from daytime royalty daytimeroyaltyonline.com/topic/8665857/1/SOAPNet; Staying on Line SOAPNet Staying on the Air by Janet DiLauro, About.com guide, dated March 23rd: Good news for soap opera fans who get their daily fix of Days of Our Lives on SOAPnet. According to Soap Opera Digest, reports that the network would be going off the air in March to make room for Disney, Jr. were premature. "We've always viewed the launch of Disney Junior as a transition, not a flip of a switch," says a spokesperson for Disney/ABC-TV Group. "And as such SOAPnet will remain available for an undetermined period of time as additional carriage deals for Disney Junior are finalized with distributors."

Thanks Karebr. I turned the channel on today and it was still airing One Tree Hill and BH 90210. I can definitely wait for yet another kid channel.

I don't see why it can't be Disney Jr during the day (when kids are awake) and SoapNet at night (when adults want to watch something that ISN'T for the kiddies). But I guess that would make too much sense.

What I don't understand is why they are getting rid of it. I currently get Soapnet but when I checked to see if we would get the new Disney Jr channel we aren't getting it in our area.

It's because ABC/Disney owns Soapnet. They obviously aren't interested in soaps at ABC. It seems weird that the channel wouldn't just stay on the cable but switch its programming. Maybe they have to renegotiate with the various cable systems or something. We already have 24 hour Sprout and Nick Jr. I don't need a third 24 hour kids channel. Plus we have oodles of kids TV available on-demand for no additional charge.
I like DD's idea of kids shows during the day at soaps at night. Nickelodeon does that. They have little kids shows part of the day then bigger kid shows and classic sitcome in the evening.

Disney Jr is on our cable now but it's a different channel than Soapnet.
