It is now officially confirmed by SOD that this news is in fact true. SOD CONFIRMS: www.soapoperadigest.com/content/days-writers-outDAYS Writers Out By SOD • Posted: Apr 4, 2012 As reported in the 4/16 issue Digest — which will hit stands on Friday — DAYS head writers Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas Jr., who joined the show last May, have been replaced by former DAYS Co-Executive Producer and one-time Co-Head Writer Gary Tomlin and former DAYS Co-Head writer Christopher Whitesell. McPherson just tweeted the following: "Thank you DOOL fans. U r the best and we love you! NBC never let us tell our stories. They kept stopping us and changing our direction. Sad."

Of all the writers in Hollywood I still don't understand how Tomlin could have even been a consideration - was Charles Manson too busy.
As for Marlene's tweet, I would think that the stories they most likely consider as "their stories" would be the "A - storylines" like Alamainia and the new characters they created like Ian and Madison, so I'm not sure if NBC's interference made those better or worse. I don't see Tomlin making anything better though, that much I'm sure of.... so I'm hoping that NBC and Meng (who is an ex-NBC exec himself) keep up the interference.

I am curious to know exactly what MarDar were not able to do because of the interference. I like that they brought back SOME vets (I was happy to see Jack, but distressed to see how quickly he was dropped) but add me to the group that doesn't want to watch stories about grandparents. I also enjoyed the lack of violence (although, I would have enjoyed Ian meeting with some violence).

I am a little worried for Bryan Datillo, wasn't it Gary that told him that he is not a leading man.

& Madison too DD!!! I can't buy too much into her tweet as well b/c these are the same people who basically said they didn't care about the kind of reaction fans had as long as they had a reaction to it. They promoted the crap outta the storylines and if they were truely unhappy with being hand-held writing the stories as she claimed, then they would have left months ago when story directions were constantly changed instead of waiting to be fired. I dread seeing what Tomlin is gonna do

Here is a tweet form Marlene about her firing. Apparently the execs at NBC are the ones who were forcing MarDar to write these crappy storylines we are seeing right now and not allowing them to write what they really wanted to. I really wonder how much better their stuff would have been if NBC didn't step in and change their stuff. I would really like to know what their stories were or what they would have been.

I wonder who chose which vets should return. The fact that they didn't bring in tons of viewers sounds like a big part of the problem. I wonder if any stories will be edited or changed since they film several months ahead.

I'm pretty surprised about this. There are definitely some stories that I don't like and I know there were some missteps but I think the show has gotten a lot better. I really like Will's story and hope that doesn't change with new writers. I wouldn't mind seeing Bradison and Alamania go with the writers. Anyone know if the new (returning) writers were fans of Phloe?

Tomlin isn't a fan of Days or any Days characters. He systematically removed, backburnered or otherwise diminished every established character in favor of his new inventions.

Well, why on earth did they bring him back? I read some other posts where people said he was in charge when Higley was there. I do know that was my absolute LEAST favorite time watching Days. I also know a lot of other fans hated what she did to many of our faves, including, Phillip and Chloe. I am really hoping we are not going back to that. I don't see why they ever would b/c as I said, I don't remember a time when I saw more complaints about the show.

He was the producer during the time that Higley was HW but he micromanaged everything including the storyline directions. The good news is that he is only returning as co-HW and not producer. He will have to stick to only the writing and Meng will be the one making cast decisions and approving creative decisions.

Well, who's making the final decisions now? Who was the one pushing Alamania? Who pushed to bring back all the old people?

So...the reset was in September and this is April. They gave these guys about 8 months and they're already getting the heave-ho. I'm wondering if this is a last ditch effort. I do think they went overboard w/ the cast returns. I few were a good idea but they brought back way too many and several that were mediocre, like Carrie and Austin. I do hope Lucas stays, as well as Marlena and John. I

I want Carrie to stay, but Austin to go. If John and Hope blow up in a plane on their way home from Alamania, I wouldn't complain.
The only thing I'm concerned with is if the new writers do something horrible with Will. If they even TOUCH that storyline, I'll be hella mad.

@kazz, what were some of the storylines when Tomlin was HW? It wasn't when Marlena was possessed was it?
