Grab your Mirrorballs, it’s time for Dancing With the Staaaaarrrrrrrrrrrssssss!!!!Ahh, week two. Everyone got a second chance to make a first impression. Our first sacrifice will go home tomorrow, and I’m pretty sure we all know who that’s going to be (more on that later), but we get one more day to bask in the glory that is WilliamMaksTristan – the three headed gorgeous beast that we all wish would invade our boudoirs.
Special thanks to MrsM for live tweeting last night with me. Super fun!! Katherine and Mark (JIVE) – 26 last week + 26 this week = 52
I thought the casino theme was a bit much, but that’s Mark – if you can’t showcase the talent, hide it behind massive props and an overbearing “theme.” Katherine is not one of my favorites this season. For some reason, she irks the fire outta me (a big reason could be Mark, but I digress). But, it’s not (really) about her personality. It’s about her dancing. So here’s my input on her dancing – the girl has GOT to get off her toes!! It would appear that she took ballet as a child/teenager and she is coordinated, but the technique of ballet and the technique of ballroom are COMPLETELY different. If the judges are gonna hammer everyone else for their lack of technique, they should at least attempt to not be distracted by her… charms.
My Score: 7Roshon and Chelsie (QUICKSTEP) – 23 + 26 = 49
Ehhh. The kid’s ok. I can’t say that I like him, but I don’t HATE him. He’s more like an annoying 7th grader that I’d sneer at in the mall. But, then again, I’m not that fond of tweens. (Don’t I just sound like an awful, awful bitch?) With a dance like Quickstep, it’s a bit easier to hide the flaws in technique and I think Chelsie did it (with some very helpful staging) – she danced in front of him a few times so the cameras/judges could only see her feet and he was able to hide behind her skirt. Ha! The tricks of a dance teacher.
My Score: 7William and Cheryl (QUICKSTEP) – 24 + 25 = 49
*SIGH* Enter head number one of our beautiful Cerberus. But what’s this? Why all the clothes?!? Cheryl promises that the longer he stays in the competition, the less clothing he’ll wear. So if he gets to the finale, he’ll be dancing in his boxers, right? Vote, people, VOTE!!! *SIGH* Naked William. Yumm. Ooops. Sorry. Distracted myself. Back to the dancing. As gorgeous as this man is, (and did you see his son?!?! How cute is he???) his Quickstep wasn’t all that fantastic. It was nice, but it wasn’t yowza good. Then again, it’s only week two. He’ll settle down. And, as much as I like to look at it, he stuck his bum out a little too much. Straighten up and tuck it under.
My Score:6 Sorry William.
Jaleel and Kym (JIVE) – 26 + 22 = 48
I know the judges didn’t really care for this, but I liked it. He was moving pretty well, and even though the technique was only decent, it was still better than horrible. I’d say he was half-way there, and for week two, that’s pretty darn good.
My Score: 8Maria and Derek (QUICKSTEP) – 21 + 25 = 46
Is it just me, or is the top of her dress so ill-fitting that it’s distracting? Shame on the costume department! I have ZERO sympathy for female stars when they dance the “ballroom” dances (Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Tango). For almost 90% of the dance all they LITERALLY have to do is hang on, look pretty, and DO THE CORRECT FOOTWORK!!!! Maria had two out of three. I’ll leave you to decide which two.
My Score: 6Sherri and Val (JIVE) – 23 + 23 = 46
Oh heavens. This was just all kinds of bad. Not only is she craaaaazy top heavy (which you CAN adjust for balance-wise) but that was just waaaay too much Tina and not nearly enough Jive. Granted, they obviously had a screw up with a lift (no, not a lift – I’m watching you Carrie Ann – but a trick move) and it messed them up completely, but what little Jive she DID do was awful!!! It was really bad, y’all.
My Score: 4Donald and Peta (QUICKSTEP) – 21 + 24 = 45
The good news is, since it’s a ballroom dance, at least Peta can’t flap around like a stripper in heat. She looked downright wholesome. As for Donald, he was really nice! His natural agility clearly helped him and he moved smoothly. It wasn’t the most difficult Quickstep I’ve ever seen, but it was well done. Even if it was at a pretty basic level.
My Score: 9Jack and Anna (JIVE) – 23 + 21 = 44
What is with these crazy costumes?!? And why does Frisco look like he stepped out of the 70s? Oy.
I fear that Frisco will be lost in the middle of the pack for a while. He isn’t terrible, but he isn’t all that great either. He seems to be eschewing the technique in favor of showmanship. Sometimes that can work – but not for long. Sadly his routine was just blah. Blah with a good dose of cheese.
My Score: 6Gladys and Tristan (QUICKSTEP) – 23 + 19 = 42
TRISTAN!!!! TRISTAN!!!! I could listen to him all day long. And those tattoos!! Oh honey!!!! Oh, and he danced a lovely (albeit
very slow) Quickstep with a lovely lady. Who is she again? Just kidding. Gladys did alright. Since the pace was much slower than a regular Quickstep, it allowed her to keep up and still look good. For the oldest dancer, it was nice.
My Score: 7FYI – Tristan has a weekly blog on Entertainment Weekly (ew.com). Here’s the link:
popwatch.ew.com/2012/03/27/dancing-with-the-stars-tristan-macmanus-week-2/Gavin and Karina (JIVE) – 20 + 21 = 41
Seriously dude. LOSE. THE. HAT. It looks ridiculous. And sadly his dancing wasn’t that much better either. I mean, this was really bad. It looks to me like they had 2 days to get it all down and they made a conscious choice to focus on stupid showy things instead. Karina tried to hide as much as she could, but she can’t hide everything.
My Score: 4Melissa and Maks (QUICKSTEP) – 20 + 20 = 40
Ahh. Maks. Head #3. Or should I say Butt #3. Oooooh, shake that hiney honey. As for Melissa, I thought she looked really pretty! The top of that dress was just gorgeous on her. For the most part, she did alright. I think she held her own, even if her shoulders were yanked up near her ears the entire time. She’ll get better though. I’m sure she wants to be with Maks as long as possible. Wouldn’t you?
My Score: 7Martina and Tony (JIVE) 20 + 17 =37
Bless her heart. That’s all. Just bless her heart.
My Score: 3As if there were any doubt, I think it’s pretty clear that Martina will be sent to the “Eliminated First Club.” Godspeed and God bless.
What do you think?
