Marlena isn’t sure about John going in to see Jan, but Belle says he’s dead set on it. John walks into Jan’s room. She asks what he’s doing there. He says they have unfinished business. She repeats the question. She goes to call a nurse, but John stops her and says he came to apologize. Jan tells him to let go of her, and he does. He just wants to talk. Jan tells him to make it short. John explains that he lost it when she told him that Belle was dead, and took matters into his own hands. Jan says that it wasn’t matters, but her neck. John apologizes. Jan thinks he really is. Jan concedes that she might have provoked him. John thanks her, but she says her admitting that doesn’t let him off the hook. She says if Belle presses charges, she’ll do the same to him. Belle and Marlena both agree that John shouldn’t be talking to Jan. Belle doesn’t think John would try to hurt her, but Marlena is still worried, because of how much self-control John has lost due to the aneurysm. Also, Jan has a way of getting under people’s skin. Belle says that John hasn’t had any incidents lately. Marlena has a flashback of John theorizing that he may have killed Charlie.
John says he didn’t apologize just so she wouldn’t press charges. Jan repeats her threat, but John can’t promise that. Jan says that this conversation is over. John agrees, and walks out. Belle asks Marlena if something happened. John walks out to the waiting room and tells them about Jan’s threat. Belle isn’t surprised, but is ready to make a deal. Marlena isn’t sure Jan will hold up her end of the bargain, but Belle won’t let John go to prison, and John won’t let Jan go free.
Belle doesn’t think she has a choice. John knows that Jan will be a danger to Belle and Claire if she goes free. He tells her to call Shawn, have him arrest her, and if he gets arrested too, so be it. Belle refuses and tells him it’s her decision, and that he can’t change her mind. John threatens to press false charges against Jan. Marlena intervenes and says they should take this conversation to the Pub. Neither John or Belle are willing to change their minds. Belle tells them to go ahead so she can call Shawn and get the process started. They leave. Belle goes into Jan’s room. Jan is complaining about the lack of a cocktail menu. Belle says they need to have a little chat.
Jan had a feeling she’d see Belle. Did she really think John could get out of going to jail by apologizing? Belle says John did what anyone who’s met her would have wanted to do. Jan reminds her to be nicer to the person who could make sure John’s arrested. Belle came to make a deal. If Jan doesn’t press charges against John, Belle won’t press charges against her. At the Pub, John asks if Marlena sees that he’s right. Marlena thinks that John believes he’s doing what’s best. John says that if they let Jan get away with this, it’ll empower her. Marlena asks John to look at this from Belle’s point of view. Belle will blame herself if John goes to prison. John disagrees. Marlena doesn’t know who's more stubborn. John says he is.
John wants Marlena to back him up. Marlena says that Belle won’t listen to her any more than John does. John whispers that he still thinks he may have killed Charlie, and if he did, he’d end up in jail, anyway. Back at the hospital, Jan says that Belle caving must hurt, as she knows she’d like to see her locked up. She asks if John’s okay with this. Belle says it’s not his decision, only she can press charges against Jan, and she won’t. Belle pulls some papers out of her bag and hands them to Jan. They don’t trust each other, so Belle drew up a legal agreement that they won’t press any charges against each other or John. Belle hands Jan a pen and tells her to sign it.
At the Pub, Marlena reminds John that his only real memory is of hearing the gunshot. She insists that he didn’t kill Charlie, he was in his car. John asks who did. At the hospital, Jan refuses to sign. Belle picks up the document and tells Jan that this time, she’ll be going to a real prison, not a mental institution. She also reminds her that everyone who saw John choke Jan also saw Jan taunt him and Shawn about killing Belle only seconds earlier. With that narrative, John will have an easier time getting off than Jan will. Belle threatens to call Shawn, but Jan grabs the document and signs it. After she does, Belle takes the paper back, and says she’ll send her a copy. Jan points out that Belle’s coat is missing a button. Belle wonders aloud when that happened.

I knew that button was significant. It was in Rafe's evidence bag. I think it's another red herring though.
Belle should have included a clause that says Jan is not to harm or attempt to harm any member of her family ever again, or all agreements are off.

Not sure why I found it funny when Marlena said this is not the place to talk. The pub. The pub is the place to talk.
