything away.”
She sighs, “Daniel, I don’t think you made the wrong choice. Who would ever say that?”
“I don’t know.” He takes a drink and shrugs, “I was just talking to my mother earlier and it seems like she thinks we need to do something about this before it gets more complicated.”
“Well, she’s right in a way, but none of us thought that this would last this long. We had to go along with everything for her safety.”
“Yeah, I know. I’m wondering though, if we should have at least started to ease her into truth from the beginning. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be.” His voice is a soft whisper.
Carly is surprised, “Daniel, I know it’s hard but you know better than anyone that you can’t force memory on patients with a brain injury. It only frustrates them, and it would be too hard on her.”
“I guess. But watching my daughter living her life thinking she is still married and in love with her ex-husband is getting more and more difficult.” He takes a drink and gestures to the couple on the sofa, “Especially when I see the way they look at each other…”
Phillip puts his arm around Melanie and she snuggles into his embrace.
“I thought you made a pie?” Victor leans over and takes a piece of coffee cake, he looks up at Maggie who is walking towards them with two cups of tea,
Melanie and Philip sink further into the sofa, Maggie hands Melanie one of the tea cups, “I did bake a pie… but when I went to get it out for tonight, half of it was missing.” She gives a knowing glance to the two in front of her.
Melanie takes her tea and smiles sheepishly, “Thank you…”
“You’re welcome, honey.” Maggie smiles as she sits back in her chair with her coffee. She looks between Phillip and Melanie, “So how was that pie, anyway?” she smirks.
They look at her guiltily, the young girl’s eyes widen, “Delicious. We had a little fridge raiding session the other day…”
Maggie chuckles, “Am I going to have to start hiding food?”
“No…” Melanie speaks softly, “We didn’t know it was for dessert… I’m sorry.”
“It’s all right.” She looks at Parker, “Parker, I’m going to need your help. Keep your daddy and Melanie from eating my dessert!!”
He looks up at Maggie, smiling coyly, “Melnee and daddee were kissing!” He giggles.
Maggie looks up wide eyed and then tries to cover her shock with a nervous chuckle as she meets Victor’s stern gaze, he grumbles before shoving another bite of coffee cake in his mouth.
Melanie rolls her eyes, “He won’t stop talking about it!” she chuckles, “I said to Phillip… it was like he had never seen us do that before. He’s so funny…” she shakes her head in amusement.
“Yes, well… he is, isn’t he?” Maggie smiles as her wide eyes meet Philips, then glancing up to the back of the room, where Daniel rolls his eyes and turns away, Carly places a hand on his shoulder. “You can’t be too surprised by that…”
“No.” He whispers sternly, “I just can’t believe I was so stupid to think this was all of a good idea.”
“I don’t think anyone thought it was a good idea… but it was the only option at first.” She sighs, “Now…”
He turns to her, “Now?”
“Maybe we should give some thought to letting Melanie in on the truth?”
He sighs as they both turn back wearily, in observation of their daughter.
Chapter 21 Preview -Melanie and Philip continue to grow closer, Maggie and Victor on the other hand...

So many complications. I like the way different people seem to view Melanie's situation differently.

They definitely do have different view points. And in true Victor form- won't be long before he makes his opinions known! LOL
