I think MarDar came up with some really good ideas and their stories really did have potential, but they were excuted poorly. The pacing was all wrong some stories were wrapped up to fast and others just dragged to the point where you lost interest. I do think they have been doing a good job with the Will coming out storyline. I also enjoyed the Abby going crazy storyline, but again it was rapped up to quickly. I am really dissapointed that they didn't further explore the mental health issue with Abby, both her grandmothers Laura Spencer Horton and Jo Johnson have both done time in mental institutions and I believe Laura's mother Abby's great grand mother also had mental health issues. I would have loved to see Ericka Slezak (ex-Vickey OLTL) to play the role of Laura Horton. There is so much they could have done with that storyline and it was just dropped.

I hope we continue to see mentions of the past but not a bunch of past storylines revisited.

I hope we continue to see mentions of the past but not a bunch of past storylines revisited. I completely agree they need to find a balance between honoring the past, but at the same time moving forward with new story ideas not recycled ones.

And I completely agree with you. To me, they went way overboard in a lot of things. While I was excited to see SOME old, familiar characters return, many were brought back that I feel shouldn't have been. Same thing with the recycled s/l. If a show runs as long as Days, I get that there are bound to be some recycled s/l's but it is true that some of them were way too deja vu. These are supposed to be professional writers. I expect more than an 80's s/l where they've basically just changed the characters, and sometimes not even that.
Does anyone know when the new writers work will start to air? Also, I wonder if we are going to go see the same announcements we saw last time about several actors getting cut and other being brought in with another "reset" or it will be a more gradual thing.

I didn't mind the re-hashed stories as long as the original was from a long time ago. I liked that Will was going down the same path as Sami (seeing the affair) but was making different choices. THAT was interesting. Redoing the same story they just did two years ago is crappy/lazy writing.
Does anyone watch B&B? They are doing some fun stories where kids are repeating parents' mistakes but it doesn't feel tired.

It should be several months before the changes take place as they've been taping about three months ahead.

I am pretty sure they will be letting some people go, but they have been needing that for a while the cast is already to large.

from daytime royalty daytimeroyaltyonline.com/topic/8670899/56/UPDATE FROM SOD: www.soapoperadigest.com/content/its-official-days-names-new-writing-teamIt's Official: DAYS Names New Writing Team By SOD • Posted: Apr 6, 2012 Yes, DAYS has new head writers for the second time in a year, the show confirms exclusively to Soap Opera Digest. New Co-Head Writers Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell will be joined by another Emmy-winning writer, Lorraine Broderick — who most recently wrapped up things in AMC's Pine Valley — as a breakdown writer. "We are excited and look forward to the stories of romance, suspense and intrigue this new dream team plans to tell," enthuses Co-Executive Producer Greg Meng. This news really makes me a little more optimistic. I was big All My Children fan so I am very familiar with Lorraine Broderick's writing I can say she is excellent. Her writing is very character driven and respects the history of the show. I am trying to be optimistic about Tomlin, but in all honesty he makes me nervous. I kind of wish they had just hired Lorraine Broderick as head writer.

^^ Fingers crossed that Broderick gets a quick promotion to co-HW with Whitesell.

Anybody think they've brought in Lorraine to wrap up Days?

Only if they are stupid enough to give Tomlin free reign first and let him drive off a third of the audience again. Lorraine is really good and could help Days make a real comeback. I'm glad she's on the team but she needs to be higher on the team for my taste and Tomlin needs to be far away from anything Days related.

OK I slept on it... Vivian in a coffin and two Rafes was pretty Passions like. Although Days would have done similar in the past..Cassie and Rex (nuff said). I guess I saw the past regime of blending Days with OLTL (which I am ok with) and I guess Passions (or JER's version of Days).
Anyway I am hopeful...
