Live, from Hollywood. It’s Dancing With the Stars!!!!!Welcome back Dance Fans! We have arrived at Week 3 and already TPTB are demanding each dancer to perform the ritual/exploitative dance of emotion. Each dancer is supposed to use a dance to reflect their most memorable year. You might recall last season’s JR Martinez’s triumph over being burned. Totally tear inducing. Of course, you might also recall that chick from the Hills and her “tough” personal story of moving to L.A.
On with the show!!! The routines are listed in the order in which they performed.
Jack and Anna – SAMBA Last year Jack found out he had a new daughter, who’s in her 20s, and he was very happy about it, so he’s going to dance the happy Samba. Sure! Why not?
Side note: Why is it that every time I see Jack Wagner, I actually see Jack Deveraux? Is anyone else experiencing that? Anywho, it was a … nice… routine, just like all his others have been. Not awesome, not terrible. Not much to comment on.
My Score: 7Maria and Derek - RUMBA Maria’s memorable year was the year her parents immigrated to America. She loved to watch/listen to Material Girl, so that’s what they’re dancing to, just a Rumba version of it. Watch it and then let’s chat about it.
Ok. So they pretty much just made out/simulated sex on the floor for a minute and a half. Kudos to her/Derek for dancing without a rhythm and I guess it was ok. It was a little too much sex and not enough dancing for my taste though. However, the parts she did dance were quite good. Oh, and they totally kissed. Let the rumors fly.
My Score: 8Gladys and Tristan – FOXTROT Tristan!!! Gladys’ memorable year was the year she got with the Pips (what exactly is a Pip anyway?) so they’ve decided to dance to a Sam Cooke song. Was Sam Cooke a Pip? I’m confused. I know he was Motown, but oh well. Before my time, I guess.
How adorable does Tristan look? I mean, seriously?!? But, sorry, I have to get angry for a second. This song is NOT a Foxtrot. AT ALL!!! It’s an American Rumba!!! I don’t know if that’s Tristan’s fault or the producers, but it was a terrible choice. I felt so disconnected from the music that it was hard to watch. Gladys was ok, but it couldn’t get into it at all. Sorry Tristan.
My Score: 6Roshan and Chelsie – SAMBAHe’s doing a Michael Jackson tribute? Um, ok.
I’m not sure how Samba + Michael Jackson is going to = good routine. We shall see.
Ok, I get it. She’s the Samba. He’s the Michael. That’s not really how this competition works, but whatever. I H-A-T-E-D this routine. There was little to no Samba and it was NOT my cup of tea. This kid has got to go. Yuck!
My Score: 5Gavin and Karina – RUMBAStill with the hat?! Argh!! His most memorable year was the year he went to a Billy Joel concert as a kid and figured out he wanted to be a musician. There was brief moment in rehearsal that he was without the hat and he looked pretty cute! Dude! Lose. It.
Well, he did a lot of lovely poses while Karina danced around him. There were a few hips thrown in there for good measure and he did well with that. But, dammit Karina! Let your men dance!!!
My Score: 8Katherine and Mark - WALTZHer memorable year was 1996, the year her father died from lung cancer. Way to bring the show down, Katherine. Just kidding. Kind of.
I know I’m supposed to be all “Wow! That was awesome! Such fluidity, such grace!” but I’m left perplexed instead. Yes, her movement was good and she emoted quite well, but this wasn’t a Waltz. Waltz has a very specific 1-2-3 timing and this song is clearly 1-2-3-4. I don’t get it. Why would Mark do that? I even watched it again to make sure. Yep. I hear a 4. But I’ll just grade her on what her teacher asked her to do and how well she executed it. For that I’d say
My Score: 9.
Sherri and Val – RUMBASherri’s memorable year was the year her son was born pre-mature, so she’s dancing a sexy rumba for her son. Huh?
Why does she look so pained? Is she injured? Or is that her sexy face? It just makes me uncomfortable. Some of the routine was nice, most of it was not. Bottom of the board for you, Sherri.
My Score: 5Melissa and Maks – JIVE Her memorable year was the year she broke her back. So now she wants to celebrate that she can dance with a Jive. That actually makes sense.
A little bit of Rumba to start and then into the Jive. Love Florence and the Machine! Even though she looked a bit heavy footed at the start, it was pretty good. I give her credit for that. She still has a ways to go, but it wasn’t terrible.
My Score: 7Jaleel and Kym – RUMBA Memorable year = the year he played Urkel’s alter ego, Stefan. That was the year people started to notice that he wasn’t quite the dork he played on TV.
Great song!! And, yes, he was smooth, but it was a little off. I’m not sure why. Part of it was very good, but it was a little too much Kym and not enough Jaleel. Still, I liked it.
My Score: 8William and Cheryl – SALSA Mmmmm. William. Let’s all just take a moment. ……… He’s so pretty. His memorable year was the year he left Cuba. I think we all got lucky that year. Don’t you?
I officially hate Cheryl Burke. She gets to have that man rub his hands all over her? So not fair. I have to confess, I actually yelled “HELL YEAH!!!” at my TV when she ripped open his shirt. As I type this, I’m STILL fanning myself. Where’s that hose? Seriously, that was H-A-W-T!!!! I’m keeping this routine on the DVR for a while!!
My Score: 10 I’m not kidding. That was awesome!!!
Donald and Peta – RUMBA Donald’s memorable year – the year a very close friend died. We just went from the hottest routine we’ve ever had to a dude with a dead friend. I feel for him, but this routine is wasted following William. Oh well.
Sweet routine, but it just feels like something isn’t right. The energy is all wrong. I feel bad for Donald. I think if he’d gone before William, it would have been different and it would have been received differently. Oh well.
My Score: 8 Ok. I’m going back to watch William again. Mmmmmm. William.

I won’t even take a guess as to who is in the bottom three (or are they just doing two?). But I will say who I’d like to see there.
My Bottom two: Sherri and Roshon.
Going home: Hopefully it’s Sherri, but I really don’t know.
