Rumor about a possible Theresa recast (Read 595 times)

Okay, so today I was browsing through Twitter minding my own business when suddenly I came across somebody's tweet claiming that not only is Theresa going to be showing up soon, but that she is going to be recast by none other than Emily O'Brien, (the actress currently playing Gwen). So according to this person, Gwen will be written out of the show but then after Jen Lilley finishes her latest stint as Theresa, Emily will be returning as Theresa. 

I don't know... this really bothers me. I know a lot of people don't really like Theresa, but a lot of people do like Jen Lilley, and a lot of people also don't really like Gwen either. If this is true, this feels like a massive stunt casting similar to what they did with Robert Scott Wilson when the writers gave Cin their happily ever after and he came back mere weeks later as Alexander Kiriakis. Every time people see Emily as Theresa, they are going to automatically associate her with Gwen and this might cause some people to become extremely resentful of her because of their bitter feelings towards Gwen. In other words, this could totally backfire on Days in the worst way possible. And I'm also dreading whatever story Ron might have planned next for Theresa. The El Fideo story a couple of years ago was bad enough to begin with; I don't want to think about what other awful story he might dream up next. 

Anyways, I've been waiting for the last several months to see if there is any official confirmation from reputable sources that Theresa is actually coming back, but so far nothing. And yet this rumor just keeps persisting. I don't know why. We'll see what happens I guess; I'm not holding my breath.

I did some snooping. I don't believe Emily O'Brien will take over the role of Theresa. There is no indication of that from my end.

Indeed Theresa, played by Jen Lilley, MIGHT return for a stint. That is what I am hearing. If Theresa does show up she likely won't stick around but you never know.

I would love to see her return for a long stay. I was very fond of her. Eve, Ava and Theresa I would love for all three to stick around in Salem.

As for Emily taking over a role of an American, she would have to ditch her thick Brit accent. I suppose she could, which would be a bit jarring, but I don't think that is a bridge that will be crossed.

Rumors that Jen might return started this spring and again in July, so I think the Emily rumor is not accurate.

Double check your source. Sounds shaky to me.

Yeah this information that I'm hearing about is from this woman named Marcia who I think has a reputation for making claims about storylines and character introductions/exits that may or may not be happening. Mind you I'm taking all of this with a grain of salt and I'm not believing a word of it until I get confirmation from a reputable source. And yet for some reason some people are so convinced that it's actually 100% happening and it's throwing me for a loop. Also what I find really weird is that for some reason these rumors happen to be popping up again on Jen Lilley's birthday. What's up with that?

To the best of my knowledge based on recent reports Theresa, played by Jen Lilley, might return to Days this year. It isn't a sure thing, but I would say more likely than not. We will find out at some point. In the meantime, you might want to stay away from this Marcia person. Ha.

I have flicked thru some Soap Opera Digest's over the years but never bought one. The subscription price is ridiculously high. There is a lot of stuff on the internet and too many sites have a tendency to predict things that never materialize.

But at least with Soap Opera Digest the dish is usually very accurate. Like Ava returning for real.

Well at least now we know that Jen Lilley is coming back for a brief period of time. I guess it remains to be seen if the Gwen rumor pans out.

I've known about this for a while. Jen Lilley comes back for a brief stint, and then there's some kind of transition, and Emily O'Brien will begin playing Theresa. The plus side: Gwen is gone! But this show truly makes my head hurt.

Gwen's storyline may run it's course and there may not be much else for her to do, but I just don't think that this is going to be a good thing. Especially if Jen Lilley comes back for a stint. Jen's Theresa will at that point be fresh on everyone's mind and having Emily jump from Gwen to Theresa......I just can't see working well. I don't like either one of them and will be glad when Gwen has left town (maybe via a bus?? Or up the Horton staircase??) but recasting Emily as Theresa will be extremely jarring and difficult to seperate the 2.

It's so, so weird to begin with, plus to bring JL back and *then* do the recast. Insane!

So this is real. Absolutely ridiculous. I hate Gwen so I’m glad she may leave but I liked Theresa and Jen Lilley. I hate the idea of Theresa being taken over by the actress that plays Gwen.

Maybe she’ll surprise me but I just don’t like it. There are so many actors trying to get work, why not give someone new a chance instead of recycling actors? Especially so quickly.

I wonder if it could have anything to do with the actor’s strike???

I suspect the reason they re-use actors so much is two-fold: they like them as people, and they can work within the confines of the rapid-fire shooting schedule. I bet a lot of objectively "better" actors couldn't produce decent work at the pace Days shoots.

But it makes my head hurt!

Thanks for confirming mikey. That's disappointing. I wanted to get rid of both Gwen AND the actress who plays her. I can't stand her and don't think she's anything special.

I actually think she's talented IN THEORY, but I can't quite separate her from the character of Gwen right now, so I'm kinda with you.

One thing I learned is that she does a lot of voiceover work (I think in video games) and often uses an American accent for that, so I'm curious how that will play onscreen.

Good grief. Beyond the strangeness of this news, I tip my hat to member sevenna92 for tipping us off on this bizarre twist. Since Jen Lilley was coming back, albeit briefly, it seemed a stretch to think Emily O'Brien would switch roles and become Theresa. I figured sevenna92 was listening to the wrong people. Turns out I didn't know what the hell was going on. Nothing new par for the course in my life.

You never know what will happen each day you wake up. Overall, I don't like the news because unlike so many here at this site I am a Gwen aficionado. Among many fans Gwen is actually quite popular. And to see her leave (although Gwen could very well return) is a real bummer for me. And although Gwen's latest storyline, if one squints, seems like it could be a finish off moment for the character a couple of things are left hanging.

First her relationship with Leo which has been one of the delights of the show the past couple of years. And of course, where does that leave Leo. A bit stranded it seems.

The silver lining for me is the actor Emily O Brien will remain with the show albeit not too thrilled with the idea she could very well say goodbye to her British accent. And jarring to witness.

Doubly odd is I have been pushing a Brady/Gwen hookup. Well, if Emily is going to play Theresa, that hook up could very well occur between the actors.

The one plus here is Theresa and Gwen had some things in common especially their emotional fragility.

To recap bad news on one end but happy to hear Emily O'Brien will be sticking around. And while a major change in direction I think it might all work out. At least, I hope. Time will tell. Not sure when all of this is going down. Might take some time.
