In a recent interview with Michael Fairman, Ron Carlivati revealed that another major character will be killed off soon.
I don't know about other viewers but I have no interest in watching even more characters grieving.

Like I have to wonder if it will be victor, since he isn't seen a lot anymore which brings in alex. I really hope not.

I was also thinking it might be one of the older characters/actors who isn't able to appear as much, such as Victor or Doug.

I can’t even begin to imagine who will die next. I feel like I’m still reeling from Abigail’s death, and now we get this news. I wish that we had more romance with the use of our vet actors/actresses,and less doom and gloom.

Ugh. I wish it was no one. We don't need any more of this.
If it had to be someone, I wish it was Gwen. But I think it has to be Jake--who else would upset both Chad and Ava and leave EJ to take advantage of a family tragedy?

The twitterverse is assuming it's Jake too, but I have a different theory. I think it's Rafe who dies. All those spoilers would still work. Here's how.
Eric tries to save Nicole. Perhaps there's an explosion at Rafe's house. Nicole gets out but Rafe doesn't.
Salem is rocked by a surprising death. Rafe would be surprising.
Ava grapples with devastating news. Ava had a serious relationship with Rafe, so the news would naturally hit her hard.
EJ attempts to take advantage of a family tragedy. The "family" in this case would be the Hernandez family, and EJ could try and take back Dimera Enterprises while Gabi is grieving her brother.
Sonny consoles Chad when he suffers another loss. Chad wouldn't care a bit about Jake. But Rafe was committed to solving Abby's murder, and if he's dead too, Chad doesn't have that advocate anymore.
